Slow Sunday

I'm linking up with Kathy sharing what I'm slowly working on and I mean slowly. I wish I could say I'm a fast quilter but that would be a fib. I love hand quilting, I love the calm process, I love the look and the softness of a hand quilted quilt. Have made a little progress and could do better if I would just spend more time at it  Finished this portion and now I'm working on this part Bob is helping of course.  I just think he wanted to photo bomb my pic. Here is another angle. Then while relocating the hoop I noticed this spot. Not sure when or how it happen. I don't even know what it is. I do not remember having a prick or cut while quilting. It could be a drop of coffee, that I have had.  Not sure how to handle it.  Should I try to remove now even thou I don't know long its been there or just wait. And what should I use. As you can tell this is the first time I have had this happen to a quilt I'm wo

A Little Progress

It's the same story, hot and humid. In fact its a little more intense but the weather is to change this weekend and I'm looking forward to spending more than just an hour or two outside. But while I'm stuck inside, I am taking this opportunity to getting a little progress on a few projects. The second Ruby's garden is almost ready to assemble. Lacking just 8 of the smaller outer blocks.  Now by making the center unit in the alternate block lighter sure gives it a different look. I like it but at first I didn't. I liked how the first one turned out but this started to grow on me while I was adding block up on the wall. My plan is to get this one finished tomorrow... making it maybe my Friday Finish. I spent some time today quilting. Was able to watch 2 more episodes of Mr. Selfridge. I was thinking that I probably get more done if I wasn't looking up all the time watching TV. Finished this portion  and this pa

Finially some hand quilting

I told myself this morning that seeing how it was going to be so blasted hot and humid... humidity at 84% right now.... that I would just take a break today and not do anything but water my seeds and come back in.  Can I do that!!!! Oh no, took my walk and planted some herbs and lettuce. It's like once I get outside I just can't stop, Not until the heat gets to me and I'm almost falling over. Which a day like today wouldn't take very long. So after a shower and lunch I spent the afternoon quilting. I've been trying to do a little each day but sometime that just doesn't happen. Today I spent a good part of the day quilting and watched a few episodes of Mr  Selfridge. I'm now on season 2 and enjoying every one of them. I was able to finish this part and moved my hoop and completed this part. And now I'm on to this part.  I'm over halfway done,  this half is completed and this half i

Been One of Those Days

It's been one of those days when you plan on doing one thing and end up doing something totaly different. First of all I planned on  writing this morning when I am better at it but that is also when I have the most energy. My plan was to work outside for a while, then come in and write. Well I didn't work outside because it looked as those it would rain. So then I started putting around the house and couldn't stop. By the time I did, it was lunch time. Sat down to have a sandwich and play around with our new TV. Our old (22 yr) TV finally went caput. Being that its a smart TV we get internet programs like Netflix and Amazon. Starting looking up shows and found I could watch a PBS Masterpiece Classic "Endeavor"  You can see where this going can't you. I ended up watching season 2, all 4 episodes. Now mind you it wasn't a total waste of time. I did do some quilting and crocheting. I have started my Christmas gifts and these are cotton pads to remove

Back in The Thimble again

It seems like a lifetime since I have done any hand quilting. With working on the stockings the past few months, that took away the evenings for quilting. I like to quilt while sitting with "The Man of the Place" in the evening. And in the summer I just don't have much sitting around in the evening like in the winter. That's another reason why I love the winter.  This is the quilt we made in our 30's Club at Sager Creek a couple years ago. And I had started quilting on last year.  I'm using a wool batting and really do love quilting it. It is like they said, "just like quilting through butter". I'm doing an 1/4 inch outline quilting around the majority of the blocks.   I believe I might have about 5th of it completed. I'm using Roxanne needles #11 They are a strong needle, which I need because I have a tendency  to bend my needles. I believe it is because I like to load 4-5 stitches on my needle at a time.  Do you re

Making Progress

I am so excited that I am finally finished appliqueing on this piece. Now its on to doing the embroidery on it. There will be a lot of stitching to be done. This afternoon I marked where needed.   I used a water erasable marker, I like the Fine Marker-Blue  Chako Ace  pen. I have had very good luck with it washing out of the fabric.  Now there will also be stitching on each of the leaves but didn't bother to mark. I can probably just wing it.   When I was on the bus trip last month there was a shop that carried Cosmos Floss. No one around here  sells this thread so I'm looking forward to stitching with it. I have heard that it is so smooth and leaves a beautiful stitch. I'll let you know what I  think about it. I have 2 variegated skeins.  I'll use on the right for the leaves and the other one I'll use on the stems (left). Now if I wasn't trying to do so many different projects at the same time and just stick to one, I could have this

Let's talk Hand Quilting

I wanted to talk a little about hand quilting. I love to quilt and for some reason I have always gravitated toward quilts that are hand quilted. Do you too. I would  think about all those stitches taken by some women and wonder what was going on in her life while she was stitching. Then think about the love felt while laying under a hand quilted quilt. I am pleased to know I'm not alone, thank goodness there are others with this passion also and who are keeping it vital part of the quilting world. There are two blogs dedicated to hand quilting and the quilters. Caron has two blogs, first one is Michigan Quilts  and the other one that just started celebrate hand quilting . So part of the reason for this post is that I can join in with other hand quilters and share all things hand quilted. I have so many more tops that I has finish then quilts I have quilted, but here are a few I have done. The quilt pictured at the top is the one I'm currently working on. This was la
