Weekly Goal

Here it is week 11 already, can you believe that over 1/5th of the year has past. Just goes too quickly. My parents would and do say still now that after they turned fifty, time has just flew by. I think it starts earlier than that. Last week goal of getting my garden planted is done, at least with what needed to be done now or I have. I am going to write more on this later this week with pictures.  (as you can tell I love to use pictures)    So this week goal is to clean out this cabinet next to my sink. It's cluttered, has the wrong stuff in and I can put items in there I use more often and would just make more sense. Poor use of space.     As you can see I have my cookbooks and vitamins in there. Makeover is so needed. This year I have been focusing on purging stuff I don't use or bought with the thoughts "WHAT WAS I THINKING" This is one of those spots.

It's Monday....What's Up

Well I have a lot of things I need to take of this week and they are small things but enough of them to become a lot. To start with I have joined the Blog Hop    Nancy Drew is a Clue. I have links on the right side to check out who is showing today. My day is Thursday the 14th. I hadn't seen the fabric when I joined but I loved the books when I was young so I thought it would be fun. But the fabric (which I purchased a charm pack) is not what I would usually buy so it has been a defiant challenge to come up with a project.   I had made a few yo-yo's thinking I was going to try to make a quilt I had seen in McAllen Tx. but realized I did not have enough charms so I'm not sure now. I been thinking about a couple of other ideas, just haven't decided yet. I will have something by Thursday. Then I have my orange scrap container out and as you can see I do not have much orange,  who know I might get to use these all up. Its for the rainbow scrap challen

My Slow Sunday

Today has been a very relaxing, slow Sunday. The weather has been cold, rainy and a just stay inside day. So the "Man of the Place" and I finished our taxes, boy what a relief. Then the wild turkeys that have been coming around the house for the past month decided that a few of them wanted to just hang out and do some preening on our fence. Boy turkeys are big birds, I enjoy having them around to watch. You see I have a thing for turkeys besides eating turkey for Thanksgiving. I have a collection of Turkey Platters and a couple of Turkeys on the nest. They are not that easy to find in the antique s hops around here. I've seen them on ebay but haven't bought any. Any way back to my slow day,  For dinner I made Navy Beans with Ham Hocks and Cornbread using the Buttermilk I made . It what I call COMFORT FOOD.  Now for what I've been working on today is the socks I started this past Tuesday and I have to say for what little time I have spent knit

Making Buttermilk

: Have you ever try making your own cultured buttermilk? Once I had read about how it was done, I knew I just had to give it a shot. I use a lot of buttermilk in my cooking and baking and one of the things I like about it is the long shelf life it has for a dairy item. The way I did mine was to use some buttermilk that I had purchased at the store. I believe I read that there are powdered culture that can be used but it was easier for me this way. STEP 1.   Need to start with a clean and sterilized jar. I used a quart size.   STEP 2. Start with fresh milk and cultured buttermilk.  The fresher the better. If your buttermilk is older than 3 weeks it might not have enough active bacteria to give the results needed. I used 1% milk but that is because I wanted just a little fat in  my milk. Gives it a little richer flavor but you can use skim if you want. STEP 3. Add a bacterial starter of 6 to 8 ounces of active fresh cultured buttermilk to a clean quar

What's Cooking on the Prairie

Today is the link up over at  Judy's Patchwork Times  and the ingredients this time is Orange Juice. This is a recipe I have been making for some time that I found in one of Dr. McDougall's book. Next weeks challenge is Honey.  Sunbeam Tapioca 3 Tbsp Instant Tapioca 1 cup Pineapple juice 1 cup Orange juice 1 1/2 Tbsp Lemon juice 1/2 cup Canned Mandarin Orange Sections, drained 1 cup Canned Pineapple (crushed or Tidbits). drained Combine the instant tapioca, pineapple juice, and orange juice in a saucepan. Cook and stir over a medium heat until the mixture comes to a boil. Remove from heat; add the lemon juice. Cool, stirring occasionally. Add the fruit and chill until firm This is a tart dessert so if you add whip cream it sweetens it up some but I like it the way it is. W.W. points is 17 total and depending on how many serving you divide it up to give you pts. per servings.

Weekly Goal

It's amazing how I can take my good health for granted, get little done when your not up to par. I wasn't able to get all of  last week goals completed. So I thought about it and figured I was expecting to much of myself with 4 items. I'm going back to keeping it simple for myself and it's going to be only one goal for the week and that is to get my vegetable garden planted Wish my garden would looked like this.

Resting and Reading with a Little Knitting

I have been resting and reading about what I want to do when I'm back in shape. It is easier laying here seeing how it's winding and in the 40's today. So with a fire in the stove, something to drink and a comfy sofa I'm reading about vegetable gardening and apple trees. There is no better reading than seed catalogs. You can learn so much about what to plant, when to plant and tips of the trade. There are beautiful photos and very informative charts. If you are looking for some good catalogs yourself I have a list that I received from  Allan Storjohan . It is a lengthily list and has quite a few wonderful seed companies. Besides the veggie I'm looking for a couple of new apple trees. Come to find out my apple tree is a Lady Apple which is mainly a decorate small apple, very small used in table decoration and floral arrangements. Not what I what to have, so I'm thinking the Liberty apple. It is resistant to scabs , fire blight and cedar apple rust. S
