Rose Prairie Quilts and Farm

I can finally say I finish the Christmas String quilt. Just in time to be finish for this months Git-R-Done. My first one and what 3 days left in the month.  All I need now is to get a backing for it.  Now for the big head and its not me.  Some of the veggies in the garden are getting ready to be harvested. Been a slow start this growing season with a late freeze and the delay of  getting the plants in the ground. Plus I missed out on the first main harvest of my broccoli but was able to get second and third pickings. But happily right now some of the cabbage is ready to harvest. This is my first head of cabbage and its a biggie. Almost 10 inches across and a few oz. short of 6 lbs.  I see sauerkraut making in my near future.

  It has been a while since I last shared what my weekly goal is. Seeing how I was gone off and on the past two months, which seemed to just mess up my routine (doesn't take much). I've been so busy trying to get caught up on chores around the farm my weekly goal would of been a page long. Now that I'm getting closer to where I need to be with the chores, I started thinking about projects that I want to do and not ones that needed to be done. This is one job I have been meaning to get to but I'd  get busy with planting and tending to the garden and I would tell myself I will do the later. I've been keeping my seed in baggies inside a plastic container that I keep in the freezer. It is a good way to store your seeds. They will last longer that way and I have some seeds from  1999. So don't you think it's about time I go through them. I have been using them all whether the seeds were for this year or 1999. It's like an experiment, s

Wanted to show you some more of the quilts that were featured at the  Minnesota Quilt Show. This is a  Twin Cities Quilt   Exhibit. I loved the looks of these quilts, now to me they are scrap/strip quilts. Now there could be more to it than that but that is what I saw. What do you see?

Can't believe it's Monday already. Here is the start of a new week and I have so much I would love to be able to accomplish this week. To start off that list, is this string Christmas quilt I have been working on. I am down to the border, and I haven't decided what it is I want to do on the outside edge of the border. Do I want to leave it plain and just have the binding as the edge fabric.  Or do I want to add a strip of the background fabric, what I would call the background fabric, the light colored fabric all around the edge. What do you think? This is one of the four Get-R-Done's that I had thought I would do this month. I have not yet  posted   what my four were and always meant to. But somehow time got away from me this month. It just  flew by.  So this one, plus my candy wrapper, and the quilt I'm working on for my daughter that I'm quilting are 3 out of 4. Today has been a very slow day, I guess it's because of the it is hot out and all I want to do it is veg inside. I have two things I have to work on while sitting in the cool house. I'm getting right along on quilting my daughters quilt.   I notice that one of the fabrics show light in the pictures, but not in person. When I get tired of quilting I can sewing on my other daughters quilt, called Candy Wrapper. Do you notice something odd about one of the rows? Yes I did it again, sewn it together wrong. I don't know how I manage to get it backwards. I had thought after the first time I had been more watchful of how it was arranged. Oh well what could be slower than ripping stitches out. Such a fun pattern. Piecing by hand is very relaxing.

Tonight will be the last time to see the "supermoon" for this year.   Which means the moon is  it closest  to Earth. Lisa over at Fresh Eggs Daily has been showing pictures she takes at her farm and then posts them weekly. I have been seeing her pictures all this time and then for some reason I thought I could do something similar. I have this new camera and have not yet learned to use it. I just  keep taking pictures with my IPhone. I do well using my phone but I so do want to learn this new camera. To challenge myself I will try to learn my camera and post the pictures as I learn. I'm not going to pressure myself with a deadline, just a goal to learn how. This time though these are taken on my IPhone. Summer is here on the farm and the old house has stood for another year.
