August Finishes

Here we are again, another month that seem to just fly by. Its amazing considering we all seem to suffer one way or another from the weather. Here in NE Oklahoma it was extreme heat and humidity. A good thing because of it I was inside a lot, which meant I was keeping myself busy with projects. Was pretty successful too. This is going to be a picture heavy post. I'll start with the one that I had been working on the past few months the Spring Fling Shop Hop from 2015. It turned out so pretty, and next its off to the quilter.   I love how the shops had fabric made just for them, naming the towns and the state. I have also slowly been going through boxes in the garage. and in one of them I found the top I made back in 2012. It was one of Bonnie Hunters mystery quilts, Easy Street.  I didn't have it quilted at the time because I just thought it wasn't complete so I put it away. Well I saw it and realized what was missing, a boarder. It's the only one of her mysteries I hav

Oh so close

You know that saying "close but no cigar." Well that is what I can say about my red string quilt. The strip sets I had made wasn't  enough,  even thou I did end with parts left.  But they were not the  6" strips which I am 12 inches short of completing one X block. Just need  2 sections like this to make the block.   That's one block short of finishing all of the blocks for the top.  Now  I don't have all the blocks up  in the picture showing my design, it's due to the limited space on the  wall.  It's 2 rows short. My plan for today is to assemble all the blocks after the additional strip set for the piece needed to finish the X block. I think I'll gonna go head and make a larger strip set to cut that down for the border. Before sewing the rows together, I need to position the X's a certain way. Looking at whats up now I can tell they are not. It needs to look like chain links

What's Up

Right now what's up on my design wall is a blank wall. I had taken everything down yesterday so I could put up my collections of rainbow scrap color blocks to see what it looks like with all the various colors I have already prepared. These are what I have of the spool blocks. Over the weekend we had a series of heavy thunderstorms with a lightning which blew out my modem and router. Today I went down to the telephone company to get a new modem, because that's who provides the modem. Then I have to go to the store and buy a new router. Then I will be up again But for now I am writing this through my blogger app on my iPhone. Thank Goodness for that. So before I went for my walk, I went to let the chickens out of the house and see how everything is. "The man of the place" had over the weekend put up some wire where the chicken wire was starting to deteriorate . Had to fill in the hole again from the groundhog.  In the proces

Scrappy Saturaday

Was able to get these two blocks done to add to the spool blocks. Need to do a little more but until then I will go ahead and share this at So Scrappy Today I was able to spend time with my youngest daughter. We met in Tulsa and went to the Gilcrease Museum to see the showing of  California Impressionism: Selections from The Irvine Museum Granville Redmond California Oaks oil on canvas, 1910 30" x 42" This was one of my favorites,  but before I left I started the process of making Lime Pickles. I had not known of Lime Pickles till I moved to Oklahoma. They are very easy to make and are pretty much fool proof. Start with Mrs. Wages Pickling Lime, soak your cucumber slices in the lime water all day or night Then you rinse, soak in ice water for a few hours and then the vinergar/spice brine overnight and then I'll can them tomorrow. I finished this portion that was in the hoop and now on to another part.

Dandelion Jelly

This was one of the things I have done this past month while I was MFB (missing from blogging) Seeing how I was loaded with dandelions in my yard I figured I ought to find a way to use them beside eating the leaves. I looked for recipes and came across this one , thought it would be a tasty one. It said to pick 2 quarts of flowers but I came up a little short by a couple of cups but I went ahead with the recipe as thou I did have enough. I did make my tea different from how this recipe said. I steeped my clean flower petals in 4 cups of boiled water in a glass jar for overnight and then strained it through a coffee filter. Also I did not have the   Lavender Sugar With Vanilla but I did have sugar that had been stored with a vanilla bean in the container with it. So I figured that was a close substitute. This was the first time I have made Dandelion jelly and it will be one I will try to make every spring. I like the light, honey like sweetness of this jelly.

Sun dried tomatoes

This year I've had a really good crop of tomatoes. I've been able to can, freeze and make salsa but I thought I would try to make some dried tomatoes in the oven. Back in California where the humidity being so low and it seemed like it was sunny all the time and it was easy to do sun dried tomatoes outside. But here in Oklahoma with all the humidity, I didn't see how that it would be  possible to do it outside so I got on the Internet and look around to see what it would take to do it an alternative way, seeing how I don't  have a dehydrator.   Found various information and from that I just kind of put it all together and this is how I did my sun dried tomatoes.  I took the small romas that I had and cut them in half and seeded them out. Then I placed them on a wire rack on top of my cookie sheet. A lot of them said that you could just use a cookie sheet that was not aluminum or you could put parchment paper down. But there is one that had done it
