It's for the Birds

WHOO - WHOO
It's my day for 'It's for the birds" blog hop.
Before I start I need to give thanks to our cheerleaders

and

If it wasn't for all their hard work this hop would not of happen.
Thank you ladies

Now for what you stopped by for.
I have a lot of bird related patterns, especially ones that are chickens

This quilt I made last year from a pattern in Quiltmania.
Then here are a few more patterns I had and thought about doing.

But time wasn't on my side for a big project.
You see I'm going to see "the little dudes" next week, it's their first birthday.
Blake and Ben, my "little dudes"

Can't believe it's been a year already.

OK back to topic here.
A couple of years ago while at the Dallas Quilt show I purchased this pincushion.

I thought it was interesting but what I really wanted was the pattern. It came from a shop in Texas, which name I don't remember, who made it up but did not make a pattern to sell.  So I bought one for the pattern. I also checked the internet to see if I could find the pattern but no luck.
Since I'm going to see my daughter I thought I would make her a pincushion.

I changed it a little but it's still the same pattern using hexagons.

Hexi's have been quite the rage for awhile now and what a cute way to use them.
It wasn't hard but I did have to get out the seam ripper a few times to get it right.

It took 6 hexagons and then some triangle pieces

I stuffed it with walnut shells and poly stuffing

I did add a little beak made of fabric to mine instead of a button.

Not bad for my first try. I would of given more instructions but I am busy right now with getting the garden in and getting ready for my trip to California so I'll try to get to it when I get back next month.

I would like to share all the others "whoo"
are participating today.

Thank you for stopping by

How cute is that owl made of hexies! I wondered if you had to take it all apart to figure out how to make it but it looks like you managed quite well. Well done especially with the change in the beak!

  40. I would have had no idea the owl is made from hexies. I adore the chicks from Quiltmania. I have that particular issue SOMEWHERE just for that pattern. Thanks for participating in the hop and all the eye candy. I wish I could make an owl pin cushion like that. It is adorable. Too bad about finding the source for the pattern. I like the idea it is hexies. Have a wonderful time with the grands. I'm going to NM to be with my two grandboys there later this month. Yes, the last year has FLOWN by. Thanks for participating in the hop and all the creativity. I hope to see you in more soon.
