New Christmas Quilt-a-long

Today is the start of Hazel's Quilts  so you are just in on the beginning.  Right now it is the deciding stage of which fabrics to use. So that is what I am up to now and like Sharon at Vrooman Quilts  I will take time today to give updates on my progress. Like you I am just starting. So now I off to go find fabric.  Good way to use some of my stash. UPDATE; OK it took me a few before I could start. We have had our coldest temp so far this winter (16) and I had to take care of "the girls" and the wild birds and such. So I started looking.  Now I have a sewing room which is small and also full and knew my container of Christmas fabric was not in there so I went to the spare room where I have put a few things (just a few). Nope wasn't there so I went to the garage where I have a few tubs stacked. Again just a few.  Of course it is at the bottom of the stack in the middle behind the box of bottles  OK I finally get it out and thank goodness

Knitted Preemie Hat

I have been making hats for the boys and I was thinking maybe you would want the pattern. I had this pattern for over 10 years and before the twins coming, I would make them for Preemies in the hospital. They love to have little hats for the babies. I would wash mine first before I gave them away. So maybe you'll make some for a hospital near you. I would rate these very easy to make. Supplies; Baby Yarn and size 3  double pointed needles Directions; 1. Cast on 78 stitches, divide  on 4 needles 2. Knit 1, Purl 1  in a ribbing pattern for 2 1/4". 3. Knit rows (stockinette stitch) for 1 1/2"  Total measurement of hat is 3 3/4" 4. You will start decreasing; " K 3, K2 tog, K 3, K2 tog" for one round. Then Knit the next round.  Repeat these two rounds until there are 22 stitches left on needles. 5. Thread yarn onto a tapestry needle and draw threw all remaining stitches, pull tightly and secure. 6.  Attach a pom - pom or a ribbon bow on top

Lemoyne Star

Today I took a class on how to make a Lemoyne Star using the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star ruler by Deb Tucker of 180 Designs. And let me tell you it made making a 3 inch star a piece of cake.  I so enjoyed making these. I had been worried I was biting off too much. But I can say now I did not.   Sharon (on right) was our instructor and a very good one. I try to take classes here at Sager Creek when Sharon is teaching, she is very good at explaining, so you can  easily  understand. I don't know about you but I do so much better at learning when I am shown how.  Joan is seriously at work trimming her pieces. Here we are with our finished blocks. Joan made a 6 inch block and mine are 3 inch blocks.  Are they not cute and you are probably wonder why I am crazy to do 3". Well I was reading  Repro Quilt Lovers Blog  about an antique Lemoyne Star quilt, I just thought I had to make this one. Now when you go to her blog you will read that this

Farm Report

I have not written about any of the happenings here around the farm. During the winter months it can be slow until calving season starts. And this year has been one of those slow years  (thank goodness). After the past couple of winters we have had here in N.E. Oklahoma, "the man of the place" is so relieved. He is not trying to feed or check on cows in 2 feet of snow and ice. We are actually having above normal temp the past few weeks. As you can see the daffodils are already up and blooming. I believe this early for us. We also had our first calf a little early too. We had thought it would be more around the middle to end of February before any would be born, oops. Isn't he cute, he was born last week. "The man of the place" was out feeding some of the cows so he could tell me which ones he thought we're next to birth. You see, this is one of my jobs during the week while he is at his full-time job. Beside doing the feeding I am

It's Monday, What's Up

I have been busy this past week around the house and was able to get a top finished and start on another new project plus work on a couple of my UFO's on my list. This is the Hunter Star that I making using Deb Tucker's ruler. It is a piece of cake, no Y-seams. If you are  interested in knowing more go to  Sager Creek  Pam has links and tutorials. better than I could show.  Buddy is helping as you can tell. What is up with cats and quilts or paper. Seems like when I work with one there they are. I need to finish this today for this evenings Bible study, This is Esther's block  I have been invited to join in, a little over a week ago by Cookyblue at  stitch-a-long  in making this quilt. I had bought this book last October on the bus trip. When I found out this was the quilt they were doing this year I asked to be put on the waiting list. I got the news  a week and half ago and  I started right away to get caught up.  By the end of this month I n

Egg Recipe #6

Easy Poached Eggs  In a 12-inch straight-sided skillet, heat 2 inches water over medium until bubbles cover the bottom and sides of pan.  Crack each large egg into a separate small bowl (do not use eggs with broken yolks).  When a few bubbles have broken the surface of the water, gently pour each egg into the pan, leaving room between them. Cook eggs, undisturbed, until white is just set and yolk is still runny, 3 to 4 minutes. Use a rubber spatula to gently release eggs from the bottom of pan, if necessary. Using a slotted spoon, remove eggs from water. If using immediately, blot the bottom of the spoon on a paper towel to remove excess water before serving. Cook's Note If your egg white thins out in the pan, try swirling the water before adding the next egg. The moving water will help hold the egg's shape. You can refrigerate poached eggs for up to 3 hours, on a parchment-lined plate. To serve, heat water in skillet according

Finished and Unfinished UFO's

Over at Patchwork times I joined the 2012 UFO Challenge   that Judy has going on. Now I am new to this and did not get the jiffs of it till just recently. You make a  list 12 UFO's you plan to finish this year, (I'll put my list up here soon). I learned that a number is picked and you work on that one for the month. # 5 was picked for January and this is my #5    This is Vintage Memories (Garden) by Blackbird Designs and I failed to finish it in time. I'm one block short and the sashing/border. I plan on working on it along with this months choice (#1). Try my best to get it done.   This is February's  #1 my Hunter Star Will be 80" x 90" Now I need to also talk about what I did get finished and that is the Purple Sugar Twist It is twice the size that the pattern was, I wanted it fit on my daughter's bed. Now I need to take it to the quilter cause I want it done soon so when I go to California I will have to give to her. Then
