Half Square Triangles

Did what I said earlier and experimented with all the different ways I could find to make HST. Tried 7 different ways, some I have done before and the rest I haven't until now.  All worked out, made what I needed. As long as sewn a very close 1/4" I had no problems but we all know that doesn't always happen. I'll share a brief directions of what worked with each option I tried. I'll give links for where I found the directions that I used. That way this doesn't have to be pages long. First option was having two triangles to sew together. I have found that if they are slightly larger than suggested, I can trim down and the same goes with Option 2. Taking a 2 squares sewn together. Most instruction say to add 7/8" to the finish size to make the squares but I like to do an inch. That way I can again trim down if need to. Option 3 was making 4 at a time. Playing Catch Up

Since I was gone the month of May, that put me behind a month on making my circles for the boys I spy quilts.  I was able to get done 41 of them this month (June) but still put me a little behind.  Here's a closer look and I'm not sure what my total count is because I haven't counted them in a couple months.  Seeing how I'm making two quilts I just keep on making circles knowing that I need lots and lots and lots of circles. I have this pile here of such cute novelty prints to make circles out of, which keeps my enthusiasm going. I'm not sure if I will have to keep this up until November or if I can have enough circles made before that and start my quilt tops. Now this month colors for the RSC over at so scrappy is pink or as she put that hot pink and some lime. This will be great colors for another baby quilt.  I believe I will do it in 30's reproduction prints see'n ho

Feels So Good

It sure feels so good to have a finished project. Well semi finished I have the top done at least.  I finished constructing the Metro Twist this morning but not after having a few hiccups along the way.  When in the process of putting the units together made a mistake as you can tell from this picture, can you see it.  I constructed the block wrong. Had to get out the trustee seam ripper and reassemble.  Then came along the second hiccup, major hiccup. This had to do with my sewing machine. I could sew along till when the seams all came together when my thread would break. I'd rethread, tried again and it would work until I got to the next congested point where all the seams meant. Sure enough break again. I put up with this for about 10 rethreads and just about pulled my hair out when I said the heck with this.  So I unplugged the big expensive machine and put in my trusty old 1970s sears Kenmore. Sure enough that little workhors

Getting ready for the Fourth

Wanted to make a flag to put out as decoration last year but just didn't, can't remember why. So yesterday while in Tulsa to pick up my car from "the man of the place" work. Tuesday after the procedure, which was easy, quick and all successful, I left my car there because he was my driver home.  So while at his shop I spied some wood pallets. When he orders auto springs and such they are delivered on pallets. So he put the ones I picked put in his truck. This morning I went to painting the pallet. I taped spots that I did want painted, seeing how I'm using spray paint instead brush on paint. First did the white. Then the red Then the blue. Cut out a star stencil to use, the first one was a little too big so I made another smaller but still a little larger than the slat. OK still used it. Turn out just fine and later on when "the man of the place" get home he can help me put it up.   Our house sit

What's Up 06.28.16

Yesterday morning I wasn't feeling good, so I got a late start on things. Didn't have a chance to show what was up on my design wall. So I'll share now what I have up on the wall. I have all the units completed for the Metro Twist top. This is a Sew Kind of Wonderful pattern using their Quick Curve ruler. And it is a quick curve to assemble.  I can do these units without any pins. That's the joy of it. Now that I have all the units assembled now it's a matter of deciding placement of the units. I like to put them up on the wall, and then take a picture.  Then from the picture it give me a better perspective of balance of colored and contrast. I try not to fuss around too much on this, I can drive myself nuts with it. Since its a donation quilt and will not be  shown or judged in anyway, I'll go with what looks good. Not perfection Sometimes you can't get something perfect anyway no matter
