Showing posts with the label quilt blocks

Another good day

I had a Eye doctor appointment this morning so I was unable to work out in the vegetable garden at all today.  Oh bummer - I sure miss that heat and humidity. By the time I got home it was already afternoon and so I decided that I was just going to work and some sewing with some of my household chores. It worked out really well... I had another good day. I finished the piece blocks that I needed to do for that lap quilt that I have on my wall.  Now I need to cut out the filling blocks and start assembling  Hooray!!!  I finished my appliqué my block. Thanks for the encouragement Chooky Also Mama asked me how I made my sauerkraut, well here is the link to the post I wrote a couple years back on how I make my sauerkraut.  I hope this helps anyone who might be interested

Finally Building a House

I know I was suppost to start the first of the year and build one a day. At first I thought I would do it like Jeanneke and cut out the pieces and just sew together. Copied her pattern and then life happens as usual and I did not get to it right away. By the time I got around to it, I decided I was going to paper piece instead. By then she had removed the foundation pattern. I knew I had read on another blog about  having the pattern plus some. Well that too was gone by the time I finally found out who. So my friend Liz (who has kept up and has two rows completed the last time I seen hers) helped me figure it out using EQ7 on making my own pattern. Not that it was hard, its just I'm still new at drafting and it wasn't coming to me.  I do not paper piece much  :-p  So here it is my first house. Working out the technique but I'll have it down soon and hopefully will be producing like crazy. I have some catching up, as usual, to do. I won't be doing much the

I finished take 2 #2

I was able to work on something of my own today and that was the second set of it takes two. Now I don't know about anyone else but I had some issues with a couple of blocks. I thought I had read somewhere else about the same thing but when I went looking for it I could not find it.  It took me all day because I had to deal with trying to find someone who would come out here to work on our hot water heater. It went out Friday and "the man of the place" could not get it working. I was told by a couple of places that they didn't come this far out here. Finally found someone who would but not until tomorrow. I am really needed a shower in a bad way. A sponge bath only go so far if you ask me. "The man of the place " actually takes a cold shower. I'm a sissy and just can't do it. I finish one of the grandson's hats. I have this preemie hat pattern and it will be perfect. Chances they will be early and little so they will need ones of

Its done

Well I finished the appliqueing and putting the blocks together, YEA I live out in the country and at the mercy of our local telephone company providing our internet service and at times it sucks, right now my speed is 26 mbps. Suppose to be 56 - 65 mbps. Taking a long time to get things done so I'm making this post a short one. Till next time Kat =^..^=

Purple Haze

That is what I have been seeing these past couple of days. I've been working on the Purple Sugar Twist Quilt  I made mine bigger (of course) so it takes 90 blocks compared to the one offered in the pattern (36) I can say that I am finished with that part. It wasn't a hard block to make and it went quickly. It only took 2.5" strips cut to 3 different lenths.  Had to sew a background 2.5" square to the ends of each color piece in the block and then would sew an additional square to the end like so.   Then take that piece and sew it to the other color strip, so on and so on until all strips are sewn together. Each block used 2 different fabrics. I used 20 different purples, plus the background.  As you can see there is only six strips involved in each block.  Looks like this when completed. Trim, but need to take care and leave a 1/4" from each point. The block was suppose to be 6 1/4" x 9 1/4" but mi

Things never go as planned

Before Do you ever plan on doing something and only get to do a part of it, well that is how today went. I really tried to stay on task but somehow I find myself doing something else. So I get off to a slow start because I write my post this morning and than I figure, oh I'll just check on some of the others I follow and before I know it I have been on the computer for over an hour. OK, I can just get to sewing right after I eat something, hadn't had anything yet and it's close to 11:00 o'clock. I eat lunch. Now you see I have had this conditions since I was a child and that is after I eat lunch I get very sleeping and can find myself napping before I know it. Guess what, I did. Now it's 1:00 o'clock and I still have not sewn a stitch, so finally I am in there sewing. But I had to stop a couple of hours later because I had to run to the post office, pharmacy, feed store and then the grocery store. Get back home and realize I hadn't feed

Antique quilts

I was at a quilt show in Pryor, Oklahoma this past weekend and they had a few antique quilts on displayed. I just can not pass them without drooling. My eye and heart is with the old quilts and I can remember more about the these few than any of the others there with the exception of one or two I was familiar with. I was asked by a family member if I could locate the name for this quilt I found out that this pattern is called Hazel Valley Cross Roads and was printed in the Kansas City Star on October 10, 1934. The few lines with the pattern said  "A 12 year-old girl quilt fan, Freda Napier, sent this pretty pattern, which she calls Hazel Valley Crossroads, for her home town in Arkansas. Thank you, Freda." Isn't that just the sweetest sentiments. Then there was this quit which was being used by one of the vendor's there as a table cover. I just love the simpleness of this design. Now I did not find a name for this one.  And this quilt is an au

Finially, fingers crossed

Now I just love having the Internet and all but I am having troubles with the server or something and I am so frustrated I could spit nails. I have been trying to post this since last night. So I am making it quick just in case I lose my signal again. I was not able to get all I hoped to but I did pretty well. I was able to finish adding the circles and bottom leaves (?) but did not get the last 2 birds on. Now I can start stitching those down. I was able to finish the yellow circles and glue baste them on. Now I am ready to stitch this block.   And I did finish the snowman block. The cutest. My daughters have seen me work on this and they all have put in their requests, 3 daughters and one quilt, what is a mother suppose to do. I ran out of time and I did not get the pattern drawn (?) for my Vintage Garden quilt. Maybe this weekend. Today our stitch group meets so I'll get busy on what I have prepared. Fingers crossed, that this goes out to y'all. Till next time Kat =^.

A Day of Firsts

Do you remember what it was like as a child and seeing or doing something for the first time. How exciting it could be. I think sometimes as adults we have become numb or to busy to look at things that way But today I had my eyes open to those feelings. Here are some firsts I had happen today. In the garden and in the sewing room. The first ripe tomatoes out of the garden. It's been a long time wait. The kid in me is so excited I could pee my pants, but the adult in me waited until I made to the bathroom. As you can see there is more. OK one more So red And then I finished my first block to Scandinavian Christmas. I just can't seem make them fast enough for my liking. The impatient child in me now. Just love this design Now here are a few more firsts out of the garden. First dug potatoes Then I picked a couple of the eggplants, green peppers and unfortunately okra that I did not know was there. It's just a little too big to fry, maybe I'll

Purple Quilt Progress

For Friday Night Sew In I worked on the purple sugar twist quilt. I made 26 blocks and was in the process of 18 more when I ran out of the light lavender fabric. I had asked for some to be order. So now I just have to wait for the order to come. I have 25 made before this and I figures I will need 88 to make a queen size. Just a few more. Then last week I also made another snowman block. this one is really cute. If you interested in making this Snowman quilt it is available through Sager Creek Quilts Till next time Kat =^..^=

Quilt Blocks

I wanted to share a little of what I have been up to. I have been going in so many directions lately all I seem to get done are just blocks for BOM. I have another snowman block completed. This is an easy one to do. I can't wait till I have it all completed. I do need to crochet some snowflakes.   I haven't done that in ages. Then I made a block for a friend who will going back home to Australia . I have been so blessed to have met her. So a group of us each made her a block for a friendship/memory quilt. It was not your traditional style quilt. We each design our blocks and the only thing in common was to use red, white and blue . I did a chicken. It represents the "the girls". she is holding the American flag or something that is to resemble one. Funky little chick. I'll miss you Raquel. Then I had these coasters I wanted to make. They are so Doggone cute.   I found them at Sager Creek   I want to get the Cats next. I have s

30's Club

Today at 30's we had these wonderful cinnamon roll cupcakes OH SO GOOD We always have a show and tell of some kind during the meeting. This time Debbi C. brought in these pieces that were made by her grandmother and great-grandmother. Time period would be the 30's -40's. This is what makes going so worth it The neatest embroider dish towels Too sweet for a potholder She had 32 of these autographed blocks. Many of the blocks they know who were named, family members.  But there are some that they do not know. Seeing fabric from 30's and the variety, there were no two blocks that use the same fabric. Till next time Kat =^..^=

another block done

I just finished  this block    The snowman quilt is a pattern that Marilyn McSpadden of Kansas designed. I think it is one of the cutest snowman patterns out there. Right now it is being offered as a BOM at Sager Creek Quilts and Yarn works   I know that it is still available.                             The block to the right is another quilt I have started that was offered  as McCall's pattern. It is also in a book called Fancy to Frugal. I just fell in love with this pattern  I did stay with black for the points and centers. Something about the striking contrast I just had to do. Right now I only have two of the sixteen done. But they do not take too long to do. This has been a good project for using up some of my 30's fabric This block I just finished this block this evening. It too was offered as a BOM in 2009 at the Rabbit Lairs in Rogers Ark.  Kay Harmon picked the fabric and color choices.Kathleen Myers did an overdye to  the fabric. The pattern
