What's up

What's up, I am going to a retreat for the first time in years this weekend. I am so excited I can burst.  So I've been getting ready things to work on while I'm there the four days. I'm working on my nested churn dash block . I have all my RSC14 blocks ready, January through July. I got a late start on things. This block or quilt is called railroad crossing, which has a lot of flying geese in it. And I love making flying geese with my Wing Clipper trimmer by Deb Tucker. Then I'm starting a rainbow quarter log cabin block that I will be set on point. I saw  it's somewhere on the Internet and I just couldn't get it out of my mind. I wish I could remember where I saw it but all I can do now is go by my memory. I'm taking some charm packs also to make a disappearing 4-patch quilt, if with high ambitions, I get these other blocks made. But I can only sit at a machine and sew for so long without having to get up and move. So I...

Fall Garden

If you grow a vegetable garden now you probably know it's that time, even though it's July and hot, it's time for getting your fall garden started.    I have been getting my beds ready for planting and making sure I have the seeds I need for a fall garden.  Here in Oklahoma where I live the average late frost date is  the first week in Nov. But if you do not know yours this an easy way to find out, just go here   You want to look at the fall temp 32 on the left and then follow it to you are in the 50% and that is your average date. Once you know that, then you figure out when to plant your seeds. Most of the veggies you'll plant can be planted directly in the garden but you'll need to provide additional irrigation. I use soaker hoses and light mulch. And in some classes, depending on how intense the heat is, I'll use shade cloth a few days before planting to cool the soil some and/or to keep the young plants from burning. Some ve...

Yarn along

It's been a couple weeks since I have posted anything knitting or crocheting related. So I have a few things I want to share that I have completed the past couple weeks. First is the crocheted market bag. I finish that up shortly after I had posted about it a couple weeks ago and just haven't got around to putting it on. It's a simple pattern that's fast and very practical. I ran out of variegated yarn I started with, so ended up adding some from my stash. It wasn't a variegated like I started with but I think it worked out pretty well. You can get the pattern here where I had posted it earlier. Then I made a pot  scrubber because  I have been using this one for so long as you can tell it's falling apart. And I really needed a new one.  So again I'll give you the instructions on how to make this pot scrubber.  They're perfect for using on pots and pans that you do not want to scratch in anyway but clean very thoroughly. What's up

Just put back up the nested churn dash block.   Just finished my Stash Buster quilt top which turned out pretty, especially seeing how I didn't have to go out and purchase one piece of fabric for this. I'm really loving how the Churn Dash block is turning out. Been wanting to make a yellow and gray quilt for quite a while now, and just thrills me to see how it's coming together. The pattern shows nine blocks with a sashing and border but I'm not quite sure if that's what  I'm going to use yet or not. Guess I'll just have to wait and see what fancy me. If you like this pattern go over to   quiltjane  for more info and how to get the pattern.

Week Of Farm Pictures

What's Up Monday

I have been busy outside of the home that I wasn't able to do much sewing today.  But here is what I have up on the wall waiting for more blocks to be completed.  Its going to be a full size quilt which will need 30 blocks and I have 20 done. The pattern is one you use a Jelly roll plus some for the sashing and borders. The pattern used is one that is from Sager Quilt. Every other month they have a meeting called Stash Busters where they give a free pattern and we come back two months later with our quilts we made using what we had in our stash. This one I have used only what I had in my stash. I want to share the pattern here.  I have up also are the blocks to the new 30's club quilt. Its a Lori Smith pattern  Lily's Garden I noticed that I hadn't appliqued the bottom right block when I took this picture, it's done now.

My Sunday and Stitching

It has been a perfect day to relax and enjoy some piecework. The temps are in the 90's with humidity to go along with it so its been an inside day. Was doing some sewing on the machine for awhile earlier but I'll show that tomorrow. Then some appliqueing, something I haven't done much of for sometime.  Have 12 blocks completed out of 42 Here is my stack of ones that need to be stitched down. I like to press my edges under and then use glue to attach the pieces to the background. Its water solvable and does a quick and great job of keeping them attached until I can get to them. Then I switch to crocheting when I need a break from stitching. Started the bag Wednesday and I'm close to being done but I'm not sure if I have enough yarn. Think I'm going to have to see what in my stash that will work and look good. Hoping your Sunday is going as well as mine.
