Superb Sunday

The title says it all, this weekend has been a blessing of what's to come. We have had two days of some perfect fall weather. I just want to sit out on the back porch and read, enjoy the weather. But I think instead of reading I'm going to take Ben's I spy quilt and try to finish up the binding. I've been meaning for a while now to write this post on how the boys I Spy quilts came about and was constructed. It started with Audrey over at Quilty Folks and her Quilty 365 challenge. I decided then, when I saw the challenge, that this is going to be the boys I Spy quilt. Because you see I've been collecting and thinking about how I was going to go about making that quilt and when I saw her post and challenge, I knew that was what I wanted to do. Now knowing that I had 2 quilts I was going to be making and realized it wasn't feasible for me to appliqué the circle down by hand. So I decided to use the method where you sew fusible interfacin

PLaying Catch Up

I have been so preoccupied with getting the flooring in that I haven't taken time to write the past 2 days. So here is a quick catch up  The floor is not done.  Could just leave it at that but I won't. Some of the hardwood planks are bowed so they weren't useable, and there was an unusual amount of these boards so they are checking into getting some replacements. So until then I have half of the floor in. That half does look nice. I was also working on staining the new baseboards, which there will be around 200 linear feet. Keeping me busy I was able to spend some time sewing the past couple of days.  Did finish another Farmer's Wife block and it is assembled correctly but just doesn't look right. After some thinking and studying the block I realized that after the block is sewn in, the 1/4 inch  seam allowance will make it look right. At least it I'm hoping. Did get the first Retro Air-Ship Propeller block together and now

Making Progress

OK I'm being a little optimistic here but they did get a portion of the hardwood laid.  Doesn't it look nice and it feel so nice on my bare feet. I'm getting so excited. What also excited me today was the fact that I was able to spend a good 6 hours in the sewing room. First I needed to pack a few more things but after that it was all sewing. I finished another Farmer's Wife block, paper pieced ( Fun - Fun ) and worked on another one. Before starting on those blocks I prep fabric for the next leader and ender project. Going to be making 3" nine-patches. Now I do not have a pattern in mind but did have a large collection of 1 1/2" strips from a project I was going to do a few years ago but have decided not to. Whoa-la I could take paper piecing for only so long before I had to do something else, so I went through some fat quarters that I still had in the house and picked out a few to make a Retro Air-Ship Propeller blo

Another day

Today was another day of not much progress, I worked like crazy to get the last minute stuff moved like lamps, my handwork that I have been working on in the evening and just some little stuff. Did laundry because I wasn't sure if the laundry area was going to be one of the first floors they would work on. But all that got done today was they took up the tile in the entry ways and level a hump in the kitchen floor with a big grinder/sander. Then put on sort of cement like product on it to level it out. I was able to spent time in the sewing room. Finished a Farmer's Wife block. Since I don't have much to share, thought I would share the class I attended last week. It was learning how to make a Cleopatra Fan. This is another pattern from the 1930's that has been given a new life.      At Robert Kaufman fabrics they offer a free pattern for this quilt I just love the look of this quilt and a great one for using up my exploding stash I

Sunday morning

My driveway I walk. This morning will be I expect the slowest part of my day. I've been able to take a nice walk this morning since the temperatures are just so fall like, gorgeous. The breeze feels nice and the smells,  oh it makes me so ready for Autumn.  Then the other thing I was able to take care of was taking some time out to write this.  I know any stitching that I'll do will be this evening, just like yesterday.  I can say that Blake's binding is finished and now it's on to Ben's. After writing this, it's full steam ahead I'm afraid.  The bathroom floor finally is installed. Yesterday they didn't show up till 4 o'clock and we're here until eight putting in the new flooring.  Looks good,  I will have to do some touching up the paint on the walls and work on the trim a little bit but other than that I'm very pleased with how it looks.  The walk-in closet adjacent to the bathroom i
