How to make a T-Shirt Necklace/Scarf

Last month before I came to California I was at the Muskogee Quilt Show and one of the workshop offered was how to make a scarf from an old T-Shirt. Anything that has to do with recycling just get my interest, so I just had to go check it out. Now it was the one of easiest and cool idea I've seen in a while. I had never seen anything like this but when I went toYouTube I found there are a few video on how to make one but they were different then the way I was shown. What you will need is a T-Shirt that has no side seams. My shirt is an XLG.   You will cut off the hemmed bottom  Then you will need to cut strips 1 inch wide. Now I did mine with a rotary cutter but you could use scissors  I ended up with 15 strips, but it will vary with the shirt you used.  Now you will stretch the strips and when you do they will roll.  See, it rolls into a rope like look.  This is what mine looked like when all have been stretch. Now when you have y

Some Really Good Days

I have had a couple of good and productive days here on the farm but they had little sewing involved. More in the way of getting ready for when the rain stops and I can get back out there in the garden  So I started my sweet potatoes, I have wrote about how to start your own plants last year  here .  I did not plant my potatoes last weekend because I figure the weatherman could be right about the rain  we're to receive and they were right. We have had 8.5" in the past few days. So I'm getting my potatoes ready by laying them out in the light, this is called "chitting" or "greening". This will lead to a stronger plant, earlier harvest and heavier yield. What you do is a week or two before planting, spread  your seed potatoes in a shallow, open top box or I just used newspaper. Lay them in a warm spot that has bright light but not direct sun. The warmth will cause the eyes to sprout while the light keeps them stubby and less prone to breakage.

My Turtle Pincushion Collection

I have been off the the grid here all week. It's not because of anything technical, its just that I have been busy doing heaven knows what. I have nothing to show for all my busyness. So I thought I would share my pincushions I have collected. "The man of the place" loves turtles and because he loves them I figure I would share in his love.  I believe in if I am to collect anything, it has to be something that is hard to find so that way I will not end up with a lot of it. I just do not have the room Plus I hate to dust. Here is some of my turtles,  His head and tail bobs up and down. I think this one is a french turtle, the hat. Me and "the man of the place", so sweet isn't it. This one is only 2 inches long. So cute. I am always on the look out for more. Till next time Kat =^..^= Linked this to Vintage Thingie Thursday

We Know Now

My daughter found out yesterday what she is going to have, and it's not one of each Boy/Girl but BOY! OH BOY! Bless her heart she is going to have two little guys and boy will she have her hands full. One thing about about most boys, they look after their Moms. I think it's that protector mode they have. I can't wait, I had 3 girls myself so this will be all new for me too. Now I'm on the look out for boy related things to make. Any ideas, I would love to hear them.

So Disappointed

Today I received my Christmas present via FedEx. You see I was given a new laptop from "the man of the place". I was so excited to see it come, sometime I just find it hard to wait. But I did and now it was time to retire this one It was a good computer and I have spent a lot of hours on it. But it just does not run very well, slow and then it also has been not responding way too much.   Then there is the issue of the cord, it's so worn that it will fall out so I got some of the great stuff, "Duct Tape" but doesn't it look terrible. So I have a new Dell Sort of, I do and then I don't. Isn't it pretty, has a bigger screen and way so much more power and memory But It's damaged. That little black piece on the paper is the piece thats broken and unfortunately the other half is inside the laptop. All I can do is just look at it. I guess I could try it out but I would be afraid I would really mess it up and I woul

Oh My, What am I Going to do

Oh my, I just received this email from Sentimental Stitches and she had posted about a new mystery quilt she is going to start in January along with Brenda P (Dear Jane). I just love the idea they are going to do. It iwill be  a 2 color quilt. Can get no better than that. The idea was inspired by Red and White exhibit  of Joanna Sernel Rose's collection of quilts this past year in New York  I so wanted to go see that exhibit and was unable to. All the pictures I have seen are just amazing.and make me drool, need a bib each time I look.  And now there is an app I just came across a couple of days ago you can put on you iPhone or ipad or android. On Gay's new blog you will find the links to download, plus they are free (at least the iPhone was, I don't know about the others). You need to get it, it's just wonderful. Inspiration any time, like when your sitting waiting why not look at some quilts . I really need to curb my enthusiasm, I have just gotten done

Festival Of Trees

I have meant to put this out here for a couple of weeks, but I am like so many right now trying to get ready for Christmas besides dealing with daily life. If you haven't yet gotten your tree up or you are looking for new, neat ideas, maybe I have a few for you. At our church we have an annual Festival of Trees where others donate a decorated tree or Christmas idem to be auctioned off. Proceeds go for the angel tree and holiday food baskets. So much fun to see all the creative trees that are offered. This tree is made with Christmas stories and small items. They photo copied Christmas book covers on card stock. This tree has a cowboy theme. Bandanna bows, cow bells, little cowboy hats and jute cord to be garland which gives the look of rope. We had our UMW cluster meeting that weekend so Fern McFarland made these peppermint place mats for all the tables. So cute, and the tables also had added decorations with peppermints candy.  This tree was decorated
