Day 3 Slow Sunday

Today I'll be finally getting the binding on this quilt.  http://www.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/blog/2016/07/vintage-christmas-quilt-pattern.html I had started this quilt last November, a year ago and did get the top finish but just with all the has been going on with Mom, I just folded it up and put in the closet. Then over the summer I took it out of the closet and to the quilter Had him just do an all over loopy pattern, nothing fancy Sometimes I know just what fabric I want to use for binding and other times I just don't have any idea. First thought was to go with a green to just blend in but couldn't find one that I like. I was afraid that red would be a little too over powering of a color even thou it was the color used on the pattern but now that it is on I believe it will work. But before I get sewing down the binding plan on getting some more mowing in and sewing up the pillow cases. I would like to have them don

Day 2 was a busy one

I think today was the first day this week that I hadn't gone anywhere, not even to get the mail and I was able to get a lot done around the house, in and out. Besides straightening up the house I needed to make another batch of yogurt. Did get it started a little late this morning,  I like to cook mine 10 to 12 hours, find it comes out a little thicker. I was able to also get the binding on another  Christmas quilt, but I'll have more to share tomorrow along with some pictures. Wanted to work on the pillow cases today. I had found some additional fabric to use. Still need to dig out my tub . of flannel to find a coordinate go with the Santa print. The main thing today was finally getting around to the fall clean up of the yard   I like to mow the leaves up along with the last time of cutting the grass. Always looks so neat and greener as you can tell from this picture. Besides picking up the leaves I've been told if it gets cold enough that because

There is Hope

While waiting to have lunch with "The Man of the Place" I was on  quilter blogs  site seeing what others have been up to and I came across this. It was as the blog gods were moving me. Here I was thinking how I needed to write more often and this challenge pops up. Meant to be I think. So the goal is to post something everyday and to get back in the habit again. Now I already posted today but needed to share this just in case you wanted to join in. All the details are here   on  Cheryl Sleboda blog. And since I'm posting again I might as well show what I found at JoAnn's We have Rudolph, The Grinch and a flannel with Santa. Santa was the only one they did not have in cotton but I think the flannel will be so much softer.  Enough for each boy to have 3 pillowcases. Okay again, till tomorrow

December Is Here Already

Here it is December, where did November go. I had only written twice last month, boy that is not much. It's been a lot of what I have been doing this year, Mom is doing Okay. She was able to stay out of the hospital last month which is a move in the right direction. And we had a good Thanksgining with family I haven't seen in a couple years. Now it's Christmas next. Been working some on quilting the Scandiavian Christmas but I'm nowhere done.  Do have one of the four sections done and I have followed some of what Lynnette Anderson did on her pattern but there is some of the quilting designs I will not use.  When I get to that point I'll have to shown what I mean. Today I'm off to Tulsa in search of (believe it or not) Christmas fabric that I can make pillowcases for the grandsons. I have plenty of good fabric suitable for a Christmas quilt or others things but not fun kid stuff. Need to find Rudolph and Santa. I'll have

Slow Sunday

My Sunday was far from slow, seems like lately my weekends are all about catching up on things around the house seeing how I am gone a lot during the week. I have been working hard trying to finishing quilting on Blue Rocky Road but need to put that aside again because I want to get the Scandinavian  Christmas wallhanging completed so I can display it this Christmas. Pinned basted the sandwich. Figure since I won't be handle this for too long that pinned basting will be good enough. Haven't used this PVC hoop before and it's really not bad. Working out so far I'm doing a general outline of the large appliqued right now but will do snowflakes in the open spaces and then something around the cross stitch frame. I will quilt on this like I had been, in the morning but also put in some time in the evening too. Linking up with Kathy

Time Flys

A lot has happened these past few weeks. My mom has been in and out of the hospital again and then it's follow up visits with the specialists. She is doing good but CHF  (congestive heart failure)  is a day by day challenge. For some people it is hard to change their diet and other habits that are needed when you have CHF . My mom is one of those people and for that reason is why she is dealing with it now. Makes me think about my own stubborn habits and vow to myself to do better so I can prevent future health issues. My youngest daughter was also home for two weeks and I can say with confidence I have a new quilter in the family. She picked out the fabric (with help from Pete) and pattern, cut the pieces and almost completed sewing the top together. Looking great. Myself have done very little sewing again.  Was able to put half of the borders on the Retro Air-Ship Propeller. Which meant I did not make my goal for last month.

Here Kitty, Kitty

I said I would show more of the peek from yesterday but before I do like to tell you how I decided I just had to have a few more Kitties On Facebook a couple weeks ago someone had posted this picture and it was love at first sight. I went in search of items. Instead of real pumpkin I went ahead and bought one of those fake pumpkin you can carve and little foam ones too.  Didn't find enough ribbon I liked so I made one of my own using fabric. Found some small pumpkins at dollar tree but they were not all plain, had words and stripes on some so I went and painted over that stuff to make them just plain. This white one had stripes. Instead of hot gluing on the ears I just cut slits and inserted the ears. Had animals eyes so used those instead of black thumbtacks but did have to purchase some black wire for whiskers. In the direction it said to use florist foam but didn't know that, I just stuff the pumpkin with shredded paper an
