Update Day 1

Well after the usually "I have not  done this in a few days and I'm so excited to be sewing some" problem. I'm able to proceed.  The tension goes screwy  Needless to say after ripping out the bad stitches and cleaning out the bobbin area I was able to sew on the small outer border. Cut the strip for the outside border and put it all on the wall. I really don't like the look of just adding it straight across like that, so I am going to see about mitering the corners. The pattern repeats every 3 inches and I haven't done the math yet but I would really like to do it that way..  I have done mitered corners but not with a pattern like this. Little scary trying something new. Fingers crossed. Its 1:30 now and I'll have lunch and go about with a few things I need to tend to and I'll be back at it. Till then

Joining in Quiltathon Day 1

I was suppose to have our stitch group today but with most of us out and about it was cancelled, so what am  I to do? Well I could give my house a good cleaning, NOPE I could can the apples I have, MAYBE (squeeze it in) Read blogs, I would like to but,  NOPE Sew YES! YES! YES! I had my mind set on it and I have a few things I need to complete before "the man of the place " is home on vacation next week. (Can't get any sewing done when he's home) So to give me the feel like I'm with others stitching, I'm joining in with  Judy at Patchwork Times in what she calls a Quiltathon.   You devote yourself anytime in these next 4 days to quilting/sewing  and posting about it off and on showing what's up and what you get done.  I wish I could say I can devote all day, all 4 days to sewing but around here I have some things I need to do. You know farm chores but I am going to devote the time not doing chores to sewing and not anything else.

Change of Mind

Isn't that a woman right to be able change her mind. I thought these little dogs were so cute and would be easy for little hands to grab. So those giraffes will just have to wait.  I saw this book on another blog and knew I wanted to make them.   These little dogs are crochet instead of knitted which is OK, I like to crochet but not as much as I do knitting. I'm still listening to this book, it has become a really interesting book. If you would like to know about the book I wrote about it here . Maybe by next week I'll one to show.

Egg Recipe # 30 Classic French Toast

This is how I was taught to make french toast when I was young. It is simple and a classic to me. You can make enough just for one or as many as you need to. My Classic French Toast Depending on the amount to be made, 1 large egg will make two slices. Serve 2 2 eggs 2 Tbsp milk 4 slices whole wheat bread Cinnamon   Whip eggs and milk in a bowl. Dip a slice of bread in the egg mixture and place in a hot skillet that has been sprayed with Pam or some sort of oil or butter. Sprinkle cinnamon on the bread Cook for a couple minutes and flip. It should be a toasted brown. Repeat with next two slices of bread. You can top with powder sugar, my favorite way. But you could use syrup, jam, sorghum or honey. Enjoy

Seeing Purple

Last week on my way back from stitch I stopped at  Ranalli Farms  on the west end of Tontitown, Arkansas, on Hwy. 412. I always find good fruits, produce and plants there. Well this time I came home with a bushel of apples and 1/2 bushel of Mars grapes.  They are a seedless grape,  color like concord but smaller. Which are very tasty. I also did not realize that a 1/2 bushel of grapes equal 18 lbs. That means I was searching for more than just a jam recipe. I first made Grape Catchup, this recipe is from one of my favorite blog, Foods In Jars. It is a sauce that is really nothing related to tomato catchup. It's more in the way of a plum sauce.  It is sweet and tangy with a kick of spice, very good. Suggested that it could be used as a dipping sauce, or a cooking sauce to put on chicken or pork. I think that is what I'll try first. http://www.foodinjars.com/2009/05/grape-catchup/ I have so many grapes I decided to make a double batch, boy I believe I have en

I've Been Converted, to Sauerkraut

So after all the nice, concerned and very helpful answer to my plea last week to know whether or not my sauerkraut was any good. I want to thank you. So this is what I decided.  See how it was discolored near the top.  I had never made my own before so I have no experience on what is good, bad, right or wrong. So with what I've read and the answers I received, I decided it was safe to eat. So I removed the discolored kraut and ate what was below. That was yesterday and we are here, fine  and  that was the best sauerkraut I have ever had. I have had only store bought in the past and did not like it. If I had know how yummy it was, I would of been making my own years ago. At stitch group the other day, Debbie was telling us about the sauerkraut she made for Joann and her husband. Joann had said it was so good. I made it last night and it was. You ought to try it. Here is Debbie's Recipe (She used a can of store bought) I used 3 cup of my sa

New List, just have to

I have a new look for my Things To Do List I find this one so much easier to do and read. Reminds me of being at school and how our assignments would be up on the chalkboard for us to do. And you had to do it or you'd get a bad mark, well I still do not want a bad mark, you know what I mean. I did not tell you how I did on last weeks to do list. With all the errands I had to attend to, that I forgot about it and posting this next weeks to do's also. Well as far as last week goes, I did get most of what I wanted done.  Finished planting fall crop  done Freeze potatoes and onions- did onions but still need to do potatoes Start repairs on hen house  did that by getting supplies needed Decorate front porch  What do you think              6.   Find and buy apples  done     7.   Get a hair cut  done but no photo for this,   PLEASE I was also able to get some other things done that I just did not have on the list but that always seems to happen. I can s
