What's Up Monday

Howdy all I always like mornings and Mondays because it like a fresh start to your day and week. This Monday is starting off different though, "The Man of the Place" has caught a cold and is home sick today which means my day will not run as usual.   There has and will be a lot of this going on today but I will try to get a little sewing in done after I go run so errands this morning.  (medicine, etc. run) But this will be up on my wall begging for me to finish when I get back. The rows are not in exact order but I hope you can get the idea. There is still a large applique center row that I need to get prepared for appliqueing.  Now if you remember I had up on the wall last week the Sisters in Scripture blocks and no I did not do a thing to that one. Now I know why that one has been in the UFO pile. I just can not get motivated to finish it, I like it and have the first one finish but just find it hard on this one. It will get done. I still haven&#

What it's Thursday

Here it is Thursday, and my goal for the week was to work on my Sisters and Scriptures quilt top. But have I!  No!  What I've done is clean house, laundry, putt around and did everything but take a single stitch on that quilt . I did make some spool pin doilies .  What I did work on was one of my Get-R-Gone for this month and that was my 30's row quilt. I'm working on one of the rows that has four panels of appliqued flowers and leaves.    I had planned to have those ready to take with me to McAllen Texas last week, but I did not get them done like I was hoping. So now I feel pressured for time and I decided that I would do machine appliqué  instead of hand appliqué. It saves me some time doing it this way. The method I use is what I call needle turned appliqué on your machine . I have posted about this once before and I have it in my tutorial section at the top, just pushed the tutorial tab and there's a link to my machine appliqué

What's Up

The first thing that's up is the fact that I'm back home after a long trip down to McAllen TX. The show was nice and I'll post some pics later but right now I have a lot of catching up to do around the house and wanting to do some sewing. Quilt show always inspire me and I need to jump on that while the urge is hot.  I was not able to get the appliqued block prepared like I wanted, so I could work on them while traveling so instead I did a little embroidery work. That means I have don't have those blocks to show. Which means what's up on my wall is the same UFO from last week Sisters in Scriptures That is my quilting goal for the week, complete this one. Back later today with an update and pictures of the quilt show. Till then

What's Up 2-11-13

I have been getting myself back in the groove after having my daughter and her family here last week. The "little dudes" have grown so much in 3 months. They are now crawling and eating solids. BEN BLAKE I do not have a highchair so we feed them on the floor with a sheet under neath to catch all the run off. Can you guess who is the hearty eater. I am counting the days until I can see them again. So to pass the time I am focusing on things around here and working on my  Get - R - Done list is one way.   This is my Sisters in Scriptures 2 quilt. Started 4 years ago and I worked on it a little last year but as you see did not get it finished. This one is my favorite block, represents Elizabeth. I have made Sisters in Scriptures I, and thought I had a picture of it. I'll need to get it out and take one to show. Then I need to prepare the applique blocks for the other quilt on my list,

Git-R-Dones

I had a good month and was able to complete each one of my goals for January.  Here is what I was able to do 1. The boys quilts (yes two) I was to get them finished, quilted and binding on. They are ready for the "little dudes 2. Easy Street, I still haven't decided if I want a border on it. So as for now I'm calling it done, if I decide it needs a border I'll show a picture. I believe I'll get this one machine quilted. So busy and so many seams I will not even attempt quilting it myself. 3. My Pea Ridge Lily quilt is started like I wanted. There is a glitch thou, the background I was thinking about is out of stock/print so I do need to decide on a new background. But I have the flowers, stems and leaves fabric  picked and and in the cutting stage. 4. Dresden Plate top is finish. I started this over a year and half ago and I'm so pleased with how it looks. This one is now on my list of tops to be hand quilted. It fe

A good Book and a Little Creativity

Yeah!!!! It's done.  I have the border on and as you can tell it looks good. I might have to tweak it a little bit in some of the white pieces, there seem to be a little extra fabric that gives a ripple effect but other than that it looks great.   And as you can tell Buddy cannot wait to initiate the quilt top.  The corners went together fairly easy, a lot easier than I thought. I did not have to redo any of the corners. Lays perfectly flat with no puckers. I'm going to hand quilt this one and in the book it gives you the design for hand quilting. So the next thing will be after that the binding and I'm a little nervous about the binding. Going to be tricky with all those curves and points. The book is called Fancy to Frugal. When I sew I listen to books and Judy at  patchwork times     has now started on Tuesday what is it you're reading, I want to share what I am listening to right now. I also have shared in the pas

What's Up 1-28-13

I had this on my Get it Done list for this month and it is the last one I need to finish. All I need to do to finish this top is put the last border on. Have every piece cut and ready to be sewn together. Now I'm putting it up on the wall to see where it is I think the best choice of the color wedges might go. I'll let you know how these corners go together. I'm getting excited over the fact that I will have 3  quilt tops off my list  after I get this one done. I've been thinking about what I want on next month's list, it not far to the 1st, Friday. I hope to also if time allows and that is to sew on the binding to the boys quilts. I picked them up last week and they are trimmed and ready to sew..

It's Easy Street

YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's Done Well I did it, and I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get it done today like I wanted. You see I spent the day with my sister and parents and wasn't able to start putting the blocks together until  5:00 pm. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to put a border on it or not. Have thought about blue ( it's my favorite color ) but I will dwell on that for a while. I like the way it looks now. My cat Pete likes it too. I bet it wasn't more than a minute or two and he was on it. Lets put it this way, I was able to get a few pi ctures of the quilt without him. Like I've said before, there is something about quilts and cats. Now I can cross another one off the list.

Show and Tell

Today I attended the Dogwood Guild meeting and they were showing their "Git-R-Done" Challenge Quilts. What they did is at the beginning of last year, members of the guild made a commitment to finish a UFO or more and then when completed they received points. The one with the most in points received a ribbon and prize. So here are some of the "Git-R-Done" quilts. Very busy quilters.
