It's October, my Favorite Month

Yes it's true, October is my favorite month. And it is for many reasons. Here in the northern hemisphere it's when Autumn comes to show her beauty. The smells, the temperatures are cooler, the color of the light from the sun (just breathtaking), the change in color of the foliage, harvesting of gardens and orchards and the whole mindset of preparing the farm, the house, pantry and myself for winter. But best of all is "the Man of the Place" and I's anniversary.  Truly  October is my favorite month. Now that I have that said and out of my system it time to get back to business.  First of all I would like to present my  Get-R-Done list for October I had not had a list since July.  August and September whiz by with little or no sewing happening. And let me tell you I am sure missing it, but with all that still needs to be done around here before the cold sets in I am making my list of doable goals. So here goes; 1. Finish my daughter's quilt

Missed a Week

I can't believe last week slipped by me and I did not update my weekly goal. Well two weeks ago I had the task of going through my cookbooks and thinning them out. I figure about a third of them are going to go into a yard sale. Before                                                   After And these are the ones that are going to sell. Now for what I planned on working on. I started this list last week with the hope of getting all this done by today but I had high hopes "again"! The is my list 1. Fix hose with Gorilla tape   done and didn't work 2. Replant Swiss Chard (need to wait till Aug) 3. Lay soaker hoses 4. Fix the leaks in the a couple of soaker hoses 5. Pull cauliflower plants  done 6. Harvest cabbage 7. Tie and stake tomatoes   done 8. Fix support for  cucumbers 9. Mulch sweet potatoes 10. Weed blueberries and bean  beds  partially done 11. Clean out last 2 beds for fall crops   done 12. Try a natural grass

Seeds storage

It has been a while since I last shared what my weekly goal is. Seeing how I was gone off and on the past two months, which seemed to just mess up my routine (doesn't take much). I've been so busy trying to get caught up on chores around the farm my weekly goal would of been a page long. Now that I'm getting closer to where I need to be with the chores, I started thinking about projects that I want to do and not ones that needed to be done. This is one job I have been meaning to get to but I'd  get busy with planting and tending to the garden and I would tell myself I will do the later. I've been keeping my seed in baggies inside a plastic container that I keep in the freezer. It is a good way to store your seeds. They will last longer that way and I have some seeds from  1999. So don't you think it's about time I go through them. I have been using them all whether the seeds were for this year or 1999. It's like an experiment, s

Let's Talk Goals

I can take care of two tasks at one time. I need to review my Get-R-Dones and  weekly goal. Lets get to the bad news first, I again did not complete my list if 4 from last month. It's not to say I didn't try. 1.  I did work on the 30's Row quilt and all I have left is the row I am going to change to house and then the border. So I am very close to done but NOT. 2. Did not go near the Sisters in Scriptures. I think I will put that one away and try again  later this year . Still can not seem to get motivated on this one. 3. Christmas String did get worked on but not to the point it is done. I have a few more sashings to do and then sew on the two additional rows I felt it needed. Again close to done but NOT, 4.  I did work on "Some Kind of Wonderful", I did complete that goal even though the top is not done. That wasn't my goal, just do some work on it.   Yea one done. (1 out of 4) April's 4 1.  Is to have Laura's Qui

It's Yarn Along Time

Boy this week has gone by so quickly, hard to believe it's Weds. I just want to say that the calf we have been nursing back to health is back out with it's Mom. I so hope with the milking we have done that she has enough left and will continue for the calf. She has been away from her Mom for 3 days. Now for what I'm knitting on is a matter of choice seeing how my goal for last week was to go through my stash and make an inventory of what I have and than stored back organize. And in the process of doing that I found projects I started and forgot about so now I have many to do. Clockwise; Top left 1 slipper, a green shawl, baby blue preemie hat, Prayer Shawl, and 1 sock. Which one will I'll start first.... Don't know yet. Did finish the socks and love the pattern. It will be one of the first ones I do after I finish the UFO's. I want to take time to thank everyone who left a comment last week on helping me figure out how to organize

Weekly Goal

Well my goal for the past week was to get the cupboard next to my kitchen sink cleaned out of the cookbooks, vitamins and misc. and put in there more practical, usable items. So I decided that I would put in there mixing bowls and measuring cups and some storage containers. All of those items where located in lower cabinets and I found it be a " pain in the you know what " getting to. Besides they are items I use daily in cooking so it only made since to me. It did leave me another task to do and that is to go through my cookbooks and decide which ones I'll keep. But that is not what I want this week's goal to be. I want to find all the yarn I have stashed away and various spots around the house and put them all together and take inventory of what I have. I want to do this because I know I have a bunch and like my fabric I need to start using it up. Especially before I get anymore.

Weekly Goal

Here it is week 11 already, can you believe that over 1/5th of the year has past. Just goes too quickly. My parents would and do say still now that after they turned fifty, time has just flew by. I think it starts earlier than that. Last week goal of getting my garden planted is done, at least with what needed to be done now or I have. I am going to write more on this later this week with pictures.  (as you can tell I love to use pictures)    So this week goal is to clean out this cabinet next to my sink. It's cluttered, has the wrong stuff in and I can put items in there I use more often and would just make more sense. Poor use of space.     As you can see I have my cookbooks and vitamins in there. Makeover is so needed. This year I have been focusing on purging stuff I don't use or bought with the thoughts "WHAT WAS I THINKING" This is one of those spots.

Weekly Goal

I have not made a post on my weekly goal for a few weeks, it wasn't that I haven't had one for myself, it's just that with the boys coming for a visit and then the show last week I had not written much. My goals for this next week is  1. Finish one of my Git-R-Done's   Sisters in Scriptures 2. Start working on last years taxes 3. Start spring planting  Keeping this short, seeing how I have no last weeks to show. I  could leave it with a picture of the "little dudes"

Weekly Goal

I meant to get this posted yesterday but I ended up sewing most of day on Easy Street and then what time I wasn't sewing I had get to the quilt shop to drop off the quilts for the boys to be done, that way I can have them ready when they get here next week. I am getting so excited, it has been three months since I've seen the  "little dudes". Before and what a mess. I finished the food pantry and it looks good.  I mounted the lights and it helps even though they're not as bright as I would like. Also installed the pull out shelf. Now I want to redo my kitchen cabinets with pull out shelves (someday). So here is the before and after pics. Before                                          After Love this Now for week 3 goal, I decided instead of trying to clean something else out I really need to get out the seed catalogs I've been receiving and  go through them, decide on what seeds I want to try new this year and which ones I ne

Weekly Goal

Well week 2 goal  has been eagerly worked on but not completed the way I want it to be. I was able to get a good start on it. I had started and then my youngest daughter came home Thursday and stayed until yesterday. That is the room she stays in when she comes home, so you can see why I needed it to get clean out. Plus my other daughter and her family is coming the first of February and I'll need that room for the "little dudes"  Here is the product of my hard work Before                                                                               After Before                                                                   After  There are these boxes I need to go through,   and magazines I need to purge, here on the floor and up on top of this bookcase. I hope to do that in the next week and definitely before my daughter comes. Now week 3 goal, it's to do the pantry that I only touch on a few months ago.    It needs a ma
