For the love of eggs

Lately "the girls" are on a roll, I collected 14 eggs today. A month ago I was getting just an egg a day. I have been thinking about what has change, and first thing I thought of was they all  stopped molting,  plus the daylight hours are getting longer each day, even thou temps have been getting cooler to the most part and other than that, that's all I can think of. But no matter what the reason I'm sure enjoying have a good supply of fresh eggs. But I have been dealing with  the past couple of days of a hen eating eggs.  How many,  I'm guessing just one.  There are many reason why hens will eat their eggs. The shell could be soft or thin and break. I do not think that is the reason  because I have not been finding any plus normally in the winter the shell are thicker. Lack of protein or calcium in their diet. Oyster shells are a good addition and I do need to add some. I ran out a while back but their shells are thick and hard right now. I&

Hodge Podge Monday

That is how I feel this morning, I have a hodge podge of thoughts in my mine. For family and friends, they know I live with my to do list/clip board and if I do not have it I'm lost. I'm sitting here this morning trying to get my idea of what I need to do today and this coming week and all I have a cluttered mess in my head. I'm afraid my post is going to reflect that also. First this is what's up on my wall and whats on my table And these projects will also go on my to do list and I going to put it out there. 1. Finish putting the sampler together   2. Start Morris Meadows by Michelle Hill 3. Finish cleaning out the pantry 4. Do some more quilting on my 30's quilt. That's my short list Now I have a question about the stash report, I started this year but really not sure about what can be counted as usage. Can we count UFO's we are working on? If you can leave an answer in comments or email me, I would gr

Buttermilk Pie; Egg Recipe 3

When thinking about what egg recipe to make this week I was wanting to try something new, something easy and a dessert.  I have heard about Buttermilk Pies but had never made one before. So I started looking for one and one thing I've learned is that most of Paula Deen recipes are just too good. I little on the rich side but very good. So I decided to change it some. I have a habit of doing this to make it just a little healthier and lower in Points (weight watchers  6 pts. 1/8 pie)  Oh my Gosh, it is sooooo gooood !!!!!!!!!  The "man of the place" said "It's good and we need more"   ***** Olivia's Buttermilk Pie Recipe courtesy Paula Deen Prep Time: 5 min Inactive Prep Time: -- Cook Time: 50 min Level: Easy Serves: 6 to 8 servings Ingredients                                                                                                         1 1/2 cups sugar    (I change to 1 cup) 1 cup buttermilk

How to needle turn on your machine

I had very briefly mentioned a product I use when I do an invisible style machine applique the other day and I am going to go into some detail on how. I do this needle turned look on my sewing machine. I have not invented anything new I was shown this technique by my friend Pam of  Sager Creek Quilt Shop . Also if you want to find any of these products you can purchase them there online from her shop. OK  let me get started here, I am taking part of a bee over at S tash Bee  and in our hive we were asked to make Sunni a tree block so this is mine  To help me get the fabric to turn under is this paper by Ricky Tim. It's your pattern, template, you keep it on your fabric when you sew it down and you leave it in when done. When wet or washed it becomes a soft layer of polyester fibers.   You will also need a few other items. Paper and fabric scissors, pencil for marking, glue stick (acid-free & water-solvable) I like Elmer's school purple. It is smooth, covers

What a Feathered Surprise

This morning I went out to the back porch to get a few pieces of wood to put in the stove. We heat our home only by the wood stove that we have in the living room. So during the winter it is a chore I do hundreds of times. Since it was the first time this morning that I had gone outside the cats, Pete and Buddy made a mad dash out the door. I was grabbing a piece of wood when I noticed something out of the corner of my eye, Buddy had spotted a chickadee and scared it. In its panic it flew into the house because I had the backdoor open. Poor little thing, it was scared and was flying around the living room. Very poor picture,( iPhone) Needless to say this had the cats all excited, running around following the bird. I was dumb founded on what to do. I left the door open hoping it would just fly right back out. No, it was confused and would keep flying in circles and landing wherever possible. One time it landed way to close to where the cats could make a jump at it, s

It's Monday

So it is Monday and I have been working on what was up on my wall last week. I am really looking forward to getting it off my wall. Making progress and I should be done with it hopeful this week. Six more blocks to go I'm using Ricky Tim's Stable Stuff and will be doing invisible machine appliqueing. I like how it looks like I needle turn them and I do not have to worry about fraying. I'm linking this to What a Hoot

Egg Recipe 2

This is the second recipe, with fifty more to go for the year. This is how I make Frittata's and if you google for recipes there are 100's of them out there. Once I learned the basic way of making them I realize that you can get as creative as you like, using what you have on hand. And since I have challenged myself to use as much from the pantry without going to the grocery store, this recipe is perfect. The basic items needed are an oven proof pan, I use a cast iron skillet Eggs, at least 6, I figure 2eggs per person is a good way to figure, but I do use more for a couple of reasons, I like to have this as leftovers the next day and since I have a good supply of fresh eggs, I need to find dishes to use them up on. Meat, usually a pork product; bacon, ham, sausage or it could be any other type of meat. Could be something leftover that you have a small amount of because you only need around 1/2 cup. Vegetables and it could be anything on hand. You can make one
