Something New I Heard

I heard the other day about this Shop Hop called Row by Row  Experience This information comes from  their website   Row by Row began in 2011 with 20 quilt shops across New York State. In 2012 the event grew to include 62 participating shops. Pennsylvania came on board in 2013 for a total of 138 shops throughout the two states. In 2014 the event is moving across the country. Over 1250 quilt shops are participating in 34 states and Ontario and planning fun for quilters everywhere. Although the quilt shops are organized by state, quilters have no borders. Travel, shop, collect patterns and add rows to your quilt from any area. For more about how it particapate check out it here Here is an example of a quilt from a prior Hop.

Little Dudes 1st Birthday Party

The main reason for coming to California was to celebrate the "little dudes" 1st birthday. It was a wonderful party and their mother's did a fantastic job in creating a fun party. The theme they pick was Construction Zone. From the cake to activities for the kids was so very creative. I wanted to share some of the clever ideas they had. My daughter took a sheet cake she purchased at Costco and added some of her own additions. She put a couple of toy Cat trucks on top and added crumbled up Oreo cookies minus the centers. Refreshments were served in toy trucks. Fruit kabobs were named Rebar. Chex mix was called Gravel Dip was Concrete  Mix and chocolate covered donuts were Truck Tires. Activities  for the kids were bubbles, trucks and these. Small sandbox with construction truck.   They took boxes and covered with plain paper and drew what looks like bricks. The kids would stack them up an...

How to make a gnat trap

Yesterday while relaxing with "the man of the place" , he was watching Band of Brothers, I was on the my laptop just looking around when I came across this idea on someones board on Pinterest.  I thought it was Sarah Roe's board but I couldn't find it this morning when I went back. I should of pinned it, so I'm sorry I can't give credit to where credit is due. It was such a simple idea I didn't think it would work but I had the few simple items needed and what could it hurt to give it a try. I keep at time my harvested fruits and veggies on the counter and I also keep scraps and trimmings to put in the compost bin outside in a container on the counter next to the sink and no matter how well covered or sealed my container is, I still get these pesty bugs in my kitchen. YUK I wish I knew how they show up ever year.    As you can barely see in this photo some of the over dozen gnats/fruit flies in the jar. What you need is  a...

Packing Again

I am packing again to go help work in my friend Pam's booth and this time we're going to Texas again. Just not as far, we'll be at the Dallas show. Shorter drive, but the weather might be an issue. Hope not. I'm packing and remember I  had decided a couple of days ago I needed to make myself a shoe bag. I have been using plastic grocery bags, nothing wrong with that but I had seen one in the book Some Kind of Wonderful.  The cutest and looked easy enough. It was.... the hardest part was finding material to use Now I can go finish packing. If you make it to the show, I would love it if you would come by the booth (Sager Creek Quilts from Siloam Springs)  and say "Howdy". Till Next time Kat =^..^=

National Corduroy Day

This day has so many recognitions attached to it 11/11/11 U.S. Veteran's Day and National Corduroy Day First and for most Thank a Veteran for their time served to our country. Then I want to show my corduroy quilt. This is a quilt that came from "the of the place" family. Not sure who made it since his mother past away and that is when we received it. There was no label or anything to say who made it. (we need to label our quilts!!!) It is so soft. I'm guessing used and washed many times. I love the simple bar pattern used. Batting is very thick, probably a Poly bat. Tied with red acrylic yarn about every 4". The back is done in flannel, again so soft. The colors are not what I would of expected to see from "the man of the place" family. You see it was a house of men except his mom. I became aware of this day from reading Deb Rowden"s Blog . I just love her blog. And that is where I saw this link. Now...

2011 Giving Thanks Challenge

It is already the 3rd day but I want to go ahead and start because I believe it doesn't matter when, we should be aware of all that is around us and be so thankful/grateful for it all. Good and bad. I am going to write my thanks on the side to read just like I do in my journal, and change it each day. That way I can keep posting and give proper attention to being grateful. If this is something you do or have thought about, why not start.  Whether you have a blog or not (just write it down). It will change how you look at life and how much happier you'll be as time goes on as you do this. I'm an example of that. I feel very blessed because of it. This will go perfect with tie one on day  that I wrote about. So if you would like to read more go here . Till next time Kat =^..^=

I just love autumn, but what about this winter

Oh Fall Time, gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling. The leaves are just now starting to turn. Just do not know what kind of color we are going to have here. Been pretty dry. So as I was taking my walk this morning and I was thinking about what this winter is going to be like. For the past two years here, winter has been so unusual, we have had a blizzard each winter and the ice has been horrid. So that made me think of all the different predictors out there. There is the  National Weather Service    which will give the latest scientific predictions. Then there is the Farmers Almanac  which also has their own, plus you can search their site and find folklore predictors also. Like the Woolly Bear , (aka woolly worm), here in North America it is said that you can predict the winter by the thickness of the band around their middle. The Woolly Bear is black on both ends with a brown or orange band in the mi...

Tales of a Retreat

I'm back from the best retreat so far I have been to. I had so much fun and some of which I can not show ( had to do with a sock monkey) due to ratings on this blog. But it was hilarious. I must of had too much fun because I do not have anything completed to show you.. I was trying to finish the Hunter Star I have been working on. But no, its still not done    There was 29 of us and the lodge we were in was wonderful. It is at Lake Fort Smith State Park in Arkansas located in part of the Boston Mountain range. This is the hallway to our rooms but you can see how nice and rustic this lodge is and the rooms were nice and very comfortable, can't say that about some of the places I have stayed at. This is a view of half of the great room where we set up our machines and stuff. Out those doors in the back was a deck where I spend a good amount of time doing piecework. I was out there working on trying to figure out another snowflak...
