Rose Prairie Quilts and Farm

Did what I said earlier and experimented with all the different ways I could find to make HST. Tried 7 different ways, some I have done before and the rest I haven't until now.  All worked out, made what I needed. As long as sewn a very close 1/4" I had no problems but we all know that doesn't always happen. I'll share a brief directions of what worked with each option I tried. I'll give links for where I found the directions that I used. That way this doesn't have to be pages long. First option was having two triangles to sew together. I have found that if they are slightly larger than suggested, I can trim down and the same goes with Option 2. Taking a 2 squares sewn together. Most instruction say to add 7/8" to the finish size to make the squares but I like to do an inch. That way I can again trim down if need to. Option 3 was making 4 at a time. Since I was gone the month of May, that put me behind a month on making my circles for the boys I spy quilts.  I was able to get done 41 of them this month (June) but still put me a little behind.  Here's a closer look and I'm not sure what my total count is because I haven't counted them in a couple months.  Seeing how I'm making two quilts I just keep on making circles knowing that I need lots and lots and lots of circles. I have this pile here of such cute novelty prints to make circles out of, which keeps my enthusiasm going. I'm not sure if I will have to keep this up until November or if I can have enough circles made before that and start my quilt tops. Now this month colors for the RSC over at so scrappy is pink or as she put that hot pink and some lime. This will be great colors for another baby quilt.  I believe I will do it in 30's reproduction prints see'n ho

Yeah isn't that the saying.... slow and steady steady and slow, that's how the turtle goes.  Well I can pretty much say that's my philosophy too. Just stick it out and keep plugging along.  So that's what I've been doing with the wool appliqué on this last block for "Words to Live By" I'm at the halfway mark on it  and today I finish pressing the pieces in place for the third-quarter of this block  and I'll work on it tonight while watching TV and  baking cookies to send to "the little dudes" tomorrow. And earlier today I worked on putting the border for this month RSC challenge and it looks good.  I was questioning whether or not to add these strips in addition to the white strip it's framed in. But that would make it a little bigger than I want. Right now it's already 46 x 33. I could also use those strips to put on the back I'm thinking something in order at  like a large log cabin block.

Yesterdays class, Metro Twist, went very well and even thou it was a small group, it was for the best.... seeing how I hadn't done a class in ages, little rusty. But from the ones who were there and we're able to sew, they made a block and learned all the tips I had.  One lady was given incorrect instructions on how to prep her fabric. But I had extra fabric and some cut out pieces that she was at least able to practice some assembling. That way when she got home she could start on hers. But with her help this much was done on a future baby quilt. On my way to another goal of having at least a dozen baby quilts to donate this year. Today was able to finish the small blocks that I ran out of fabric on,  and using the wrong side of this fabric work out perfectly. Not an  exact match but just fine. Can you figure out which five squares I used the reverse fabric? Need to add the border and all will be good with this top
