Blog plus Vlog

We are half way through 2020 and personally I hope the second half is better than the first but right now in the United States and here in Oklahoma it's not. I'm remaining to stay home, no eating out or any indoor crowds and wearing my mask every time I go out.  The good thing about spending more time home I have to say is I've gotten my creative mojo back this past month.  And also has given me time to think about how I can blog more and improve what I'm trying to share. So I'm going to be adding videos here on the blog that I will also post on my new YouTube channel. I want to be able to show more of what goes on here whether it's a project I'm working on, the garden, cooking or just daily life. Knowing that writing is not my best asset, maybe videos will help. It will be at the bottom, so if all works right just click on the video and it should play for you. My channel is called Rose Prairie Farm I dropped the quilts because I didn't want it to be con

Busy...Busy

It's been a couple days since I've written and boy have I been busy around here. Mom had her follow up appointment after her first treatment yesterday and all looks good and she's having no side effects due to the treatment. I've been busy in the morning working around the yard trying to get the flowerbeds, potted plants and such in order. Last night "the man of the place" and I cut out what I call weed trees. It's amazing each year how many of these little tree seedlings come up in my flowerbeds. This bed is in really poor shape and the next one to work on. Beside major weeds there are quite a few unwanted trees. Yesterday since I wasn't home during the broadcast of Mr Comey testifying before the Senate, I had recorded it all. So yesterday afternoon while resting after getting back from Mom's appt.  I worked on a new crocheting project watching what I recorded. Have been working on baby blankets but I decided that I

Debut of floors

Been busy this past week putting furniture and some items back in the house.  With that said I still do not have it all in place but enough where I can give a good idea of what was before and what is now. My house was built in 1982 and had all original carpet and vinyl.  carpet was in ever room except kitchen and back bathroom, my bathroom did have carpet which was eliminated. Carpet was brown and the vinyl was a dark tan with a darker pattern which made the house dark. My goal was to lighten it up without going white.  So here are before and after pics I think I was able to get a brighter look in the kitchen. Turned out so much better than I thought, I was really worried this tile would be too big and not look good together but it does. No more carpet ...... YEAH!!!!! Got the tile look but the warmth of the vinyl. Don't we love our hexagons  I can not say enough on how much I like this carpet. It's so soft, clean and br

Half Square Triangles

Did what I said earlier and experimented with all the different ways I could find to make HST. Tried 7 different ways, some I have done before and the rest I haven't until now.  All worked out, made what I needed. As long as sewn a very close 1/4" I had no problems but we all know that doesn't always happen. I'll share a brief directions of what worked with each option I tried. I'll give links for where I found the directions that I used. That way this doesn't have to be pages long. First option was having two triangles to sew together. I have found that if they are slightly larger than suggested, I can trim down and the same goes with Option 2. Taking a 2 squares sewn together. Most instruction say to add 7/8" to the finish size to make the squares but I like to do an inch. That way I can again trim down if need to. Option 3 was making 4 at a time. Found a video by Jenny Doan at Missouri Star Quilt.  on YouTub

A love for IKEA

Well no Friday Finish ... I didn't finish the top like I was hoping to do. I do have all the blocks now completed ready to assemble Here where I live in northeast Oklahoma the closest IKEA to me is in Dallas Texas. And that is approximately a 6 hour drive from here. Being so far I have to admit I have never just gone to Dallas to go to IKEA. But when I drive to California, I make a point of going to the IKEA near my daughters house.  Now my interior design is not considered modern, I like the Arts and Crafts style of the early1900s. But I always fine lots of goodies when I do go to IKEA.  I found some neat things to use in the sewing room.  And some utensils to use in the kitchen. Here are some pictures of what I found and came home with All for the sewing room Kitchen Cool box for newspapers Runner for side board The white containers under the bed, love them... cause they hold some much and fi
