Rose Prairie Quilts and Farm

I've been needing to share what I've been making with my little cricket loom. I am so in love with weaving that I'm afraid I'm going to have to get a bigger one. But I believe I will wait till the new year and make it a birthday present for myself.  So far I've just been weaving scarves. I have a large stash of yarn that have been given to me over the years and seeing how my carpal tunnel is not getting any better this weaving is perfect for using up my stash. And besides that they make great gifts or for donations.  So here is what I have done so far minus one scarf that my youngest daughter has already claimed of her own and taken.  After I'm done with this one on the loom which I'm afraid will not be long enough for a scarf because this is the last of the yarn I have. It has been a warm day again, here it is November 1st and it looks like spring out the window Poor Lilac bush, blooming in confusion. Took some time this morning to check on the sheep and they are doing a great job so far, Thursday it will be a week and I'll show what a weeks worth of munching is. Well I'm so excited to have this finished so quickly. It's not like me.... usually I start something  and then get side track to come back later to finish.  Feels really good to work like that, been a while. White Birches is a simple design but so pretty. I had found this fabric a while back and it is just perfect for the back.  Thought about using it in place of the grey border but decided against it.  Would of worked but just wanted a more solid color look and this fabric would of looked more striped. The little birds turned out like I hoped with a little depth to them. This one is one I plan on quilting myself.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN I was hoping I could show a finished top but it was getting late and needed to stop and fix dinner and such.  The White Birches  started this afternoon looking like this. Was able to get most of the borders on. You can't really tell from the photo but there are 3 rounds of borders, White, then grey and than another white with  a red flange But all that's lacking is the two sides.  Again it will have to be tomorrow. I want to finish this so I can start another project for Christmas but I'll share that only after this is done tomorrow

Woke up this morning with a sinus headache and felt  poorly. Ended up sleeping in which made for a slow start today. Did very little because of that. Did some weaving on another scarf I started a couple weeks ago, this one is with finger weight yarn both in the warp and weft. Using one skein, not sure it will be enough tho. I like how a variegated yarn will end up making stripes. Also been wanting to make some pants for myself. As I have gotten older, comfort take presidents over too much fashion. Don't get me wrong, I still like to look nice but not in the same way I did say in my 30's or 40's. My curves are not same so my style had to change. Today I cut out a pair of pants. Have used this pattern before and they are comfy pants. They look huge in this picture. But the front and back are one piece, no side seam. And yes they are loose fitting. I love it when I can say that, a finish..... well the top at least. Yesterday was able to assembled all the sections to the Seven Sisters , then came the tricky part. I do not have a pattern, so it's one of those figure as you go job. First thought was the corner pieces would be 60 degree angle but no. 120 is what it was. Attached those and I believe I will leave it at that, no borders.  A colorful binding will give it the look. This is going to be a crib size 62" x 46" Seeing how that was something I did not have on my list, I am so ready to get back to my list. Decided to do White Birches wall hanging.  I think it will be a nice Christmas addition. This quilt I had seen on many occasions at shows, magazines and over at Barbara's blog Cat Patches  . I have written much lately about the going ons here at the farm. We have had a pretty quiet year. (KNOCK ON WOOD) Which is good and not the norm, but hey I'm loving it. My garden in June after I came back from California This is a the sweet potato bed in June. I had this year decided not to work that hard in the veggie garden. Needed a break , which meant the garden became the best weed patch on the farm. My Garden Now Can you see the tomatoes? The only few things that were and are still out there growing among the weed. This is the sweet potato bed now Tomatoes, peppers and sweet potatoes. Well I had been thinking about when it cooled off like now, that would be the time to start cleaning it up. But then a couple days ago I had read about someone who said it was getting to be that time to put her goats out in the garden to do the fall cleaning up. I have been so busy the past two days, that I have a variety of things to share. First of all whats up on the design wall. I'm making a crib size quilt and with the small jelly roll I had it was perfect for these 4 set of Seven Sisters. I have as I write this 2 of the 4 ready to put the sections together. The other 2. I have the units made as you can see but will be sewing them into sections.   There are 6 sections I also been sewing another section of the HST border for the Words to Live By  Had put this second for a few weeks now, plugging along. "The Man of The Place" did get the Christmas boxes down  for me and yesterday I just checked them all to see if there was any mice damage. Just a couple items, almost all good. I will sort what I want to keep or past on as I decorate. Did also clean out the chicken coop and the pullets pen. Now the girls are good to go for a few.  Today I wanted to send the "Little Dudes&qu
