My Sunflower Quilt

Yea it's done. It has been a few years since I started this quilt. It was a BOM at Sager Creek Quilt Shop . Pam's (the owner) friend Marilyn McSpadden designed this quilt and Pam quilted it. Marilyn  used a lot of different techniques in appliqued designs.I just loved the weaving of fabric in the center of this blocks.   What beautiful quilting she did. I favor hand quilting but for machine quilting this is top notch.  As you can see Marilyn had design some of the blocks in 3 dimensional    And the rouging in the center of this sunflower was fun. Love the details in the quilting. This quilt measures 64 x 82 and was a fun challenge. This quilt will go in my dining room.

Winter Spinach Salad

I was so happy to hear that spinach was the ingredient of choice this week. I have spinach out in the garden still, don't know if you know this but in most places spinach is a great winter crop. It has been a mild winter up until last week so the spinach has been coming along wonderfully, I needed to go pick some.  Winter Spinach Salad I can not remember if I had this salad at a restaurant, seen it on TV or read the recipe but I have been making it for a few years now. Being that I came about one of those ways I do not have a written recipe to copy here, what I'll do is just show you what I put in mine and tell you how I make it. These are the ingredients I used; 1 bunch Spinach 1/2 cup Cranraisin  1 or 2 Oranges, or 3 Tangerine, Mandarin Oranges or "Cuties" (love those when I can get them) 1/3 cup Walnut or Pecan chopped Red Onion sliced thin,  Honey Mustard Dressing Clean thoroughly your spinach and tear into bit size pieces, about 8

Weekly Goal

Well week 2 goal  has been eagerly worked on but not completed the way I want it to be. I was able to get a good start on it. I had started and then my youngest daughter came home Thursday and stayed until yesterday. That is the room she stays in when she comes home, so you can see why I needed it to get clean out. Plus my other daughter and her family is coming the first of February and I'll need that room for the "little dudes"  Here is the product of my hard work Before                                                                               After Before                                                                   After  There are these boxes I need to go through,   and magazines I need to purge, here on the floor and up on top of this bookcase. I hope to do that in the next week and definitely before my daughter comes. Now week 3 goal, it's to do the pantry that I only touch on a few months ago.    It needs a ma

What's Up 1/14/13

This morning I thought I would do little prep work on my daughters quilt that I started back in 2004. My plan was to get it prep to sew and then I would be a little ahead at getting it done.   So I put it up on the design wall the three rows left to sew. I thought, okay I need to make sure that the row before this one I'm starting is in the right direction. I didn't want to accidentally get them flipped around. That next row was okay, and the next one was okay, then I got up to like the fifth row back and realized, oh no I made a mistake.    Okay can you see where my mistake is. I took picture of when I flipped them the right direction, all right side up.  and then I flipped the boo boo ones the wrong side up. I cannot believe I did that.  Just a little boo boo You see this quilt I am doing is all sewn by hand and then I'm going to hand quilt it. I thought I was just down to three rows left to do and then start attaching all the rows. But now I get

Cinnamon Chip Scones

I have a thing for the Cinnamon Chip Scones at Panera Bread, so the other day I was looking around for the recipe. Came across this recipe and gave it a try. Now I did add a teaspoon of cinnamon to the mix and to the cinnamon on the top of the scones. I really like cinnamon. Boy were they delicious, actually too good. Now I realize some of you have enough snow already and this picture is just another cold  snowy  one but here in Oklahoma we are in a very serious drought and we will take any moisture we can get. We had rain then some sleet and then this  morning  we woke up to this. A couple of inches of snow.   And a warm scones with a cup of hot coffee really hits the spot. http://heritageschoolhouse.blogspot.com/ Cinnamon Chip Scones (from Simple and Delicious magazine) 12 servings 3 1/4 cups flour 1/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar,  divided 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon cinnamon (my add) 3/4 cup cold but

Birding

I have for the past 13 years participated in the Oklahoma Winter Bird Survey.  In 13 years I have missed three times and last year being one  and I was looking so forward to this years survey. It's usually the second weekend in January. I guess because I missed it last year, I did not realize that it had changed, it was last weekend and not this weekend. Talk about a disappointment, I was looking forward to it. I had bought birdseed and I've been feeding them for the past couple weeks to get them all prepared, knowing where the feeders are.  Well so much for that survey, so what I did is I went online and I went to the Audubon website, and the Cornell university website. They have various surveys or bird counts going on all year long.  There's one in February that I want to try to participate in. I'm giving you the website or links to those surveys and bird count going on.  I'm not sure if every state like Oklahoma has a bird count that goes
