Rose Prairie Quilts and Farm

This is just a short post because it's late and we have been driving all day. I'm in Loveland Colorado for the Rocky Mountain Quilt Festival. This is the first time for me and I am looking forward to what the show will be like. If allowed I will have pictures tomorrow. Right now I am using my friends computer so I do not have access to my picture I took today I have always loved being in this part of Colorado. We plan on taking time to go to Estes Park. Now that is a gorgeous place. Will not have time to do any of the hikes but will have to get out and walk some in the park. Till next time Kat =^..^= 

This is not my original idea but it is a pretty darn good one. Seeing how I raise chickens, I have these Polywoven Feed Sacks but Sunflower Seeds come in these bags as does some dry pet food. This is my bag They are very easy to make but I'll suggest that you use a sewing machine that can sew through denim easily. The polywoven is a very tough material to sew through and use a larger size needle also. With an empty feed bag I rinsed it out and let dry. Step One: Cut off the pull string edge and then you will cut off  4 - 5 inches off the bottom of bag. You want to make sure not to cut into the design, so figure what you like on your bag. They are all different. Step Two : Turn bag inside out, sew along the bottom using 1/2" seam Step Three : You will miter the corners of the bottom. To do this you need to fold the bag with the seam going down the middle (see Photo).  Measure from the tip down each side 5".  Sew from one marked edge across to the other marked edge. D

Here is what's up on my design wall, this a Deb Tucker  pattern. She has designed tools to simplify making various combinations. Like this one is pieces to make a hunter star but there is no Y seams. When put together it looked like this Very pretty I think. Then I am working on this small wall hanging and I should be able to finish it today. Till next time Kat =^..^=

It was such a nice morning, temps in the low 60's with a nice breeze reminded me so much of fall. So it was a good morning for my walk and this is a picture of my driveway outside of my house yard. My driveway is a 1/4  mile to the gate where the blacktop is. Right now we have the cows in this pasture which mean I have to watch out for landmines. Yesterday one of the cows had a calf so I was able to get up close to it and take a picture but mom was not to keen on me getting too close Isn't he (yes another bull calf) cute. As you tell from this picture the 6 inches, yes 6 inches of rain we received has worked wonders on greening up the pasture. And the cows are really enjoying having green grass to eat again Happy cows I tell ya, laying around, chewing their cuds. Then I go a little ways past them to get really to my favorite part of my walk, here in this area it is cooler and just smells wonderful every time. Sometimes I smell the sycamore trees, or it could be a woodsy,

I belong to a very special group of ladies and feel very blessed to have them in my life. It's been such a pleasure to just sit and stitch every Thursday when  possible. Each one has given me so much more than I could ever had expected. We all share the love for applique and antique quilts but than each one of  us is so different, that's what make the group so special. While walking this morning I was thinking about what I was going to write about  the items  that Pam brought to the group the other day. You see about 6 years ago her mother had passed away and she has some of her mothers items and clothing. It's something I believe happens often. I can not speak from experience since I have still have my parents here with us but have seen others go through this. Well Pam is having a family reunion coming up so she had decide to make something for her sister and nieces from some of theirs mother items so she use a tablecloth and a dress. she went online to find a pattern

Sunflowers are my flavor flower. They just ooze happiness. Big, bright yellow, even the butterflies can not resist them. I love how the flower head follows the sun, facing the sunrise all the way until sunset . Love them  And to think Mr Groundhog had broke this one and it's stem is just connected by a small portion. This is one of the broccoli plants that Mr Groundhog ate down to it's stalk. I thought I would experiment and see what would happen if I just  let it grow. Well it is looking really good, now if it flowers would be the ideal outcome.                                                 The sweet potatoes are recovery well also You can see that it will be no time and I'll be harvesting the purple hull peas. These plants love the heat and seem be be a vegetable that is grown more so in the south. I did not know about these until I moved here to Oklahoma.They remind me of black-eyes peas.   I have pick a few okra pods this week. They are the most thickest plant

We are all doing the happy dance here on the farm. (this is suppose to be chicken impersonating Elvis). We have gotten some rain and I mean a significant amount too. Check it out. Look 2 inches of rain fell in about 8 hours. It was quite the storm. We have been in a very bad drought here in Oklahoma and the cattle have been suffering because of it. So this is a blessing. What a relief to see rain clouds over these very dry pasture. Unfortunatly not far from here an elderly lady died when very strong wing blew her mobile home some distance with her in it. This was about 4:00 am. I did not know her but my prayers go out to her family.
