Showing posts with the label sewing room

July

Well, July came and went. It was a whirlwind of a month.  It has  been somewhat busy. We had family from Utah and California come to visit this month so I spent a lot of time sitting around playing cards, talking, going out to eat, you get the picture.  I was able to get a lot of knitting done, because I can do that while visiting, but not as much sewing as I was hoping.  The one big thing that I did accomplish for the month of July was getting the studio finished. The last thing done this month was to make curtains to go on the front of my ironing station and my cutting table. Very simple just did a casing to put tension rod through and now I have a beautiful studio. I just want to go in there and create all day. I’ve been able to do some of that. But right now I’m just gonna focus on telling you a little bit and post a video so you get a real good view of what my studio looks like.   Video is at the end of post I’ll just give you a brief description of some of the tasks that I went

Time to de-clutter the Studio

It's long over due, that is to de-clutter and organize my studio. My room is a spare bedroom, 12 x 10 and I have 2 very nice windows which give me plenty of natural light. Very lucky in so many ways. Sure have come a long way from sewing on the coffee table back in the 70's. In the room I have all my sewing stuff except the fabric. I hate to admit it but I have way too much fabric and that is something I need to go through..... but that's for another time. Right now I'll focus just on the studio. In the room I also have my fiber/yarn and other needlework tools. Well I can explain more as I go along. I will start with some pictures I took when I decided to go with this endeavor. So here are the before picture This cubical has in the boxes a variety of crafting stuff. From sewing to natural dyeing materials. There are also patterns and a whole bunch of worthless stuff. This will all be gone through. Along with the cart next to it. Over to the right of the cubical is the n

Whats Up 6.5.17

It has been over a month since I've done a "what's up" on the design wall. I have up the flag quilt and in the process of sewing the rows together. I had been searching more on who the designer of this quilt is. Last week I tried a way to get a hold of her and today I tried another method. Hope to hear back so I can give information on a pattern maybe. But the best part of the day was this morning Bob of Bob's Shop delivered the Pressing Station I order while attending The Springdale Quilt Show in April. I am so pleased with it. Fits perfect on the wall I had been setting up the ironing board with a outlet for my iron and a base to sit the iron on. Besides the pressing surface it has shelving with some containers.  Which I have plans on what to use them for. It took me no time to start adding stuff. Great place for the odd shaped rulers and trimmers. The binder has the Deb Tucker trimmer inside. The Go cu

I love Sundays

Sundays have always been a day of rest since I was a kid but not all Sundays can we rest.  Today was one of rest and it was nice to just take time to think and reflect. I can do that when I do mindless sewing and that is what I was doing today. In the Words to Live By quilt I did what the directions said but for some reason I did not have enough black and tan HST. Fixed up another 80 HST, sewn and trimmed them today. Now I'm ready to finish the boarders now. While doing that I was looking around the room and thinking about what I wanted to put back in here and where. Notice the shelf with a little fabric on it that hadn't been wrapped around the boards I have. Took a little time to do about half of the stack.  I wrap only pieces that are larger than 1/2 yard and up to 4 yds. If they are 4 yards or more I use the boards they use at quilts shops. They will give them to you if ask, otherwise they just trash them.  Wh

A Day in my Happy Place

I had full intentions of sewing part of the day... seeing how the prediction was right for rain all day. But I starting to clean and couldn't stop, ended up in my sewing room and was able to organized quite a bit. Boy, sure need to organize the fabric It started out by cleaning up around the floor area. Then I went over to the quilting books and decided to go through them, purged a few. Decided next to clean off my sewing area and water my plants. It looks really nice and clean now. But from the next picture you can see all the stuff hidden underneath the table, which I did not get to. ON THE LIST Had the floss to return back to the main storage from embroidering the RG blocks Seeing how cleaning out and organizing my sewing room was one of my goals for the year, I figured I better put a little more effort into it. Need to organize my scraps. I have enough bins to put them in now... I just need to label which size go where
