A Little Dreaming and Knitting

After having the little dudes all to myself these past couple of weeks, Mommy arrived last night to visit and prepare them for the trip home.  So needless to say Grandma has a little time on her hands to get working on things I had started before they came a month ago. The Whole Seed Catalog is from Baker Creek Farm One is getting back to planning this years veggie garden. I have been going through the seed catalogs I have  received  in the mail, along with  a catalog I  found at  Whole Foods   from the seed company Baker Creek Farm which just happen to be the book written by the founder of that company that I am reading (slowly).  It has been a good read so far, now that is if you enjoy reading about gardening and such. Then for knitting I had made great progress on the sweaters for the boys and it looked like I was going to have them completed before they arrived but I just happen to get the flu and that put me out of commission the week before they came. And

Unplanned Leave of Absents

I had no intentions of being gone from the blogging world for this long. It's been weird cause I so enjoy writing and sharing my little world here in Oklahoma. It started with me trying to get the house in order for my daughter and the grandsons who were coming to visit the 3rd of January. They came and things changed. First they were going to be here for 6 days but that changed to 2 weeks. Boy were we excited since we hadn't seen them in months and Grandpa aka "the man of the place" hadn't in almost a year. Seeing how they live in California and only I have been able to go out there to visit this past year.  Then with a new job and finding a home to purchase, we have had the boys to ourselves while my daughter and her partner take care of it all back in California. But it has been many, many, many years since my kids were 20 months, let alone 2 at the same time. Grandma has been able to keep up with them but boy by the time they go to bed this

Merry Christmas

I realize it's been too long since I last posted and it wasn't something I plan this mini vacation but I did want to take a moment to wish  everyone the best for the holidays. So here's to a very  Merry Christmas  And I'll be writing more soon so thank you for sticking with me during this dry spell I have been in.  I will explain more in the next time I write.

New recipe to try Pear and Zucchini Soup

I have had an abundance of vegetables this years so I have been doing a lot of canning, freezing and drying of my bounty. But in addition to that I have been busy surfing the web looking for new recipes to try. Most have been very good but every now and then I've made one that is just awful no matter what I change.  This recipe I questioned but I was looking for one that I could use up some of the last of the zucchini. I've made bread, muffins, casseroles, baked it, fried it, steamed and saute. But I hadn't tried a soup that was mainly zucchini and not just the side veggie. What also peaked my interest was that it also used pears. Heaven knows I have a ton (ok just 165 lbs) of them at the moment waiting to be put up. Found this recipe at the Food Network website. I can find some really good ones at that site, one of the many I visit. Here is the page for you who can access it http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/40-a-day/pear-and-zucchini-soup-recipe/index.htm

A Week in Photos on the Farm

It has been a very busy past couple of weeks for me so I haven't been online much. The weather has been too gorgeous to be in the house but with the harvest almost completed I have had to be in some. But here are some beautiful scenes from around the farm. Hope you enjoy.

What's Up or in my lap

This month on my Get-R-Done list was to get the binding on at least one of my Christmas quilts so that is my plan for today. I decided to do the plaid scrappy one because I just love this one and looking forward to seeing it out for the holidays this year. Especially since I started this quilt almost 2 years ago. I was looking back to see where I had pictures and that's when I realize how long. It seemed like just last year that I did this quilt and posted how I went about making it here I'm a hand quilter but I now know that I'll make far more quilts than I can quilt. So when I need to have one of my favorites machine quilted, I like it to look similar to one that was hand done. I know it won't look exactly like it's hand quilted but close is good. Decided to have this one done in a pattern called a Baptist or Methodist Fan. I've quilted this pattern myself and it's one of my favorites plus I like how it looks on this quilt. Doesn&

Finally a Slow Sunday

It has been a few weeks since I can say that I am able to enjoy a little sewing. So I think I'll finish the Crazy Cat  I have all the crazy stitching done, now all needed is to sew it together. Besides a little sewing, I think I'll enjoy a little reading on the back porch and take in the beauty of fall.
