Rose Prairie Quilts and Farm

I have not written about any of the happenings here around the farm. During the winter months it can be slow until calving season starts. And this year has been one of those slow years  (thank goodness). After the past couple of winters we have had here in N.E. Oklahoma, "the man of the place" is so relieved. He is not trying to feed or check on cows in 2 feet of snow and ice. We are actually having above normal temp the past few weeks. As you can see the daffodils are already up and blooming. I believe this early for us. We also had our first calf a little early too. We had thought it would be more around the middle to end of February before any would be born, oops. Isn't he cute, he was born last week. "The man of the place" was out feeding some of the cows so he could tell me which ones he thought we're next to birth. I have been busy this past week around the house and was able to get a top finished and start on another new project plus work on a couple of my UFO's on my list. This is the Hunter Star that I making using Deb Tucker's ruler. It is a piece of cake, no Y-seams.  Easy Poached Eggs  In a 12-inch straight-sided skillet, heat 2 inches water over medium until bubbles cover the bottom and sides of pan.  Crack each large egg into a separate small bowl (do not use eggs with broken yolks).  When a few bubbles have broken the surface of the water, gently pour each egg into the pan, leaving room between them. Cook eggs, undisturbed, until white is just set and yolk is still runny, 3 to 4 minutes. Use a rubber spatula to gently release eggs from the bottom of pan, if necessary. Using a slotted spoon, remove eggs from water. If using immediately, blot the bottom of the spoon on a paper towel to remove excess water before serving. Cook's Note If your egg white thins out in the pan, try swirling the water before adding the next egg. The moving water will help hold the egg's shape. You can refrigerate poached eggs for up to 3 hours, on a parchment-lined plate. To serve, heat water in skillet according

Over at Patchwork times I joined the 2012 UFO Challenge   that Judy has going on. Now I am new to this and did not get the jiffs of it till just recently. You make a  list 12 UFO's you plan to finish this year, (I'll put my list up here soon). I learned that a number is picked and you work on that one for the month. # 5 was picked for January and this is my #5    This is Vintage Memories (Garden) by Blackbird Designs and I failed to finish it in time. I'm one block short and the sashing/border. I plan on working on it along with this months choice (#1). Try my best to get it done.   This is February's  #1 my Hunter Star Will be 80" x 90" Now I need to also talk about what I did get finished and that is the Purple Sugar Twist It is twice the size that the pattern was, I wanted it fit on my daughter's bed. Now I need to take it to the quilter cause I want it done soon so when I go to California I will have to give to her. Then

I was able to work on something of my own today and that was the second set of it takes two. Now I don't know about anyone else but I had some issues with a couple of blocks. I thought I had read somewhere else about the same thing but when I went looking for it I could not find it.  It took me all day because I had to deal with trying to find someone who would come out here to work on our hot water heater. It went out Friday and "the man of the place" could not get it working. I was told by a couple of places that they didn't come this far out here. Finally found someone who would but not until tomorrow. I am really needed a shower in a bad way. A sponge bath only go so far if you ask me. "The man of the place " actually takes a cold shower. I'm a sissy and just can't do it. I finish one of the grandson's hats. Spaghetti Cabonara Ingredients 1 pound spaghetti 1/2 pound bacon, sliced crosswise into 1/2 inch pieces 3 large eggs 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese with some extra for topping Black pepper Directions Bring a large pot of water to a boil over high heat and cook the spaghetti. Meanwhile, in a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium-low heat until just crispy, 8 to 10 minutes. Skim off some of the fat. Drain the pasta, add to the bacon in the pan, and toss to combine. Whisk together the eggs, cheese, and pepper in a small bowl. Pour into the pasta, and combine thoroughly. Serve immediately with extra grated cheese, if desired. Serves 4 - 6 Now do not worry about the raw eggs, seeing how the pan is hot, the noodle are hot and so is the bacon, the egg mixture is cooked plus the cheese melts. First time for this one and I like it and so did "the man of the place". Very easy and fast.

I was doing so good until this week.  I couldn't help it, I was at a shop that had Blueberry Crumb Cake by Moda  and I have this thing for blue so I just could resist. Have no quilt planned, just goes in the stash for when I do find that right project. I had not bought any fabric in a couple of months and then it's like I went off to the deep end. I have bought 35.5 yards.    Woo - wee I now have a minus usage. Used this Week: .5 yards Used year to Date: 4.5 yards Added this Week: 35.5 yards Added Year to Date: 36 yards Net Used for 2012: -31.5 yards Not good, I need to get really busy and start using it up.  Check out  Patchwork Times  to see how others are doing.
