A Scarf, Trees and Sheep

The past two days have been a time of keeping busy. Thursday made it a week since the sheep have been doing their thing in the veggie patch.  Here is what it looked like the day they came. Now this is what it looks like after one week on them munching away. They have done a pretty good job so far. I'm thinking at least a few more days to maybe up to a week more. I'm thinking I need to seriously  think about getting a goat. I like goats, use to have one years ago and they make a good pet if that is what one want. Mine was like a big dog. Sweet, followed me everywhere and even would come when you called  but he like all the plants I didn't want him to eat. Will need a place to keep it in, that will take some work. Yesterday at the quilt shop it was "sit and sew". You bring whatever you wish to work on and bring your lunch. A time for sewing or something and visiting. Well I didn't take sewing this time, I took

Something Farm Related

I have written much lately about the going ons here at the farm. We have had a pretty quiet year. (KNOCK ON WOOD) Which is good and not the norm, but hey I'm loving it. My garden in June after I came back from California This is a the sweet potato bed in June. I had this year decided not to work that hard in the veggie garden. Needed a break , which meant the garden became the best weed patch on the farm. My Garden Now Can you see the tomatoes? The only few things that were and are still out there growing among the weed. This is the sweet potato bed now Tomatoes, peppers and sweet potatoes. Well I had been thinking about when it cooled off like now, that would be the time to start cleaning it up. But then a couple days ago I had read about someone who said it was getting to be that time to put her goats out in the garden to do the fall cleaning up. That's when the light went off, I need goats but I don't

Slow Sunday

I'm having a wonderful Sunday.  How about you? It started by going out to the garden to do some weeding and picking a few vegetables that had ripen.  And just a daily go around and check on how everything is doing. This is the time when I see all that still needs to be done so I plan out what I'll do next. There is always something to do. The squash that was planted on Thursday is already up.  The heat or should I say the humidity is something else today.   Wasn't able to stay out as late as I would've liked, but it was plenty long enough.  Been spenting the rest of my day sewing, working on my Curvy Log Cabin. Decided to make mine a twins size which means, needed to increase the amount of blocks from what the pattern saids.  Also decided assembly line sewing would be the way to go, doing 40 blocks at a time.  Woohoo! Then later after dinner I'll do some piecework, maybe kni

My New Year

It's my birthday today and as the years have added on, I look at my birthday more as the beginning of a new year then just a day to celebrate my birthday. So as I sit and write this I can only think back over my last year and what direction I hope to see myself in a year from now.  The start of a new year makes me excited about what I can accomplish and the experiences that will happen.  And here in the United States the majority of us have been dealing with a cold long winter, myself included.  Boy am I ready for spring and starting this years growing season. One of my excitements for this new year is to expand my garden space. I want to start my kitchen garden / potager. I just love that word, potager .   Potager Garden  Definition :   (pronunciation: puh ta zhay) a  garden that combines both edible and ornamental plants; a vegetable garden that is utilitarian in nature but designed with beauty in mind; much like an English kitchen garden, but often formal and symmet

Home Sweet Home

It is so good to be back home, except for one thing the little dudes are back in California. They are so cute and will grow so much before I get to see them again, but my daughter promise to send me lots of pictures.                   Blake                               Ben                                     "The man of the place" did a great job keeping all the plants alive, in fact he did such a good job, the weeds in the veggie patch are something else. I have been working on cleaning them up. Just see for yourself In there somewhere.are the tomatoes I planted 6 weeks ago  There they are  He also did a great job keeping "the girls" happy. He had so many eggs to deal with, he ended up selling the eggs that I usually take care of. So I need to update my numbers.   Then I finally was able to pick up my new car when I came back home. It has been a long wait. We order it back in February, and could not believe it too

So Much Asparagus, Need a Recipe

I just love asparagus!!! My asparagus is growing like crazy in the beds I had planted 9 years ago and seeing how it is over 3 years established,  I can harvest spears for 3 weeks. I have a bed that is 25' long and 2.5' wide with 20 plants/crowns. I have been harvesting the spears for a week now and in this first week I have harvested 5.5 lbs. So as you can see I have a bunch, a big bunch to do something with. Yesterday on our local TV channel they had a great soup recipe that sounded wonderful. We tried it tonight and  "the man of the place"  loved it, even thou it was healthy. It was very good. But I had more asparagus than what the soup called for so I froze the rest.  I used the spears to freeze and the stalks for the soup. To freeze them cut the ends off and leave about 5- 6" spear tips. Cut the stalks into 2" pieces. Need to blanch the spears for 1 - 2 minutes and then put in ice water. Dry and freeze  in freezer bags, jars for freezing or

What's Up, Monday

Boy with the weather turning out to be just a perfect spring day, I will be outside most of the time today. But I do need to work on at least the block for tonight's Bible Study. This is what I have so far (minus last times block) my Sister's in Scriptures quilt.    And then I still have up My Little Birdie Stitches.   This is what I was able to do this past week. I finished the one on the left top, completed the January (snowman) and have most of April done.  Just a little more. But I am nowhere going to this UFO challenge done in time. But for now I need to get out into the garden and try to do some catch up out there. I should of had some of this planting done a couple of weeks ago. I just hope that having an early spring doesn't mean we are going to have an early summer. That will not work with planting some of my spring veggies on the end of the planting season.

Some of This and That

It has been a couple of days since I last post and it is not because I could not think of anything but because I have been busy doing a little of this and that. So bear with me and I will just be somewhat general in giving you some updates of my doings. Do not want to bore you. But where do I start, let's see Monday I was able to finish another snowman block. I have 2 block left and then need to assemble. Oh ya and all those snowflakes. That evening I did crochet 2 more but I'll wait to show you those when I have more. And being able to buy them by the bag at Hobby Lobby is a no, they do not have them this year. I guess I'm just going to have to keep crocheting. I also made some Red Pepper Jelly from chili peppers I grew this year. I had 5 plants of various kinds and I thought I had pick some really hot ones but I guess not because my jelly just has enough kick to it to know it's chili but not enough to make you want to pull your tongue out. I'
