Slow Sunday 3.26.17

I'm going to do a little catch-up on this post since I haven't written since Monday.  I was able to finish machine quilting and putting binding on 2 baby quilts. These for RSC quilts that I had started a couple years ago. Nothing like UFO's. Does feel good to finally get them completed. Now they are ready for a new home.  This one had leftover blocks from a quilt I made my oldest daughter Quilting was done with my walking foot and did it all in the ditch.  Did the same with the next one.  Also used a sheet from Walmart for the backing and binding. And still have enough leftover to back at least another small quilt. I also put the binding on two large quilt that I have had finished and waiting for their turn.  That is what I'm going to stitch on this evening while watching TV with "the man of the place". I had also finish putting the top together that I had posted about Monday that w

Sunday Bliss

I have been today for some unknown irrational reason working on prepping an applique block. Why I'm doing this really make no since because Thursday I will surgery done on both wrists for carpal tunnel. Since both are in need but the right hand is the worst, my surgeon explain doing both at the same time is the best way to go. Healing will be better in the long run. Will see Anyway that being said, it's silly really to be doing this instead finishing something else. All I can say is I wanted to. It is a Blackbird Design, Warm Hearts I started years ago and put aside. Came across it while looking for fabric the other day. Couldn't get it out of my thoughts. Have 2 of the 9 blocks already done Since the pattern was already made and ready to use I went ahead with the method I prep.  Using freezer paper and starch. Now after this week I'm not sure how long it will be before I get back to stitc

Baking and Album Blocks

This afternoon looking out the window, this is what I saw. There was 15 but all I see is 12 in the picture. We had a little rain this morning, nothing like what some are going through. And when it's cloudy and cold I have to cook or bake. The Man of the Place wanted a cake today so I bake a Chocolate Sheet Cake and if I'm going to make one I might as well, as Ree calls it, The Best Chocolate Sheet Cake ever.  The Man of the Place loves it and I think you might too. Now with mine I used Dark Cocoa powder and walnuts instead of pecans.  Beside baking and cleaning up the mess.... I have been working on the Friendship blocks.  Have embroidered these 9 and there are 10 left to do. As you can see some have not been trim which is good. That way I can trim them down all to the same size. So much easier that way. Started some orange marmalade and still working on it, I'll have to show tomorrow if I succeeded or not. This is my first ti

SLOW SUNDAY

When you have a cold your day goes slowly, well mine has pretty much slowed to a halt today. Yesterday even though I knew I was coming down with a cold but I was feeling well enough to sew most of the day. It was too cold to go out and help with feeding the cattle and by the way we had 8 calves born this week. Pretty Red cows was not one of them thou. One of the heifers here had a calf today but I get a picture when I feel better. Update; I am reposting this at Elm Street Quilts to show my January finish. Thi quilt is at the quilter right now and wish I had it back to finish the binding. Finished the Vintage Christmas Quilt. This is my January OMG The pattern was well written and easy to follow. It shows when you have so many pieces to sew together and it measures out right when attaching a multi blocks to a solid piece. And I have to say partly to that I found my 1/4" and was pretty consistent. But instructions are great.

WOW November Just Flew By

Here it's been three weeks since the last time I wrote, seem shorter than that. I have been so busy with getting ready for the holidays. My daughters will be here this year starting next week. I had intended to share so much over this time and will but right now I'll keep it short.  With all the decorating, cleaning, baking, cooking and shopping, I have had little time sewing but need to get busy this week. I have plans to make a tree skirt to have the family put painted hand prints on and each year the boys can add theirs. Also we are going to ride the Polar Express Train out of Stillwater Oklahoma and thought it would be so cute if the boys had PJ's like the little boy in the book    I have the flannel and pattern, so need to just get to it.  Update on the pants I cut out earlier this month..... I had made and I guess I hadn't gained as much as I thought I did for the size I cut out.  Very baggy but that's Okay. I'll just wear them a

Sunday

Oh what a wonderful morning it is today in Northeast Oklahoma. Makes me want to just stay outside and find some sewing to do out on the back porch. Which is what I'm going to do.  While sitting here I see the container garden I started and realize I haven't written about how it faired this summer, I'll need to do that soon. Not now, it's Sunday. I was able to get the binding on this week for my gingerbread wall hanging,  and so I'm going to take time to enjoy this wonderful morning. Now I was earlier reading some of the links that are here at  Kathy's Quilt. And Kate over at Life in Pieces had a wonderful idea of what she was going to do with her Sunday, she called it her personal retreat day. I found that wonderful. Taking some time to yourself and doing a craft that you enjoy and maybe listen to music, maybe a podcast or a book maybe nothing at all, just nature. How often do we get to do that. I wish I could say I co

I love Sundays

Sundays have always been a day of rest since I was a kid but not all Sundays can we rest.  Today was one of rest and it was nice to just take time to think and reflect. I can do that when I do mindless sewing and that is what I was doing today. In the Words to Live By quilt I did what the directions said but for some reason I did not have enough black and tan HST. Fixed up another 80 HST, sewn and trimmed them today. Now I'm ready to finish the boarders now. While doing that I was looking around the room and thinking about what I wanted to put back in here and where. Notice the shelf with a little fabric on it that hadn't been wrapped around the boards I have. Took a little time to do about half of the stack.  I wrap only pieces that are larger than 1/2 yard and up to 4 yds. If they are 4 yards or more I use the boards they use at quilts shops. They will give them to you if ask, otherwise they just trash them.  Wh
