Looking Like Something

Making some progress on this month goal. I trimmed up the appliqué blocks to 12 1/2 inches and started cutting the setting triangles that will be attached to the appliquéd blocks.  I'm getting excited, it's starting to look like the quilt it's supposed to be.    I've also started on prepping for the HST. I'm going to do the eight at a time method but I think I will do that but times 3.  Marking this rectangle on the wrong side of the light fabric just like you would on the "8 at one time" but will add 2 more sections,  off a little on the right, pay no attention to that, it will work out. like so. Not sure what I'll get done today seeing how I need to go back to Tulsa and drop off some wood and carpet samples that I had picked up on Wednesday. We've narrowed it down to a couple choices for wood. The carpet it's just a matter of getting the right color we like.  So I'm trying to work quickly on

FAL Q2 Finishes

When I realized that the second quarter of the FAL over at Sew Can Quilt was over and everyone were posting their finishes, I thought to myself "I did it again, another 3 months have gone by and I've done other projects other than the ones I posted that were priority. But it was just now as I was thinking about should I just go ahead and repeat last quarters list  (link to the list) when it dawn on me that I do have one finished.  It's a knitted item, one of the Fringeworthy scarfs I've made.     Started and finished this back in April .  It was a simple and fun project to knit. I feel so much better now linking my finish at  she can quilt

My July OMG

Yesterday I was in Tulsa most of the day looking for new flooring samples to bring home. I'm narrowing down what looks good with the existing  woodwork I have in my home. Have the plushness decided now it's the color of the carpet. Linoleum I have already decided on. Becuase being gone, I did no sewing yesterday. But I do want to share what my OMG goal for this month. I found out about the OMG at Red Letter Quilts about a month ago, after I had gotten back from the boys. This is the first time I will be participating and giving myself this one month goal. If not like I haven't given myself goals in the past but first for this. So I'm being very ambitious and devoted to finishing my "Words to Live By quilt.  I pretty much have all the appliquéd blocks completed but still need to do some embroidery detail and a little bit more on my center block. That means after that is putting in all the setting triangles and making t

What's up 07.05.16

What's up is all good.  I did complete the hearts and cross stitched snowflakes, made the border and attached it to the top.  Can now say that I am one step closer to having this up on the wall for Christmas this year. Need to locate a backing so I can start quilting on this, was done in a big stitch using the embroidery floss, using whats on the snowflakes Now it's onto "Words to Live By".  I've been writing the words on the blocks. It took me a while to decide whether or not I wanted the words but they are so nicely written and when I did a practice word I decided that it wasn't to obstructive. And while doing the words on the blocks I realize that some of the blocks had not been completed with any embroidery accents Put them aside in a pile so I could be working on those while watching TV. I decided also on which method I'm going to use on the HST. Seeing h

Rainy Sunday

It's been a rainy day which makes for a great day to spend time inside with my hubby and doing some needlework.  Oh ya, a nap too. I'm in the making of the final few blocks for the boarder. Last 3 cross stitch snowflakes and 7 hearts.  Not sure those will get finished by tonight but I'll give it a healthy try.  Mainly today thou is enjoying the rain and my hubby. Linking up with Kathy

Half Square Triangles

Did what I said earlier and experimented with all the different ways I could find to make HST. Tried 7 different ways, some I have done before and the rest I haven't until now.  All worked out, made what I needed. As long as sewn a very close 1/4" I had no problems but we all know that doesn't always happen. I'll share a brief directions of what worked with each option I tried. I'll give links for where I found the directions that I used. That way this doesn't have to be pages long. First option was having two triangles to sew together. I have found that if they are slightly larger than suggested, I can trim down and the same goes with Option 2. Taking a 2 squares sewn together. Most instruction say to add 7/8" to the finish size to make the squares but I like to do an inch. That way I can again trim down if need to. Option 3 was making 4 at a time.
