What's Up 04.11.16

Mainly what's up is on the table. Forgot I told my mom that I would contribute some pillowcases to be donated to the children cancer center in Tulsa. So this morning it's catch up time. Have 3 fabric combination that will be nice. Have more but time is an issue today. Children prints is something I have a lot of lately.  Using the sausage roll method, which is the easiest and quickest way to make pillowcases that I know of. This Youtube video is the method I am using. Gives a nice clean seam, shows how to do a french seam so there are no raw seam edge inside the pillowcase. There are other videos out there with and without french seams but this is one out of the few I watch that was clear to see and understand. So here are my 3 cases ready to be dropped off at Mom's later today. Did have a few completed border blocks for the Scandinavian Christmas wallhanging up on the design wall. How to Make a Cool Car Trash Bag

This is my trash bag but it was not an original ideal, I saw it over at  Meridian Road   awhile back and realize that this was something I needed bad. You see I am notorious for throwing my trash into the back and would forget about it. Now that I have my new car and not the farm truck, I wanted to get out of that habit. What made this bag stand out for me was the fact that you can seal the bag shut so trash won't fall out and will keep the smell in and not in your car. Doesn't it look sharp, now the one I saw was made from an old money bag, I do not have an old money bag but I thought this ticking fabric would look good. Very easy to make and I'll share how I did mine, you can also see how she made her at her blog too. Start with a large Zip Lock bag and cut out 2 pieces of fabric about a 1/4 - 1/2 inch longer around the sides and about 1 1/2 inch at the top.  Sew the side seams, I had a fold on the bottom so I didn't need to sew the bottom but i

Antiquing Canning Jars

I had seen this process done on Pinterest and knew I had to try it because I have so many canning jars.  I thought this would be a great way to use them so they are not just sitting on a shelf.  I had read the story "The Christmas Jar" which is about the gift of change that had been collected in a pickle jar. So I thought to paint the jars and give them to the ladies in our 30's group with the challenge to collect their change and find someone who could use the gift at Christmas.  These jars are my finished product. Very few ingredients are needed:  Mod Podge - 1 Tablespoon and food coloring - several drops, depends on the color.  I used a 2-to-1 ratio of blue - green and 1 teaspoon of water.   Now the first set of instructions I found said to pour the mixture into the jar and coat the inside.   After it dried this is how they turned out.  As you can see,  not good - they are unevenly colored with streaks. I had to try again, but this time I p

Making a Yo-Yo Egg

This is an egg I made by covering Styrofoam eggs with Yo-Yo's.  They are so cute. You make a lot of Yo-Yo's and I did used the Clover Yo-Yo maker. I really like using it because to me it is easier and faster. So when making a lot of these it helps. Then you attach them with straight pins. I did not try a hot glue gun, because I could not remember if you can use hot glue on Styrofoam.  Overlap the Yo-Yo's  Now you can add small buttons when pinning the Yo- Yo's on like this one. This is how all of these are done. I love eggs, you think. Kat

Poor Me, boo-whoo

Look how green and pretty it is starting to look, the temp. is 70 and calm, plus it is sunny. And what am I doing. Sitting in the house, feeling sorry for myself cause I would rather be outside in the garden then here near the phone because I do not want to miss a call from the satellite repair person. They were schedule between 8-12 this morning but here it is 1:15 and I'm still waiting. Did call twice to let me know they are running behind. Your saying, that's to be expected. So I'm having a little pity party. Well I've cleaned, and cleaned and just tried of cleaning so I thought I would look up a few things on the computer. And lo and behold I came across a couple of sites on how to make a bag from an old T-shirt. You might of have seen this before but it's new to me. I like it. I had cleaned out part of my closet and had come across some old T-shirts. Perfect. This is what I made in less than 20 minutes.  This is from a child size small. This i
