Colorful Spools

NEW INTRODUCTION Last night I was working on this and pretty much was finished writing and was ready to upload the pics. Went to do that and found my iPad dead, needed to be charge so here it is the next morning seems like there is one thing or another lately. After a few days of only able to put in just 15 mins a day, yesterday I was able to sew for over 3 hours.  The first thing was to add a border to this months RSC. My next plan is to practice machine quilting. I think this could be a great way to get 15 minutes in. Have here shown 19 diamonds completed but there are a few missing. I have started adding the background hexagons So I needed to cut out some more  2" squares to prep some hexies for the Mosaic Diamonds.  Then I was going to start on something new but just wasn't in the mood to search down fabric. So decided to work on finishing something I started.  Picked the box that had the RSC blocks from 2015, picked the spools bloc

Just Another Day

It's been a long week, been everyday except yesterday spending the day at the hospital visiting mom. It takes up a good portion of the day but I have been able to get a little each day working on scraps and yesterday I was home so I was able to finally finish cleaning up this mess.  It took a while but this is how wonderful my room looks now. Have now all the UFOs up on the shelf instead of in the ironing shelf. Put in the shoe box size containers scrap bits, triangles, HST and some 1 1/2 strips.  Then in this shelf I have all the cut squares and strips. I know that I have some sizes that most don't save but they do come in handy when wanting make HST. I have been wanting to get this task done for a year now and it feel good to finally have it done. Now it's time to get busy using them up seeing how I have tubs of scraps I need to press and cut. Was able to do a little sewing after all this was done, Finish the baby Blue RSC

Whats Up 1-16-18

I meant to get this written last night but we were watching the last two episodes of Longmire on Netflix. This has been such a great show I hate to see it end and it had my full attention. I did get my 15 mins in but it was all on getting the cut scraps organized. It looks like a tornado hit. I had started before this saving the cut pieces in plastic bags marked so I knew which size it was.  These were all stored in one of those plastic erect drawer units.  I do not want those in the sewing room now. Going to use the storage unit / ironing station. So far I have 3 different sizes that will fit in the unit and not sure until it finished what it end up looking like. I would like to think it will be perfect but I know better. Imagine that it will need a little fine tuning as I start using it.  For the past year all of this has been out in the garage not being used. Was hoping to get it all done yesterday but unfortunately my Mom was a

Scrappy Sunday

Today I spent a good 5 hours in the sewing room working on pressing and cutting scraps into useful sizes. Had a good size piles to work with. I organize them by the closes size I could trim them down to. Starting with 2 1/2", 3", 3 1/2" 4", 5" 6 1/2" and had even a few large pieces With those I went ahead and cut them into squares and some strips. Some of the pieces were units that mom had sewn and strip sets Which I will use to help complete what I had up on the wall of the blocks mom made. Like I said yesterday this will be fun. My poor mom is now dealing with Bronchitis. Seems like it's one thing or another lately. She'll be surprised when she see what I've done with her scraps. This evening I took a break from sewing and did a little crocheting on a new afghan I started this week This too is using scrap yarn that mom gave me many years ago. Linking up with Kathy's   and with Cy

Scrappy Saturaday

I have been meaning to write something for the past couple of day. For one if you had been following me for a while you'll know that each January it is time for the Pantry Challenge, that's where you try to eat mainly from whats in the house only getting from the store your basics....milk, butter and fresh veggies and fruits. And beside that it is also National Soup month Thursday I made a big pot of Split Pea Soup with ham. Add to that some fresh cornbread. (All had in the house) Yummy We had nice temps until Thursday and that is when it got really cold again and hot soup does hit the spot. When cold spell hits I like to spend time sewing. Was able to start in on RSC for this month, color is blue. I decided to use Moda Love Charm Quilt pattern (free) and will make a baby quilt. Using some 30's reproduction fabric. Very easy little one to put together. Also dug out one of the scrap box container to find some more blue to c

Packing and Planning

Well we are back to a quiet home, even thou the grandsons were here less than a week, it was nice to have all the noise and activity 2 five years old bring. They flew home yesterday and I have spent part of yesterday and today putting up Christmas decorations. Pretty much done and I'm ready to get on with making plans for this month. I have decide which projects I want to post for 2018 FAL Q1 I believe I'll just pick 3.   Finish quilting on this, Scandinavian Christmas   This is a RSC from 2016 and there is really not much left to do. The goal is to finish the top, have it quilted and bound Lastly will be finishing up the baby blanket I started last year. Next thing will be to find a baby for this. I believe this is all doable.   Mailed off the little red hats today, the deadline was the 15th and I believe they should make it.  Feels good to have a something finished on time. Tomorrow will be a day of Doctor app

Stash, 15 mins and more

Here it is Sunday already and tomorrow the grandsons fly back home, their visit was way too short. But I have to say it wasn't one of our best thou. Ben was sick the whole time. He was congested like my daughter and then for the next 3 days he had a temp, stuffed up and a daily bout of throwing up. In fact on the way to the airport to pick up their mom he threw up in the car. Oh my what a mess and stunk, phew wee. Just hope he does okay on the plane ride home. Now on to more pleasant stuff. Last year I started keeping track of stash usage. I did really well until about October and then I really didn't do much to add to the total.  So my ending total usage 55 3/4 yards. I was hoping for more but at least it was to the good. Now for the start of 2018 It's easy one, this week I used a yard and half from my stash. Brought nothing in This also means I need to redo the stash report on the side here. I also going to add something else new Kate at Life in Piec

Getting So Forgetful

I had forgotten that I had listed a few things on the 4th quarter of FAL This quilt here was one that I had put on the list. And it is a finish. Yeah After the binding was put on I hung it up in the living room for the holidays.  I really enjoyed making this one. Another on the list is the Scandinavian Christmas  which I am still quilting on.  So I can not claim it as a finish.
