Sunday

Oh what a wonderful morning it is today in Northeast Oklahoma. Makes me want to just stay outside and find some sewing to do out on the back porch. Which is what I'm going to do.  While sitting here I see the container garden I started and realize I haven't written about how it faired this summer, I'll need to do that soon. Not now, it's Sunday. I was able to get the binding on this week for my gingerbread wall hanging,  and so I'm going to take time to enjoy this wonderful morning. Now I was earlier reading some of the links that are here at  Kathy's Quilt. And Kate over at Life in Pieces had a wonderful idea of what she was going to do with her Sunday, she called it her personal retreat day. I found that wonderful. Taking some time to yourself and doing a craft that you enjoy and maybe listen to music, maybe a podcast or a book maybe nothing at all, just nature. How often do we get to do that. I wish I could say I co

Yesterdays Class

Yesterday I attended a class given by Pam at Sager creek quilt shop in Siloam Springs. It was to be a fun class, nothing too complicated.  We were going to make 6 pointed stars using Sidekick ruler by  Jaybird's  and use the pattern from the same company called Sprinkles.  I had jellyroll strips to make my stars and then I cut 2 1/2" strips of white Kona for the background. Well since only two of us showed up, Pam had some free time in between instructions. I asked if she thought it was possible I could make Seven Sisters using this Sidekick. She did not know of any written instructions already, so during her free time while we were busy she was drafting up how we could use the same cuts we just made into a totally different pattern,  Seven Sisters. This pattern using the Sidekick ruler is meant to be sewn on the machine. There are no Y seams like when made with all diamond shapes. I'm using triangle in the back

A New Scone Recipe

I have a weakness for scones and have done pretty well not having them all the time. In fact I haven't made any this year. But on Mennonite Girls Can Cook  they have an Apple Pie Scone recipe that looked yummy and I broke. Had to make them, was going to yesterday after I got back from Tulsa but by the time I did we had a strong storm roll through. When there is lightening I have to unplug my modem and router, otherwise it can get fried. Which meant I could not get the recipe off their blog. So this afternoon after coming back from being at Sager Creek Quilt Shop for a class, I made them.  (I'll share the neat pattern we worked on tomorrow)  They were good so I thought I would share this with you. They say it's okay to as long as I give them credit and link back to them. And if you get a chance you might want to go mennonite girls can cook  because they have wonderful recipes and a large collections APPLE PIE SCONES 2 cups flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 c

What's Up 10.17.16

on the design wall is the same as it has been for the past couple of weeks, Words to Live By. I didn't do a thing on it today other than prep a section to sew. What I did do is trimmed 3 quilts for binding. My mind is on Christmas already. You see my daughters and their families will be here for the holidays. First time in ages, and being that is been a while I have to find the decorations. I haven't decorated in years and not sure if all will be fine. They have been stored in the crawl space above the garage and hope to get them down this weekend. Decided to start with the gingerbread quilt, have the strips cut  just need to press and attach. But before I can do that I needed to finish the last block of next months Farmers Wife Another paper pieced block, #97 Tracy. Using freezer paper this time all is going well except I did not receive enough of the dark purple print to finish it. I'll get tomorrow when I go to the shop.

I love Sundays

Sundays have always been a day of rest since I was a kid but not all Sundays can we rest.  Today was one of rest and it was nice to just take time to think and reflect. I can do that when I do mindless sewing and that is what I was doing today. In the Words to Live By quilt I did what the directions said but for some reason I did not have enough black and tan HST. Fixed up another 80 HST, sewn and trimmed them today. Now I'm ready to finish the boarders now. While doing that I was looking around the room and thinking about what I wanted to put back in here and where. Notice the shelf with a little fabric on it that hadn't been wrapped around the boards I have. Took a little time to do about half of the stack.  I wrap only pieces that are larger than 1/2 yard and up to 4 yds. If they are 4 yards or more I use the boards they use at quilts shops. They will give them to you if ask, otherwise they just trash them.  Wh

4th Quarter FAL

Today I remembered (for once) that this is the deadline to post any finishes over at She Can Quilt that I want/plan to complete by the end of the year.  I have no problem finding incomplete projects around here, in fact after moving all the stuff out of the sewing room I found so many projects I forgot about.  I found boxes with everything ready to make.  Couple years ago gather patterns and fabric to make Christmas gifts. Never did as you can tell, so it's some of my goals for this quarter.  Along with theses I have a few quilts that need binding. 2 are Christmas quilts and the other 2 are gifts. Here are the choices,  This is a quilt I've seen online, at a quilt show and in a magazine and each time I did it was always the same thought, I want to make this quilt. So I gather the stuff and that is as far as I had gotten. I don't believe it's a difficult quilt to do. I love the backing fabric I found. This pattern reminds me of winte
