Hen count, now 18

In Memory of Buffy (one of my favorite pics, her brooding with another hen) I lost one of my oldest hens last night. I do not normally name my hens but I did to a couple of "the girls" and she is one of them. She was one of the best hens I have, she was gentle, smart  and such a good layer. I just wish I knew what happened. She was just fine when  I put them to bed last night but the this morning when I went to let  them out of the coop, there she was under the roost dead. Something happened. I will miss her. Now if you want some good hens, I would recommend some Buff Orpingtons. You can't go wrong with them. I now need to think about getting some of them myself. Practice run for the big day

I am doing a practice run of trying to see if I can get a PDF file on my blog for you to download if you want. This is a pattern I copied from a free crochet pattern site. It's a Hopping Good Time

yes this MONDAY, Corrie from  Quilt Taffy  will be leading the Cheer with Dots...lots and lots of dots... I am excited about that too.... Because I will be part of the hop. My day is Tuesday the 11th I am posting a link to the  schedule  I hope you will come by and see the block I'm doing. I had plans to do more than one block but because of the family emergency I had, I was not able to get done what I wanted to do. I am tweaking it still, hasn't quite turn out  like I imagine.  It's a neat pattern. And I found a little something that is a perfect giveaway. A hint, it has dots..... Till next time Kat =^..^=

Loving My Crock Pot

OK,  now you will need go get a paper sack, you will be hyperventilating for sure now. Three posts in 24 hours might be my all time record. But like I said in the last post, I was trying something new in the crock pot.  I would not say that I am one who has lived a sheltered life but you would think so. I had not heard of cooking a chicken this way but it has been around for at least 6 years. So you probably already know about making a  rotisserie style chicken in the crock pot, I'm hoping though there is at least someone out there who hasn't too. So easy and soooo good  You'll need foil and take pieces and roll into balls Place them in your crock pot, I used 8. You will place your chicken on top of those balls. You do not add any liquid. Now I seasoned the bird by rubbing it with olive oil and sprinkling on some seasoning. Use any type of seasoning you like.  Now I had read about many different settings and time lengths. one

It has been too long and I have the need. So I wanted to share a couple of new things with you, one is from that wonderfully interesting Quilt Historian Barbara Brackman . She is at it again with giving us a fascinating look into history. She has chosen a look into the Rights For The Women Vote. Here is a copy of a little intro to what she wrote in her blog, better said than I could write Women in the United States won the right to vote, women's suffrage, in 1920, a centennial anniversary we will be celebrating in seven years or so. But I thought it would be a good idea to start a memorial quilt in the early teens because the fight for that national right took so long. Egg Recipe # 27 Baked - Potato Eggs

     Baked - Potato Eggs Ingredients 2 baking potatoes 2 tablespoons butter 1/4 cup grated cheddar cheese 1/2 cup cooked sausage scramble chopped green onions 1/4 cup sour cream 4 large eggs Preparation Heat oven to 400° F. Scrub the potatoes and pierce each with the tines of a fork. Bake until fork-tender, about 45 minutes. Carefully cut each potato in half. Scoop out the insides and stir in the butter, sour cream, onions and cheese. Fold in the sausages. Spoon the mixture back into the potato halves, creating a hollow in each center. Break 1 egg into each hollow. Arrange on a baking sheet and cook 10 to 15 minutes or until set. Now I did put them under the broiler for a couple of minutes cause I wasn't sure the yolk was cooked, but next time I do not think I'll do that again, I don't think I needed to that. Also 1 potato would of been enough for "the man of the place" and I. They were good size baking potatoes.  T

Coming Home

I have been in California visiting my two daughters and the those cute little grandsons. In just 3 months they have changed so much, they smile, watch you, started cooing and just melting their grandma's heart.  So adorable. Can't wait for my next visit. I did get to help my oldest daughter get her new apartment in order and rode Bart to San Francisco. While there I played tourist, you would think that since I was born and lived in Sacramento area that I had been on a cable car but I hadn't. So that is what we did, rode one to Fisherman's Wharf.  So much fun. "The man of the place" has been caring for the chickens. And thank goodness we have had rain while I have been gone, if not I afraid my garden would be dead. I am anxious about what I'll find. This was unplanned visit so I did not start putting in my fall crop. I figured I would do that a couple of weeks ago. Glad I waited. I'll have to see about what I can still pla
