On a Roll

Have you heard the one about your on the way to the garden and you get distracted by a messy garage.  Well that is what happen to me.  Since I'm trying to get stuff taken care of before I leave, I realized that it's not just the garden I need to attend to but the potted plants I have around the porches. Which means I need a place to put them in to protect from the cold.  The dream of a greenhouse is still a dream so until then it's the garage....hence the cleaning. Enough of the depressing stuff lets see what did get completed Put the border on the big orphan block. Done...ready to quilt...another one to practice on.. Did another Farmer's Wife. A paper piece one. Getting better at it, and by the time we're finished with the book I might be able to say I think I know a little about how to.  And you never know I might even like it. Maybe

So much to do

Even thou I was able to get some gardening in you can see by the picture there is so much to do and I have little time to do it right now.  For some reason this year I just could not keep up with the growth of weeds. Then on top of that, some of the veggies just didn't preform like they should of. My guess is the cooler temps in early summer, then above normal rainfall in the summer. So now it's getting close to our first frost and Grammy needs to be leaving to go visit the "little dudes" Plans are to tend to harvesting whats left before I go and then worry about most of the clean up when I get back. Was able to get one block made from The Farmer's Wife 1930's book and went looking for the pink fabric used in this block but had no luck. Did find the green so I guess I'll use that. Think all white border might be a little to plain seeing how it needs at least a 6' border just to make it 36". Woul

Making Progress

I have been able to make a little progress last night and this morning. I finished the rest of the cross stitching, plus was able to even do the little snowflake block.  So this morning I trimmed up the block and made 4 churn dash blocks. They're little filler blocks.  Now I can say block 3 is completed and it's on to the last, block 4. I didn't get all the Farmer's Wife blocks done like I was wanting. My goal was to get the 6 blocks done so I could drop them off at the quilt shop on my way to meet my friends. We try to get together at least a couple times a month to visit and stitch. Was able to get 4 blocks completed, took these to the shop. When we meet someone usually has a finish quilt to show and this time Joan had a beautiful one,. As a group project we decided to make the Pea Ridge Lily.  I have mine done. Pam had hers done  and now Joan does too. Plus it's quilted and bound. I believe

Back to it

Yesterday after I finished the string quilt, I took a break from the sewing machine and did some quilting and some embroidering. I put Doc Martin on Netflix and did some hand quilting.  Was able to finish this one block  and now I'm ready to start on this one. Finally I can start seeing the end. That's only because I'm being pretty persistent about getting in some quilting at least every other day I have only these two big blocks to do. And some smaller ones that are fillers. Then of course the border. I normally quilt during the day because in the evening after "The Man of the Place" gets home I try to spend time visiting and catching up on our day. So if I do hand  work it's usually something that I don't really have to pay to close attention to or if not too cumbersome. Did worked some on the Scandinavian Christmas  I'm doing a Crosstitch around the outside of the

Another Zucchini Recipe and Sewing

I'm not sure if I'm boring you with another zucchini recipe or if you are like me and have an abundance of them that you are desperate for many way to use them up beside sharing them with others  So again I went online in search of a cookie that I hadn't made yet and I could send to "the little dudes". So after the Grandpa test, which by the way got 2 thumbs up, I packed them up and sent them priority mail. They should get them Friday along with the kaleidoscopes and Thomas the train cars. Here is the link to the recipe I used. They are moist and not overly sweet, perfect for the boys. Plus I was able to sneak in a little vegetable. I am loving this break from the heat and humidity. We had a cold front move in with some rain. Its 12:00 right now and only 67 outside. Just wonderful. After it stops raining I'm going to spend as much time as I can outside as possible. But until then I'm working on getting more done on the Red Stri

Farmers Wife and Road Trip

Before I left, yesterday I finished one of next month set of blocks for the 30's club Here is April and was hoping to do another one but I needed to pick veggies and put them up. Had 20 lbs. of tomatoes to do. Cleaned and packed my bag. Downloaded a book to listen to, another Donis Casey's book. Bringing some knitting and a new project of hand piecing. Found this quilt at a antique shop a few years ago. Loved it but it was in pretty bad shape so I didn't purchase the quilt. After playing around on EQ, I came up with a pattern. Then some time after that I had seen a post on Tim's blog about a pattern he purchase that was published in 1929. It was the same pattern, called Tree of Temptation. Have a few blocks cut out and I will work on those.

1930's Farmers Wife Sampler

Last Tuesday was the 30's club at Sager Creek Quilt Shop and was the first meeting where we are starting   Laurie Aaron Hird's Farmers Wife 1930 Sampler and here is our fist 5 blocks We had twice as many attending, then we had before and it was wonderful.  The ones who's been attending this year were ready with their RSC15 blocks they made for the past months.  This quilt is one of our past 30's quilt. Eiko made it like just the pattern. Very beautiful isn't it.  Now I have finished mine and it is almost finished quilted but I changed it a little. Instead of the floral basket and went with a row of cottages. I going to add clouds and I'm thinking of clumps of grass beneath the the houses and in-between. Then it will be done. I just love the look of hand quilting...... especially on the back. linking up to  so scrappy
