My Present Pillows

A week or so ago the Henry Glass Co. promoted a Holiday Blog Hop featuring their designers. I don't know if you have followed one but it can be  pretty interesting. You learned about the designers and most of the time they will have some sort of project. This one spoke to me, it said "you just have to make me". So I did . I found this at Pink Figs blog, this is her pattern called   present pillows . Click on present pillow to get her pattern. If you are looking for something unique to decorate your home, you might like this. Or if your needing a gift for one of the many parties you'll attend this holiday season I think this is a good one. I plan on making this pattern smaller to be a tree ornament. These pillows are being donated to a silent auction to help raise money for the Angel Tree and Christmas Food Baskets. We have an event called the Festival Of Trees at our church where the public can come look at decorated Christmas trees and other Chris

Baking and Sewing

It has been so windy today that I spent the day inside, so I did some sewing and the baking that I was going to do yesterday. Pam in my stitch group turned me on to King Aurthur Flour and it's where I came across this recipe for the best bread  I have made in awhile. It is so easy and tasty. This bread is made with white flour but I have another using whole wheat that I usually make but I was making this for others who do not eat WW. Besides being easy, it only takes 4 ingredients; flour, salt, yeast and water. Than all you need is a large bowl or a container like this, The recipe will make 3 or 4 loafs (depends on size you want) Oh, the smell of fresh baked bread, life gets no better. I can gain a pound just whiffing it up. So to keep my hands busy, I finally started Barbara Brackman's Civil War blocks. I have only been following her blog since she started it this year. Oh ya I know, your thinking I have had 11 months to be working on them. But it seems

Make a Dish Towel Apron

Here is the first of the apron patterns I promise to show how to make. This one is very easy and affordable. You need two dish towels, and 1 1/4 yard of 3/4" twill tape (available at Joann's) I had a package of three so I picked the two I liked, cost was $4.00. The towel that serves as the bib should be cut down to about 12" wide and hemmed along its long edges so that it is not too wide for the chest of the wearer.  To hem folded  the edge 1/4" and press and than fold again 1/4 and press. Then stitch. Take the one you want for bib and lay it  placed vertically, serves as the bib of the apron and the backside of its pockets. The second, positioned horizontally across the bottom half of the first towel, wraps around the wearer's hips and provides the front of the pockets. You might need to cut the bottom of the towel to make it the desired depth for pockets. I had to take off about 6", (this will depend on the size of y

Fleece Hat/Neck Warmer

At my last HCE (Home, Community and Education) meeting, my friend Fern gave us a pattern on how to make these hat/neck warmers and I wanted to show how easy it is to make one. And they rather stylist too. Perfect for all members of the family. I'm going to make one for my daughter in her school colors (orange and black for OSU) Go Pokes!!! But this one is for me I do not do self portrait photos very well but the hat does look good. So let's start. Materials need:  1/2 yard fleece,  1 yard of 1/8" to 3/16" cording (fray check for ends), cord stop, matching thread, scissors and/or rotary cutter and the usual sewing notions. Fleece: The following gives the average head size for various ages and the dimensions to cut your fleece.  These cutting dimensions are approximate and may need adjusting based on the person you are making the hat for.
