What's Up or in my lap

This month on my Get-R-Done list was to get the binding on at least one of my Christmas quilts so that is my plan for today. I decided to do the plaid scrappy one because I just love this one and looking forward to seeing it out for the holidays this year. Especially since I started this quilt almost 2 years ago. I was looking back to see where I had pictures and that's when I realize how long. It seemed like just last year that I did this quilt and posted how I went about making it here I'm a hand quilter but I now know that I'll make far more quilts than I can quilt. So when I need to have one of my favorites machine quilted, I like it to look similar to one that was hand done. I know it won't look exactly like it's hand quilted but close is good. Decided to have this one done in a pattern called a Baptist or Methodist Fan. I've quilted this pattern myself and it's one of my favorites plus I like how it looks on this quilt. Doesn&

It's October, my Favorite Month

Yes it's true, October is my favorite month. And it is for many reasons. Here in the northern hemisphere it's when Autumn comes to show her beauty. The smells, the temperatures are cooler, the color of the light from the sun (just breathtaking), the change in color of the foliage, harvesting of gardens and orchards and the whole mindset of preparing the farm, the house, pantry and myself for winter. But best of all is "the Man of the Place" and I's anniversary.  Truly  October is my favorite month. Now that I have that said and out of my system it time to get back to business.  First of all I would like to present my  Get-R-Done list for October I had not had a list since July.  August and September whiz by with little or no sewing happening. And let me tell you I am sure missing it, but with all that still needs to be done around here before the cold sets in I am making my list of doable goals. So here goes; 1. Finish my daughter's quilt

What's Up Monday & Get-R-Done Update

July 1st already, half the year has past. Where I live we are having below average temps, 82 today. That is almost unheard of, normally it's in the 90's and humid. Loving it and means I'm spending a lot of time  outside and not that much in the sewing room. I know it will not last and I'll be back to the sewing room when it's too hot to be out. What's up on the wall is one of my RSC13 . I'm a couple months behind and this is Aprils color orange. Still have blue,   yellow and this months teal  to do. I know what I want to make, it's just doing it. This months (April) baby quilt I made fabric from scraps and then on a piece of fusible interfacing I drew a circle on the plain side. I put the fusible side next to right side of the fabric and stitch on the  circle I drew. Trim the circle and made an opening in the fusible to turn it inside out Try to push out the edge as much as you can to make the circle round. I have mi

Finally May's Get-R-Done

I have given it great thought and this is what I came up with  First of all, finishing the Christmas String quilt is top on the list and heck, it's almost done. Next is I would love to be able to finish quilting on my Daughter's quilt, bind and give it to her.  Now that one might be a little ambitious but I think it could be possible. So on the list it go.  Then there is some embroidery that is needed on the tree wallhanging And 4th and last work on the Pea Ridge Lily blocks I prepared.

How I did last month

How did I do?  Well I guess it depends on what I'm considering, the garden, weightloss and health, quilt projects, etc. My garden has had such a setback in planting and such with this unusual spring we are having here. Normally the last frost date is around the 10th of April but here we have had a couple of nights that were frosted and they are predicting the possibility of another freeze Friday morning. Needless to say I have hesitated from planting the tomatoes and other warm loving veggies.  My heel is finally starting to get better but only because I have been limiting myself from being on my feet which means I haven't been back to my daily walks. So  I pretty much stay the same last month. Now for my Get-R-Done's for last month. 1. 30's Row Quilt - done    2. Christmas String Quilt -    have all the pieces made and I'm now assembling them - almost done   3. My daughter's Quilt -  top done, basted and I'm now quilting by hand.

It's Done

The second Get-R-Dones that I had my list for this month is finished. I made the border a little wider because I plan on it making it scalloped. I thought the row of houses turned out so cute.  So now I'm on to #3 on my list. I had made this  quilt top  awhile back and have the steps and pattern  here   on  the tutorial page up at the top.  So what I'm working on is making it larger.

Let's Talk Goals

I can take care of two tasks at one time. I need to review my Get-R-Dones and  weekly goal. Lets get to the bad news first, I again did not complete my list if 4 from last month. It's not to say I didn't try. 1.  I did work on the 30's Row quilt and all I have left is the row I am going to change to house and then the border. So I am very close to done but NOT. 2. Did not go near the Sisters in Scriptures. I think I will put that one away and try again  later this year . Still can not seem to get motivated on this one. 3. Christmas String did get worked on but not to the point it is done. I have a few more sashings to do and then sew on the two additional rows I felt it needed. Again close to done but NOT, 4.  I did work on "Some Kind of Wonderful", I did complete that goal even though the top is not done. That wasn't my goal, just do some work on it.   Yea one done. (1 out of 4) April's 4 1.  Is to have Laura's Qui

What's up Monday

What' Up on my design wall is a baby quilt using up some of my scraps. As you can see it did not make a dent in my scrap pile and that is after making the mistake of making too many units in the beginning. I have enough here on my table to make another one. So when I'm done I'll have two little girl quilts. I was able to finish some on my Some Kind of Wonderful last night but have so much more to do on it. You can see more of this quilt and other projects from the book here.  When I get more of mine done I need to post my progress there. I have the first two rows of applique done and most of the filler blocks done but it's on Git-R-Done list for this month as a work on project.  Will see what I can get done, seeing how  I'm not moving very much at the moment. I think I can say I lost the battle of not getting the "Man of the Place" bug.  I have too much to do to be sick. Do you ever feel like that too?  One of the

End of the Month Tally

Here is the end of the months tally and I wish I could say it was more than I'm going to share. But to make it look like I did a lot I'm putting together my color RSC13, NewFO and confessions of my Git-R-Done for this month and what I'll make next list ,  For the color this month which was purple I use 2 1/2 strips that I had left over.  So I have 2 child quilts to donate. I decided that is what I was going to make each month with this challenge.  This is how far I have gotten with last months color pink. It will look like this one that I found online. My NewFO for this month is the Granny Square Quilt from the class last week. As you can see it will be two separate quilts. 30's reproductions 1800's reproductions                 Now confession time of the four on my list for Git-R-Done,  not one got finished. I really don't know what has happened. So guess what. I'm just going to roll over the list
