2018 Planning

2018 is almost here and I have been giving it a lot of thought to what has happened this year and what next year will bring. I love new beginnings, whether its mornings, a baby, a new project or a new year. Love the fact its like a start over in some way. Love to plan and make lists...am a list maker. But with all that's happened this year I'm feeling uncertain to what I can reasonably plan for this coming year. Have to say it's takes the fun out it. But I will not let it stop me, just has taken me a little longer to figure out what my goal is for 2018 as far as my quilting go. I have some personal ones that I'll keep to myself but do want to share these and join in on the party for the first time and this may keep me focus. 2018 Planning Party at quiltingJETgirl First of all I will keep it down to a minimum for me.  1. I'll again track my fabric stash usage, in and out but I am going to start tracking time sewing and quilting. This is main

Japanese Knot Bags

This morning I quilted some more on the Scandinavian Christmas wall hanging.  I finished another quarter section and I'm onto the last.  Now once I get that last section done, I think I will go ahead and do only the hearts on the border. That way I could go ahead, put a binding on and hang it for our company next week This afternoon I worked on the Japanese knot bags or you could call them reversible bags. In fact the website I got the pattern off of,  was a Martha Stewart website  and I'll put a link here for you and there's also a YouTube video that you can watch from when she had it on her daytime program So far I have three completed and one left to go.   From what you can see I have the lining and the outside of the bag left and it's just time now putting them together. Also as you can tell is they are all made with cat prints. We are all cats lovers here in this family

Day 26

Here it is the 26th day for the challenge and I can say I've done well, have posted 20 times. Best month out of the whole year in total times. Today I spent time finishing up on the decoration, here most are done with Christmas but mine is still to come. Do have a few more gifts I'm making. These will become what are known as Japanese Knot bags  Making one for each girl and one for myself. Over the past few weeks I've been working on the little hats for  http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/Affiliate/Little-Hats-Big-Hearts_UCM_487734_SubHomePage.jsp# This is a link for all the information needed I have 23 ready to be sent off in the mail to Tulsa. The Man of the Place like to feed the deer corn and he puts it out by the driveway out in front of the house. That way he can watch the ones that come up, which are many. Not only do the deer like the, just about all the critters around here do and today a large flock
MERRY CHRISTMAS Wishing you the best one yet.

Christmas Eve

Santa is coming tonight, you been good? I tried and that is all one can do. Somehow I deleted my last post about Trisha Yearwood's Angel Biscuits so I'll go ahead and give the link to the recipe instead of adding it here. Angel Biscuits Since this Christmas weekend it's just "The Man of The Place" and I, he asked if I would go ahead and make what he would like to eat all weekend. Went ahead and cooked him a ham with all the sides he likes and the one side I just love. For years I would buy Red Cabbage in a jar at the store because I did not have the recipe my great-grandma had that she would make for our Christmas Eve dinner. I researched various recipes and here is the one I have found that is my favorite so far. READY IN: 1hr 10mins SERVES: 8 INGREDIENTS  1 medium red cabbage 1⁄2 cup vinegar 1⁄4 cup water 1⁄4 cup sugar 1⁄2 teaspoon salt 1⁄2 cup red currant jelly  (Hard to find and I read grape jelly is a good

More Bowls

Even thou I was busy all day I really don't have much to show for it. I helped the "Man of the Place" put some more firewood up on the back porch, then he helped me get the Christmas decorations out of the attic. Was hoping to get some of them out but I got busy looking for a bag pattern and then putting away some of the stuff I had put temporary in the spare bedroom. Need to start cleaning for my daughter and the grandsons. They'll be here in 2 weeks. So this afternoon I did get around to finishing up the other bowl holders to make a set of 4.  These will go to my oldest daughter. Like I said I didn't have much to show  oh yeah I saw this on the cover of this magazine  and think it is a pretty quilt There are so many pretty quilts out there and so little time that you have to pick and choose carefully.

The Attack of the Mealybugs

I thought we were done with doctor or tests until the new year but oh no. Mom had a PET scan today so ended up being again an all day thing so no sewing for today. I decided when I got home I would take care of the pest I found on one of my newest houseplants. Last month I took a fun workshop on making up a container planting. In the planter is a beautiful orchid, very small ponytail plant, variegated ivy and a prayer plant. Well I noticed that the prayer plant had spots of white on the stems, leaves and any little cranny. Foliar Mealybugs are what the white fuzzy spots are.  Bad but not too bad. When your plant is not to infested, you can deal with killing the pest with rubbing alcohol. Take Q-Tips soaked in alcohol and touch each of the white cottony spot. Nasty little things, they can suck the life out of your plant. I need to follow up with an insecticidal spray like Neem oil, but I'm not sure if I still have som

Diamond Hexes

Day 17 already and in two weeks it will be 2018 I'm going to turn 60 next year, that just don't seem real. What is 60 suppose to feel like because I sure don't feel like I'm 59. Oh heck, I always said I refuse to grow up....a kid at heart. I said I would show more of Mom's Mosaic Diamond Quilt  I have 19 now done and a boot load more. I have found the fabric to use for the background hexagons. It's one of the Grunges, a mix of grey's with hints of beige's. A really good match I think. Looks good doesn't it. Then today before we went to take some firewood to my parents, I started on one of the gifts I want to give to the girls. It is bowl holders to use in the microwave. I have been wanting to make something like this for a least a couple years now. I am tired of burning my fingers getting something out of the microwave or trying to do it with pot holders (that doesn't work well).  I
