Bad Cows

The " man of the place" decided that since our pasture are being grazed down and he is trying to stretch as much out of them as he can before we have to start putting out hay. He figure that for one last time  he was going to let them graze our house yard. Now this is not the first time and I had put up with his idea of   mowing . (past post)   That time it was just a few of the older cows, they are slow and not so curious. But this time it was the first time mothers (2yrs old) Like last time I can put up with the spots of natural fertilizer, that goes away with rain and snow. I will barely tolerate them pruning my monkey grass. It was looking good and would of all winter, but I tell myself it will grow back. Then there is that phrase "they are worse than kids", well that is what young heifers are. Kids at least most of the time listen and are not 1200 lbs. of stubbornness. This one found the broom on the porch and started eating i...

Lawn Care Country Style

These past few days "the man of the place" has been taking care of the end of the year lawn care, having the lawn mowed; the bovine way This is our new young Angus bull, isn't he handsome. Now I would not reccomend this way for just anyone, you need to have a couple of well natured bovines, fenced in yard and patience, they are not fast. And they just don't mow the yard but also fertilized at the same time. Now I can not say that they do as well as the lawn mower, but it is environmentally friendly. I would imagine that the carbon footprint on this would be very low. The only thing now to be done is the "the man of the place" needs to figure out how is going to spread the fertilizer around. Till next time Kat =^..^= Go here  to check out more.

What a Beautiful Morning

It was such a nice morning, temps in the low 60's with a nice breeze reminded me so much of fall. So it was a good morning for my walk and this is a picture of my driveway outside of my house yard. My driveway is a 1/4  mile to the gate where the blacktop is. Right now we have the cows in this pasture which mean I have to watch out for landmines. Yesterday one of the cows had a calf so I was able to get up close to it and take a picture but mom was not to keen on me getting too close Isn't he (yes another bull calf) cute. As you tell from this picture the 6 inches, yes 6 inches of rain we received has worked wonders on greening up the pasture. And the cows are really enjoying having green grass to eat again Happy cows I tell ya, laying around, chewing their cuds. Then I go a little ways past them to get really to my favorite part of my walk, here in this area it is cooler and just smells wonderful every time. Sometimes I smell the sycamore trees, or it could be a woodsy, ...

Growing along

Mother and son I thought I should give an update on the calf we had to pull a couple of weeks ago. You would never know by looking at him by how well he is going and yes it's a bull calf. I failed to mention that when he was born. I guess it was because of all that went on that morning, it just slipped my mind. So I took a couple of pictures last weekend. They were still the corral area at that time but now they are out in the pasture. He just runs and runs. Kicking up his hoofs. They are so cute and fun to watch. Especially when you get a whole bunch of them together. They'll run and chase. They'll butt heads. Really it reminds me of watching puppies play in a way. They just don't bite and growl. Handsome little devil (for a red bull) Till next time Kat =^..^=

oh boy what a morning

I remember asking my oldest girls if they would move to Oklahoma. They said, "Oh no Mom, its too rural and not exciting."  Well they needed to be here this morning. Alan was getting ready to go to work. So he went to check a heifer that was in the corral because she was really close to calving. We like to have them close by just in case there are problems. I went to let the chickens out of the hen house. I was done and went to where Alan was. He said she is in the process of having her calf. So we got our cups of coffee and a pair of binocular and sat in his truck a way back by the chicken coop. We had been watching for a while and things were going slow. So I was checking out the chickens when all  of a sudden there is a  SKUNK in with the chickens. That is not a good thing. At the same time, Alan tells me we are going to have to help the heifer. So he goes to get what was needed and I go to take care of getting rid of the SKUNK . Now plea...
