Oh so close

You know that saying "close but no cigar." Well that is what I can say about my red string quilt. The strip sets I had made wasn't  enough,  even thou I did end with parts left.  But they were not the  6" strips which I am 12 inches short of completing one X block. Just need  2 sections like this to make the block.   That's one block short of finishing all of the blocks for the top.  Now  I don't have all the blocks up  in the picture showing my design, it's due to the limited space on the  wall.  It's 2 rows short. My plan for today is to assemble all the blocks after the additional strip set for the piece needed to finish the X block. I think I'll gonna go head and make a larger strip set to cut that down for the border. Before sewing the rows together, I need to position the X's a certain way. Looking at whats up now I can tell they are not. It needs to look like chain links

What's Up

Up on the design wall this fine Monday morning, is what I had been working on for the past few days and that was making the strip sets for the Red String Quilt. They're not cut to the size needed for the blocks yet but even though, I'm not sure if I have enough made to finish the top. I know I don't have enough to do the border.  Now the border in the book it's just a plain background fabric border but I thought about using a small string strip in between two background strips And I'm also making mine a little larger than the one in the book I'm going to do it in a square 96" x 96" That being said that will probably keep me busy all day. If I get bored or I do for some reason actually finished putting what I have prepped together, I need to work on October the Farmer's Wife blocks. And also the Lime Pickles will be ready to can this afternoon or evening so I'll be needing to do that later today. Now I wa

Just Like a Turtle

I That has been me today.  And you know what, I loved it and did manage to accomplish so much more than I really planned on. The list for To do's was....   Read a little Start another batch of Lime Pickles Put binding on one of the flying geese lap quilts This is the first of the two that I have been working on.  I used the scraps I had leftover from the geese for the binding.  And I was very lucky cause I had just enough to be able to bind the both, in fact I had less than 12" left. It is so nice to get these done and in plenty of time for Christmas. But if you were to look it up it's only 116 days (from today). The last thing was to make something new with zucchini's. I'm doing that now, making a dessert pie but won't know how it turned out till later and I'll share that tomorrow. Write my Mom My mother lives in Kenai, Alaska and I try to keep her up to date on how her

Rainbow Scrap Quilts

Yeah, it's Friday. I get excited over Friday whether I have something to do on the weekend or not. Just an old habit from working.  Amy at Love Made My Home has not been posting Five on Fridays this whole month of August cause she taken the month off. She'll start back up next Friday but I still want to go ahead and post my Five for Friday My five pics will be the five rainbow scrap quilts that I am making in regard to so scrappy RSC 15 challenge I have 2 of the 5 sets caught up with all the colors for year.  Being that this month was indigo and here are my indigo blocks Some how I miss counted how many blocks to make, need 2 more. But then the other 3 sets, I still have to catch up on May and June the baby blue and the bright green.  1. Is the spool blocks. These are made from small pieces of scrap from trimming up my bigger scrap. I just couldn't throw them away, had to make something from them. Which those smal

What's my Next Decision

While in a stupor yesterday and doing some quilting while watching some Masterpiece Theater, I was thinking more about how I wanted to do the border of the 30's sampler Like I mentioned yesterday I have been basically quilting a quarter inch outline stitch, or in the ditch  and sometime just a barely outline stitch around the applique.  Thinking about the border which is not that wide, it's a 5" border that is basically a straight design. I have  rectangle patches of the print fabric with a strip of the background fabric on each side.  So I was considering....  OK if I'm just going to go with what I've done with the rest of the quilt and do an outline stitch but do I do it only on the border fabric....  or do I do it on the printed fabric.   And I have even considered doing it on both but in reality it's not needed to keep the batting secure and that would be more for an aesthetic look.  T

Dazed and confused

Today I am what you would say out of it. Yesterday afternoon I had 2 cups of caffeinated coffee (I normally don't do) which kept me up till 2 AM. I get up at six with "The Man of the Place" every morning and like any other morning, was up at six this morning. I need more than four hours of sleep. Without my normal amount of sleep, which is like seven hours, I just feel so out of it.  Passed on any heavy gardening this morning.   watered the seeds planted, water the potted plants on the porch, fed the birds and deadheaded some of my perennial.  Added to that a day of mindless sewing. Started a few spool block and worked on some strips sets  Quilting on the 30's sampler some, I'm down to what I would call the last row. But I haven't decided yet what I'm going to do with the border. I've done mainly outline or in the ditch. I would love to get this one done within the next month or two. I'm such a slow
