Spring is Here

Spring is diffidently in the air (pollen)

My Christmas cactus has becomed an Easter cactus.

 So very delicate and beautiful.

Not only are the cactus blooming but the Redbuds and Dogwoods are also in full bloom right now. I hope to this weekend be able to take a walk around our property to see some of the places where we have a lot of dogwoods growing. The weather is supposed to be very favorable for that and should be a spectacular show of flowers.
If I do I'll post pictures.

This past week I have been able to finish the washcloths that I had started weaving a few of weeks ago

After they had came off the loom I needed to sew the ends of each washcloth to make sure it didn't ravel when the cardboard separator was removed.

Next was to trim the raw edges of yarn once the cardboard was removed.

Here is a close up of what one side finished looks like. I turned over the edge and stitched it down and the other side is next to be finish.

This is not the first time I have used this yarn to make washcloths. I had made a few last year and been using them a lot in the kitchen. I do not believe the first batch were as large as the second batch that I have made. I know there will be some shrinkage due to the fact that I'm using 100% cotton yarn but I also believe by the looks of it, they weren't as big.

I ended up with 7 new washcloths

Still weaving on the kitchen dish towels, I'm on the last one and really do love the look on the pattern.

I think my next project will be a rag rug.
I've been wanting to weave a rug and this would be a good one to start with. Beside I'll get to use up some more of the fabric in the garage.

On Instagram Amy of Amy's creative side is doing a One Thing Challenge.

The premise of her challenge is to accomplish one task a week. It's not to complete a whole quilt from start to finish in a week but to break it down into doable parts so by the time a few weeks have passed, maybe you have completed a quilt or another project that you have been working on or wanted to start.
Heaven knows I need this type of incentive. I have not been pushing myself creatively other than small projects that I could take along with me to the doctors office or a little weaving in the evening to relax my mind.
So if this is something that interest you go over to Instagram and look at Amy's creative side page to get more information on how to go about participating.

Till next time,

  1. Weaving is certainly a creative talent. Your finished washcloths look lovely. It is good to stop by and say hello. Enjoy the Easter weekend. HUGS

Countdown to Autumn. 18 days

After some thought I came up with a general "get to" list for a pre - Autumn preparation. I had mentioned a couple in the last post. I will keep those and have added a few more. I needed to remind myself that a lot of my ideas are a little premature hance the pre autumn and will be better done next month. So here is what I came up with... Deep cleaning is still on Planning activity for next month Decorating inside and out.   Making a fall outfit, sewing and knitting Find some new recipes to try Make a pair of fall or Halloween socks I will be focus on journaling with Autumn being the present subject.  Making sourdough bread again This one I have already started, Watching a cozy, feel good show. So "the man of the place" and are rewatching PBS All Creatures Great and Small. In a matter of a couple days we have watched season 1. I figure we need to refrain ourselves and keep it down to a couple episodes a night. Today I put a binding on another quilt from the pile. ...

How to Make a Portable Design Wall

I had wanted to get a portable design wall to take to retreats but did not want to pay the price. Looked at various pins on pinterest and took ideas from more than one to come up with my verison. It worked out great and only cost a fraction of the price. The PVC pipes, joints and 2 yards of felt cost under $22.00 My design wall is 4' x 4' which stands approximately 5 1/5' tall. For this size need 2 - 10ft length of 3/4" PVC pipe for the frame and 4ft of 1" PVC pipe for the feet Cut the 3/4" PVC into 4 - 4' section                                                                                       2 - 1' section              Cut the 1"  PVC into 4 - 1' section        ...
