Slow Sunday

I'm having a wonderful Sunday.
 How about you?
It started by going out to the garden to do some weeding and picking a few vegetables that had ripen. 

And just a daily go around and check on how everything is doing.
This is the time when I see all that still needs to be done so I plan out what I'll do next. There is always something to do.

The squash that was planted on Thursday is already up. 

The heat or should I say the humidity is something else today. 

Wasn't able to stay out as late as I would've liked, but it was plenty long enough. 

Been spenting the rest of my day sewing, working on my Curvy Log Cabin.

Decided to make mine a twins size which means, needed to increase the amount of blocks from what the pattern saids. 

Also decided assembly line sewing would be the way to go, doing 40 blocks at a time. 

Then later after dinner I'll do some piecework, maybe knitting just to add variety to my day.

Oh My

Tell me it's not true

I saw this on Facebook so I had to do the math. It's not correct. There 26 weeks till Christmas and according to the site Your Christmas Countdown,
thats 187 days.
Just shows you that you can't believe everything that is posted. Or was that part of the meaning to this.

Scary part is that half the year till Chrsitmas has past. So we have 6 months to get our presents made.

Yarn Along 6-18-2014

I have done very little knitting this week that I believe if I was to show you a picture from now compared to last week you couldn't see a difference.
So instead here are some stitch markers that I had made a few weeks back.
These are some beads I picked up at Hobby Lobby that were on sale.

So I purchase rings also from the jewelery dept. 
The bead ring has a slit that I could open and then close up after attaching it to the larger ring.

They are very pretty, don't you think.

Crochet some flowers on rings.

Then while at Hobby Lobby I found these wool balls in the clearance section. Did the same as before attached a ring to each ball. 
Turned out cute.

What I like about the ones I made is the fact they are small and do not get in the way of my knitting..

I have a request, I am looking for sites to visit besides Ravelry or Very Pink Knits which I do now. What are your favorite site?

What's Up 6-16-2014

Hey there,
 I have some progress to show in the quilting department and it has been awhile since I say that.
I'm so excited to be able to show you what I've done.
Did get one Nested Churn Dash block made that I told you about last week  here 

Just love this pattern for some reason.
Been wanting to make a quilt using the gray and yellow fabric I've been collecting for sometime now and this pattern is perfect for it.

Do have quite the collection.
It's an easy pattern and love the size of the blocks, 24 inches

But that's not all, I'm on a roll or you could say I found my Mojo.

I took a class Saturday to help get me motivated.
It was one using Creative Grids Curvy Log Cabin trimming tool.
Makes making this block a breeze.

Was able to get 20 blocks done Sat.
The pattern has you making 16 more but that is for a quilt 60" x 60" but I would like mine to be at least a twin size. Which means I'll probably need 3x's that many. Will be a pretty quilt and a great way to use up some of my stash.

Something New I Heard

I heard the other day about this Shop Hop called Row by Row Experience
This information comes from their website 
Row by Row began in 2011 with 20 quilt shops across New York State. In 2012 the event grew to include 62 participating shops. Pennsylvania came on board in 2013 for a total of 138 shops throughout the two states. In 2014 the event is moving across the country. Over 1250 quilt shops are participating in 34 states and Ontario and planning fun for quilters everywhere. Although the quilt shops are organized by state, quilters have no borders. Travel, shop, collect patterns and add rows to your quilt from any area.

I little Knitting and reading

I had written on Monday that I haven't been doing much sewing but I have been doing some knitting and so I wanted to share my latest project that I've been working on. 

It's my Nangou shawl by Melanie Berg found here on Ravelry
I'm using a bamboo - silk combination yarn, I just love how it drapes
I'm going to continue making this until I run out of the blue and then that will be the size it will be, not really sure how big it will be.
It is very easy pattern and it seems to be going by quickly.
 I wanted to share this book I found at the quilt show this past weekend. When I first saw this book, I thought this is interesting, and then once I opened it and looked inside I just had to have it. 

It's not that I will make anything from this book but I just thought it was such a novelty. It's not spinning fur into yarn like I have seen on other websites or books but it's more in the order of needle-punch 

If you ever see this book, pick it up and look inside, it's rather a quaint little book

And for what I'm listening to/reading is this, some of Dr. Joel Fuhrman books on nutrition. Seeing how that I'm changing my diet per se, I'm following a lot of what he has written about. Its more in the style of the way I used to eat many years ago. It's not a totally vegetarian diet, its what he calls a nutritarian diet, a nutrient dense diet. It's mainly a plant-based diet with limited animal based foods. You limit  or eliminate processed foods, white flour, refined sugars and any other refined grains. You're trying to eat as much whole foods as you can and limit your salt and oil also. You get your oil through nuts, seeds and avocados things of that sort. It's a gradual process.  No one can do it all at once, you have to take it in steps.  Add something new to get accustomed to it then add something else or remove something.  Over the past few months I've been doing that and I've come to enjoy foods that are more prepared in their simple state then more processed, heavily laden with cheese or meat type of foods. I've really been enjoying the change in my food choices. Add to that, I feel a lot healthier.

What's Up 6-9-14

I have been in a sewing slump for months now. I did finally get the "little dudes" minky blankets made before I left to spend time with them last month. Oh ya I did make a pair of pillowcases for them too. Mainly I've been knitting, cooking or gardening.
But this past weekend I helped work at Sager Creek's booth at the Tulsa Quilt Show and I was hoping it would get my creative juices flowing.
By george, I think its worked. I was reading others blog yesterday to see what others are up to, which I haven't done much of either and today I made another pair of pillowcases I started over a month ago.
I know it isn't much but it is a start and we have to start somewhere. You know baby steps. But it's like riding a bike, you don't forget you just have get back on and pedal.

The "little dudes" are into Cars, Planes and Thomas the train. They'll love these.

Next is I want to try the Nested Churn Dash QAL over at quiltjane's

Why I don't  know, it's not like I have nothing started already but something about the pattern and then there is the challenge for me to stay focused on this.
I have been doing very well on staying focused (my one word) but sewing has not been part of what I have given myself to focus on. So since I've done well with changing my diet and working on the garden I believe I can add one more.

Well that what I can finally show for this time and I'll see what a week brings.
