What’s up 2022

I had intended to write before this but a lot have happened since then.

First thing was Christmas Eve we had a water leak in the kitchen and couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. So we were not able to fix it and needed to just turn the water off to the house.  We have a well and creek so we had water for the toilet and drinking. Being Christmas there was no way we were going to find a plumber let alone be able to pay what someone would want.

Finally Tuesday, 4 days later we had water inside again.

We were also supposed to have 2 of my daughter’s come last weekend for a late Christmas but decided to reschedule for a couple months from now. I went through emotional up and down for a week.  Have to say the house looks good.  Thank goodness I didn’t do a lot of holiday baking before hand.

“The Man of the Place” birthday was the 31st. We never go out because he doesn’t like to on his birthday.

The first day of the new year I was able to spend time with fellow bloggers from all parts of the world.  Haven’t been able to zoom with them in over a year.  There was many reasons it didn’t happen but it all worked out this time

Here is our host Chookyblue showing us her Lucy blocks

At one time there was 24 of us on.

I worked on the Peace in Pieces

I believe I’m about a third of the way done. Had so much pleasure being with other stitchers and I was able to sit in for about 6 hours, they were still going strong when I left.

I’m going to make myself a goal to help me get my mojo back for quilting.

I’m going to do the One Month Challenge at Elm Street Quilts.

And this quilt is my first challenge. The goal is to just get the top finished. I’ll be sending it off to be quilted because it’s going to be a gift and I would like it to look nice.

I start a new planner, worked out the last month I ran out of pages to go another month. This one is a lime green book. Going for a cheerful color.

While planning today I put down in writing what I’ve been thinking about goals. Since I was diagnosed with cancer thinking about having a future would be a trigger of fearful thoughts and getting past having these fears is something I’ve been working on.

Making plans, especially long turn ones is very challenging so I am going to do short term ones. I’m going for weekly and up to a month.

So for this weeks to do

1. Work at least 15 minutes a day sewing on the top

2. I have a couple of knitting projects I should be able to finish this week

3. Start a gnome for the 2022 gnome KAL

4 Try a new recipe

5. Clean up my house plants

I believe this is a doable, baby step, goals. It’s not just that it’s tasks to be completed but the fact it’s a planned commitment. Something I have not been doing outside of dealing with treating cancer. It’s been 10 months since my first CT scan showing no cancer and I’m trying hard to be back to a normal.

I have to keep to working at it.

Okay that’s enough rambling.

Thank you for visiting and it means the world to me.

Linking up with design wall Monday

Till next time

  1. It has been a long time since I used a planner. I am in the go with the flow phase right now as there seems to be very little that I can control. I like how you have organized yours. I like Peace in Pieces. A group of ladies and I have weekly stitching group sessions that I sometimes manage to attend. It is fun and nice to have the interactions. I may join the Elm Street Quilts challenge. It is good to have a goal. Best wishes for continued good health in the new year.

  3. Hi Kat, so nice to read your blog. I'm glad you've had a block of time cancer-free and pray that continues! Your Peace in Pieces is really pretty. Your planning is great - reminds me that my daughter gave me a little planner I need to use. I'm sorry your holiday get-together didn't work out, but it's nice you were finally able to zoom with your blogging friends.
Thank you for linking up with To Do Tuesday!

Welcome friends to share a thought, I enjoy reading them and will try my best to reply back by email most of the time. But if you do not hear back it's because you are a no-reply blogger.

How to Make a Portable Design Wall

I had wanted to get a portable design wall to take to retreats but did not want to pay the price. Looked at various pins on pinterest and took ideas from more than one to come up with my verison. It worked out great and only cost a fraction of the price. The PVC pipes, joints and 2 yards of felt cost under $22.00 My design wall is 4' x 4' which stands approximately 5 1/5' tall. For this size need 2 - 10ft length of 3/4" PVC pipe for the frame and 4ft of 1" PVC pipe for the feet Cut the 3/4" PVC into 4 - 4' section                                                                                       2 - 1' section              Cut the 1"  PVC into 4 - 1' section          The joints you'll need will be 2 - 3/4" elbows 2 - 3/4" T's 2 - 3/4" to 1" T (this will be the base of the Feet) 4 - 1" elbow Also need pipe cutters (this cost me almost as much

Yarn Along 2/20/13 Spoon Pin Doily

It's snowing here and I know some of you are tired of snow but here we will take the moisture any way we can get it. Plus it just gives me a reason to stay in and work on some of my projects. In this picture I'm not sure if you can make it out but in the background there are some wild turkeys that hang around the house sometime, just  chilling This project I'm working on is Spool Pin Doilies.   I had never heard of them before until Bonnie Hunter had mentioned it on her blog . She a had a viewer send her one for her sewing machine along with a pattern. I did not like the pattern but loved the idea so I decided to make up my own version. I wanted a more simple, smaller and fuller doily. So I tried different thread sizes to get one that I like. (From left to right) I tried sock yarn, which I'll redo because I think I like that look. Heavy weight crochet thread, nope too big Bamboo yarn, I like it. Looks good on my Kenmore. Pearl cott

What's Up

Well that is a big question, what's up Seeing how I haven't posted since before the retreat I went to. So I will show what I did at the retreat and what I have been doing these past few days, which is this Log Cabin Christmas Tree  wall hanging I have the blocks completed and now it just a matter of getting them sewn together. I'll get to that tomorrow. While at the retreat I made this baby quilt top with the disappearing 4-patch block. I had a charm pack and used some "snow" fabric Kaufman snow is one of my favorite whites to use. It's white but not a stark, bright white, goes well with a majority of the fabric I've collected. I started late making my blocks for RCS14 First I wasn't sure what pattern I wanted to make and then with all that was going on the first part of the year, I didn't start until July. One quilt is using a quarter log cabin in solid colors. I made these at the retreat, have the other half t
