What's Up 3.20.17

Here it is the first day of spring and here in Oklahoma the predicted temperature for today is 90. That is just too early for being this hot, I'm not ready for summer heat, it's just the first day of spring. It's been a couple weeks since I last wrote and some good and bad events have happened. Right now I'm just going to focus on the good. Last week I was able to go on a mission trip with my church to Kansas City. I was able to help out in a Community Kitchen   and it was a great experience. If you live near Kansas City they are always in need of volunteers and the link tells you about their mission and how to contact them. Seeing how I've been gone I have done very little sewing. Up on the wall is the blocks I started back in 2015 for the RSC that year.  The pattern is Thimble Blossoms by  Red Letter Day These are the color choices I picked for the last blocks I'm making 16 blocks and have 5 left to do. All the prints are

Time Flys

It's hard to believe it's been two weeks since I last wrote.  I have been very productive tho. I was able to complete my string quilt and love how it turned out.  Can't say that it made a dent in the strips. I also machine quilted the turquoise baby quilt. Nothing fancy just some straight lines and waves around the outer border. Now it's ready to be given away. Now I can say Yeah!!!!! The Farmer's Wife 1930 quilt is done. I did a different setting than the book and didn't use all the blocks I made. I'll have to find something else to use the remaining ones. Turned out OK Measures out to be 86 x 93.  So now on the design wall is my OMG for this month  it is one of the RSC I started in 2015 Have 10 blocks but I'll need six more to go.  Linking up with elm street quilts

Making Progress

I have been working on last year RSC and I can say as of now I have 2 completed from last years group and this month's done too. Still working on last months. I have not worked on it very much but it on the top of my list now.  My curvy log cabin turned out nice. As you can tell I don't have all the colors in this one only 5 months but I also have to confess I never made all of them either.  So that worked out good. Don't think I'll add any border, like the way it is. It measures 80 x 65' nice twin size.  It will be perfect for a kid.  The nine patch I finished earlier this week and plans are to practice machine quilting on it and all the baby quilts I make this year. My goal is to get 100 hours in. I better get busy cause I haven't put in any yet.  I also finished this month. Same plans on finishing it.  I'll give them to the guild to be donated.  Linking up at   so s

What's Up 02.08.16

I'm tired from not  just having one project up on the design wall but a rotation of projects. Started out this morning with this month's RSC.  I went straight to changing out the walking foot I had on the machine for attaching the binding to the 30's Sampler. Which by the way I am halfway done sewing it down.  After changing the foot I sewn on the rest of the border, now it completed and ready to sandwich. After that I started putting up last years RSC's  I had 5 different quilts patterns, so started to see what was needed to finish them. The nine patch is ready so went ahead and put it together. Now this one too is ready to quilt. The curvy log cabin has plenty of blocks, just need to put it up on the wall in the layout I want, which I'm not sure yet. Spool blocks I think there are enough, now just need to decide if I will lay them side by side, have a sashing or alternate block to separate the spools. Guess it

Scrappy Saturday

I had been sewing off and on all week and trying to finish the small list I had made Monday. I had these leftover from the month of bright green that needed to be completed. Done now Plus I have another block completed for this months RSC. You don't see many brown reproduction 30's fabrics but since I have been collecting 30's fabric for many years there was a couple of prints I could choose. I really liked this one. Still working on the other blocks for brown. Linking up to so scrappy

What's Up Oct 12

Here it is Monday already and "The Man of The Place" had to go back to work and life for me is back to the usual. After a morning of taking care of the plants and animals. Then a few phone calls to take care getting the propane tank filled and towing a truck to the shop, I can now write about what is up on the design wall.   Seeing how "The Man of The Place" was home all week, I have up the same thing I did the week before.  Two baby quilts started. Both are patterns by Sew Kind of Wonderful using the Quick Curve Ruler. Did locate some brown fabric for this months color for RSC15 Started cutting today and the intentions are to get whats up on the wall and the blocks for this months color finished by then of the week. I think that's doable. Linking up with .patchwork times love laugh quilt what a hoot quilts http://bambisyr-evaj.blogspot.com/ cooking up quilts

The good life

Some days you think life could not get any better. This weekend was one of those. It was quiet which gave me time to reflect on my life.  What I've done, where I've been, where I'm at and where I see myself in the future but not just myself my family too. That's what sewing does for me sometimes, give me that quiet time to think and reflect. So this weekend I was able to have enough time to finish my RSC 15 blocks.  And finish prepping the Words to Live By  blocks and if Scandinavian Christmas that I have been working on off and on all week.  I had also given it some thought about a couple projects I had started and where I see myself going with those.  And decided that instead of making a full size quilt out of the twisted blossom block I'm just going to make a baby quilt. Using this Grey and turquoise.   So today I will spend part of it cutting out what I need to make this baby quilt and another.

Seeing orange

I here it is the middle of September and I just started this month color orange for RSC 15 To think that this is the 3rd Saturday that So Scrappy has had her link up.  Didn't spend that much time working on this, got side tracked with watching an episode of Doc Martin and quilting some.  Finished this small block And now on to this portion.  I have already been thinking about patterns for next years RSC. Seeing how I haven't really made a dent in my stash or scraps. I think I might attempt something different. I'm thinking I might do is make one baby quilt a month in the color chosen. That way would end up being 11 small quilt for the year. And thinking I'll even go a step further and attempt practicing machine quilting on each one. I didn't do that the first time I had  done making one baby quilt a month Just now thinking about it, the thought of having say three patterns to pick
