My day

Image result for doors

It was a nice crisp morning, temps in the high 20's and low 30's. Do have a wind from the northwest but sunny. All the makings of a beautiful day. Which it is. Made my list of things to accomplish today, had my coffee, a banana and proceeded to go about taking care of the things on my list.
I had strip the bed and done a couple of loads of laundry. Clean out the litter box. And straightened up and was dressed for the most part. Had a nice warm fire in the stove, in fact I felt overheated after vacuuming. So when I went outside to dump that stuff that I've vacuumed up (have a bag less vacuum) it felt rather refreshing,  being in short sleeves and Birkenstocks with no socks. Saying that to myself, until I went to open the door to get back in.

Low and behold ... I hadn't unlock the bottom lock, so needless to say I had locked myself out of the house.
I've done this before and I would just go to my car use the garage door opener and unlock the back door with the key spare key that it is stashed inside the garage.  But because I had been in California, I had given the garage opener to "the man at the place" which was now in the house.
Being that it is cold, all the windows are shut and locked up tight as a drum.
Don't want anyone to break-in you know.
So I cussed and walked around the house checking doors and windows. Did find one window unlocked in the sewing room but no, couldn't get it open.
Did some more cussing and trying to figure out what to do.
You see there were a few things not in my favor of getting back in, at least right away.
"The man of the place" it out deer hunting and normally will not be back until two or so. And here it is 10 o'clock in the morning.
To think I was making such good progress on my list too.
Another reason of course is I didn't have my phone on me. Why would I, I'm cleaning the house.
Had thought about either walking to the nearest neighbor ( quarter mile away) to use their phone to call my father-in-law, who has a spare key,
but you see, here is another the other reason
I do not have my dentures in. They are in the bathroom soaking..... getting cleaned.
That's right, I'm toothless.
I know that's just being vain.
But I do not like to be seen without them in
And most people until now, don't realize I have dentures. Thought about walking just to my father-in-law's home who lives about a mile "as the crow flies", but to do that I would have to walk through pastures, woods and cross the creek all in my Birkenstocks  (no socks) and a short sleeve summer shirt. Decided against that, no need to get hurt or sick over this.
So I decided to just sit it out in the car, out of the wind. Did happen to find a blanket in one of the trucks, some water and toilet paper in the feed truck. Yes that's right toilet paper, when you're out in the pasture working the cows and there's really not a close bathroom to use, you have to go outside.
Also found paper and a pen to write this all down, which gave me something to do and something to post later.
I did write a letter to my mother also while waiting.
Bundled up in a blanket for "the man of the place" to return. He does make it home around 2 o'clock and I am able to get into the house then.
But that's not the end of my story.
I get in the house put on some warm socks and a warmer shirt and  phone rings, its my parents. they're down at the gate which is locked and they come to visit.
We had a good visit and a good laugh over it all.
Have to say my list will be ready for me tomorrow.

Note to Self...
Make a spare key to put outside somewhere so this never happens again
And
Never step outside the door without your teeth.

I am going to spend the rest of the evening having a nice warm meal and doing some quilting.

Thou I didn't get much done, it was a slow Sunday

  2. Boy I hope I learn from your experience! The police let me in when only the bottom lock was locked. The officer used a credit card, presto. But you didn't have that option today. It is a good thing you don't keep your car locked all the time like I do. You survived nicely with some enforced meditation and fasting. It is such a good story now that it is over.

  8. Sounds like you made the best of a bad situation. Thanks for sharing the story, though I'm sure it wasn't so funny when you were sitting in the car waiting for your guy to get home.

How to Make a Portable Design Wall

I had wanted to get a portable design wall to take to retreats but did not want to pay the price. Looked at various pins on pinterest and took ideas from more than one to come up with my verison. It worked out great and only cost a fraction of the price. The PVC pipes, joints and 2 yards of felt cost under $22.00 My design wall is 4' x 4' which stands approximately 5 1/5' tall. For this size need 2 - 10ft length of 3/4" PVC pipe for the frame and 4ft of 1" PVC pipe for the feet Cut the 3/4" PVC into 4 - 4' section                                                                                       2 - 1' section              Cut the 1"  PVC into 4 - 1' section          The joints you'll need will be 2 - 3/4" elbows 2 - 3/4" T's 2 - 3/4" to 1" T (this will be the base of the Feet) 4 - 1" elbow Also need pipe cutters (this cost me almost as much

Yarn Along 2/20/13 Spoon Pin Doily

It's snowing here and I know some of you are tired of snow but here we will take the moisture any way we can get it. Plus it just gives me a reason to stay in and work on some of my projects. In this picture I'm not sure if you can make it out but in the background there are some wild turkeys that hang around the house sometime, just  chilling This project I'm working on is Spool Pin Doilies.   I had never heard of them before until Bonnie Hunter had mentioned it on her blog . She a had a viewer send her one for her sewing machine along with a pattern. I did not like the pattern but loved the idea so I decided to make up my own version. I wanted a more simple, smaller and fuller doily. So I tried different thread sizes to get one that I like. (From left to right) I tried sock yarn, which I'll redo because I think I like that look. Heavy weight crochet thread, nope too big Bamboo yarn, I like it. Looks good on my Kenmore. Pearl cott

What's Up

Well that is a big question, what's up Seeing how I haven't posted since before the retreat I went to. So I will show what I did at the retreat and what I have been doing these past few days, which is this Log Cabin Christmas Tree  wall hanging I have the blocks completed and now it just a matter of getting them sewn together. I'll get to that tomorrow. While at the retreat I made this baby quilt top with the disappearing 4-patch block. I had a charm pack and used some "snow" fabric Kaufman snow is one of my favorite whites to use. It's white but not a stark, bright white, goes well with a majority of the fabric I've collected. I started late making my blocks for RCS14 First I wasn't sure what pattern I wanted to make and then with all that was going on the first part of the year, I didn't start until July. One quilt is using a quarter log cabin in solid colors. I made these at the retreat, have the other half t
