Wonderful Weekend

It was a nice relaxing weekend for a change and boy did I so enjoyed myself.
I had intended to write this last night but I was just enjoying how relaxed I was. Enjoyed watching season 3 of Outlander and working on my Advent socks

AND

 a new project
started a shawl for one of my daughter for Christmas. It's a crochet pattern by Sandra Paul of Cherry Heart, pattern is called Linden Bee

So pretty....

Also was able to get to some sewing in weekend for the first time in quite awhile.

In fact you can see by my collection of plants that found a home on the sewing table that I haven't been doing much sewing lately.

They really do like it there, west facing window. But they were moved so I could dust off the machine do some sewing.

I have been collecting projects and finally was able to get a few completed.

I finished up weaving on a few washcloths, so they needed to be hemmed.

Nothing fancy here, As you can see they are not all the same size and I wasn't keeping track of length seeing how they are for me and just using up scraps of cotton yarn.

That was one WIP done

then next, I needed to do was wind a bobbin for the dish towels I'm weaving on.

I'm trying boat shuttles and like using them a lot. It's a little tricky at times seeing how I'm using them on a ridged heddle loom and not a floor loom. A ridged heddle  doesn't have a base board (?) that the shuttle can slide upon. So I need to pay close attention but so much fun sliding them across.

Sunday I spent the afternoon making a project bag for the socks I'm knitting.

Turned out perfect, if I say so myself.

Stands up so nicely

Prefect size for socks

Love it.
stuff will not fall out now.

And a couple of weeks ago I ordered some needle cozy off a TIENenMIEP Designs, a seller on esty to use while knitting socks. DP needles have a tendency of getting loose and can be an issue at times and this is a great solution.

The needles slip inside and then you just snap it shut.
Ingenious......
Don't know how long they been around but it's a new thing to me

Well that's all for now

  2. The colors in your advent socks are YUMMY!!! That scarf/shawl is really pretty; it should be fun to work on. I like working on pretty things. You've got a great collection of violets and succulents growing on! I do not have a green thumb! What a clever invention -- that needle cozy! I've never seen one before, but it's perfect! Have a fun week! :)

  4. I took a weaving class way back in college and LOVED it! The only problem is math and I are NOT good friends, and figuring out the yardage needed for the warp or was it weft... was beyond my abilities. If someone else would do that for me I'd love to have a loom and play with shuttles all day! The shawl you made is gorgeous!

Countdown to Autumn. 18 days

After some thought I came up with a general "get to" list for a pre - Autumn preparation. I had mentioned a couple in the last post. I will keep those and have added a few more. I needed to remind myself that a lot of my ideas are a little premature hance the pre autumn and will be better done next month. So here is what I came up with... Deep cleaning is still on Planning activity for next month Decorating inside and out.   Making a fall outfit, sewing and knitting Find some new recipes to try Make a pair of fall or Halloween socks I will be focus on journaling with Autumn being the present subject.  Making sourdough bread again This one I have already started, Watching a cozy, feel good show. So "the man of the place" and are rewatching PBS All Creatures Great and Small. In a matter of a couple days we have watched season 1. I figure we need to refrain ourselves and keep it down to a couple episodes a night. Today I put a binding on another quilt from the pile. ...

How to Make a Portable Design Wall

I had wanted to get a portable design wall to take to retreats but did not want to pay the price. Looked at various pins on pinterest and took ideas from more than one to come up with my verison. It worked out great and only cost a fraction of the price. The PVC pipes, joints and 2 yards of felt cost under $22.00 My design wall is 4' x 4' which stands approximately 5 1/5' tall. For this size need 2 - 10ft length of 3/4" PVC pipe for the frame and 4ft of 1" PVC pipe for the feet Cut the 3/4" PVC into 4 - 4' section                                                                                       2 - 1' section              Cut the 1"  PVC into 4 - 1' section        ...
