Feeling like Fall

This week has felt a lot like fall with the nice cool morning and days warm and breezy. Love this time of year, hard to stay inside but I have had to. My mom is still in the hospital and have been spending time visiting. I take along piecework with me. Took the Mosaic Diamond (aka Mom's Quilt ) this week and have 2 more completed which now brings the total up to 13. Just a start tho, heaven knows it will take a lot of these diamonds to make a bed size quilt. Decided that it will be the size from what the fabric I have make. Also this week I have been working on getting the hexagon circle appliqued down for the center of the Dreamy Hexagon. Have 5 of the circles done and just 2 left. Then it's on to the next step.     Been thinking about the Retro Air-Ship Propeller and knew I wanted to do something else. Thinking about a thin strip of black and then a print border. It just that I haven't decided which one to use and hope you will let

A Finish and A Start

Oh it was such a splendid day.  Had the house to myself most of the day. My daughter went home, my sister went to my parents to help dad while mom is in the hospital and "The Man of The Place" was out doing his cow thing. So spent a good portion of my day in my happy place, aka sewing room. Have had the Retro Air-Ship Propeller blocks finished (so I thought) and ready to assemble.  Tried two layouts but didn't have enough to make it a full size top either way.  Had a decision to make, use what I made or make more.  I just didn't want to spend any more time on making more blocks.   This is what I thought of on point and used half blocks. Okay in my head I thought it would work and look nice but what I ended up is not quite what I pictured. It will make a nice lap or wall hanging... the size right now is  54"  sq. I want to say it's complete but I'm just not sure. Something is bugging me about i

Nothing much these day

Yesterday was my Mom's 3 month check up and her cancer has not changed in size, which is good news... especially since she has an aggressive kind. Bad news is that she has heart issues and the Doctor did not like what she saw and admitted her into the hospital yesterday.  Today when I saw her, she was still swollen in her legs, feet, arms and hands but not as bad as yesterday. Will have stay there at least another day...I figure she will be there maybe for the weekend myself. Had my hair cut before I went to visit her and now I'm good for another 6 weeks. My hair grows so fast so 6 week is as long I can go without looking ragged. Years ago I just had long hair and would get a trim a couple times a year....that was so much easier but I do like the look now. While waiting for the coloring to set I crochet on the baby blanket I'm been working on.  It is going pretty slow this time....well that is because I haven't worked on it much these days. No h

Busy Hexagon Day

It is a gorgeous day here in NE  Oklahoma, temps in the low 80's and humidity is only 44%...... perfect Done a little yard work and enjoyed walking today. It was so humid earlier this month which I just do not care for and don't tolerate very well, which means I did less walking earlier this month. Was able to finish the hexagon circles to the Dreamy Hexagon  last night. Now have all seven pinned in place to be applique and went together better than I thought.  There are still a gap or two between the hexagons but I believe I will be able to fix it where they will line up together. Have the thread picked and couldn't resist taking a picture...so pretty  My daughter is still home and bored, so she decided since she doesn't sew she could cut and prep my hexes for the Mosaic Diamond  Quilt. So far she has 13 ready with at least that many more together in groups. I will be set for awhile once she's done. My

Sunday

I have been finishing up appliqueing the hexagons circles to the floral centers.  I have done this two ways.... one with the shape in and out.  Found it easier with the shape out. I would remove the shape and press with some starch so it would be flat and crisp. Next will be to get them all sewn down to the background which will be the center of the quilt. Linking up with Kathy's Quilt.   That is about all I can get done seeing how tomorrow morning I'm getting a colonoscopy.....FUN...FUN...

TGIF

Boy does it seem like it's been a long week. My sister is still here and will be until the 9th of September... besides my sister, my youngest daughter has been here this week also. You can guess that I haven't done too much but was able to complete the Christmas Trip Around the World. My first TATW and found it easier than I thought it would be, so much so that I can see myself making another. Used fabric from my stash... honestly I did not realize I had as much Christmas fabric as I do. Going to have to come up with another pattern to use more of it up.   Also was able to finish weaving up some wash cloths. Had enough warp to do 3 cloths. Wasn't really sure on how to finish the and wanted to just get them done without taking time to find out how. So I did a small, tight zigzag stitch along the edge before cutting it apart. The next thing I did remember reading was to sew a hem on the edges.

How to Make a Portable Design Wall

I had wanted to get a portable design wall to take to retreats but did not want to pay the price. Looked at various pins on pinterest and took ideas from more than one to come up with my verison. It worked out great and only cost a fraction of the price. The PVC pipes, joints and 2 yards of felt cost under $22.00 My design wall is 4' x 4' which stands approximately 5 1/5' tall. For this size need 2 - 10ft length of 3/4" PVC pipe for the frame and 4ft of 1" PVC pipe for the feet Cut the 3/4" PVC into 4 - 4' section                                                                                       2 - 1' section              Cut the 1"  PVC into 4 - 1' section          The joints you'll need will be 2 - 3/4" elbows 2 - 3/4" T's 2 - 3/4" to 1" T (this will be the base of the Feet) 4 - 1" elbow Also need pipe cutters (this cost me almost as much
