Week 2 & 3 on porch veggies

I meant to give an update last week but for some reason I can't stop writing about other stuff and kept putting off my update for week two.  Have had tremendous success so far with my container garden on the back porch. I reseeded the lettuce and as you can see it's coming up and we now have a full pot baby lettuce. Need to start thinning out the first seedlings, not going to throw them away thou, I'm going to rinse them off and put them in my salad, it's having micro greens. It's time to start also another batch of radishes. I seem to have a hard time with radishes. They come up but sometimes a portion of them do not bulb up. Need to look that up and find out why. The eggplants has flowered and now can see what looks like developing eggplant.  The parsley it's coming up but see no signs of the chives germinating. The tomatoes are getting big and blooming. Really surprised how well these volunteered tomatoes

What's Up 07.11.16

I hope you're not tired of this yet but I have more progress to report on the "Words to Live By" Yesterday I corrected the mistake I made and fused down the remaining pieces to the center block. I can say now that, all I have to do is blanket stitch and do a little embroidering That black fabric is all cut, setting squares and the HST.  I still have a few other blocks and you can tell from this picture with the vacant spots for the smaller 12 1/2 inch blocks. Still need to do some detailed embroidered on them. I don't have all the setting triangles cut out on my design wall, it's not as big as my quilt it is. I want to redo the design wall. That is one of the things I would like to do after the carpet is laid, being that all the stuff will be out of the room.  One that goes from the ceiling to the floor, right now I have a gap in both areas. I've also started on the half square triangles I ha

Love Sundays

I love Sunday for so many reasons and one is spending time with "The Man of the Place". We don't see enough of each other.  A lot of our time is sitting and talking or watching movies or something, that's a great time for hand work. Last night while watching the finale of Outlander I was working on this block. By looking at it, it just didn't quite looked balanced, missing something. Oh crap, a set of berries. Looked at the picture  and sure enough I left them out, how can that be. Funny how we see what we think is correct. That means I'll need to remove and move these pieces over to the right to make room for the berries I left out.  Now I haven't done much ripping out of an appliqued piece, especially wool. Thank goodness the wool is of very good quality, very little stretch.  Plus using Soft Fuse on this made it come off nicely and surprisingly I was able to refuse it down. That is what I

Finally Decided

It's been 5 years, 1 month and 9 days This comes with my deepest gratitude for all who have been coming by.   Never thought I would still writing all this time. Meant to celebrate on the actual date but I wanted to be able to do something special for you.  I have thought and thought about it but everything I think of is so blab, blab, blab. Then I figure I'm not a very exciting person, just average I guess. First it was a gift basket of quilting patterns and gadgets. Then I thought well not everyone is a quilter. Ok how about a gift certificate to The Fat Quarter Shop, that way if you are into other sort of textile crafts that would work. But what about other fibers like yarn. So I thought a certificate to the yarn shop I go to, Loops in Tulsa. What if the person wasn't into fibers but like to garden or chickens or ........ That's when I just thought about doing like the first anniversary  and give a gift certificate from amazon    BUT M

Looking Like Something

Making some progress on this month goal. I trimmed up the appliqué blocks to 12 1/2 inches and started cutting the setting triangles that will be attached to the appliquéd blocks.  I'm getting excited, it's starting to look like the quilt it's supposed to be.    I've also started on prepping for the HST. I'm going to do the eight at a time method but I think I will do that but times 3.  Marking this rectangle on the wrong side of the light fabric just like you would on the "8 at one time" but will add 2 more sections,  off a little on the right, pay no attention to that, it will work out. like so. Not sure what I'll get done today seeing how I need to go back to Tulsa and drop off some wood and carpet samples that I had picked up on Wednesday. We've narrowed it down to a couple choices for wood. The carpet it's just a matter of getting the right color we like.  So I'm trying to work quickly on

FAL Q2 Finishes

When I realized that the second quarter of the FAL over at Sew Can Quilt was over and everyone were posting their finishes, I thought to myself "I did it again, another 3 months have gone by and I've done other projects other than the ones I posted that were priority. But it was just now as I was thinking about should I just go ahead and repeat last quarters list  (link to the list) when it dawn on me that I do have one finished.  It's a knitted item, one of the Fringeworthy scarfs I've made.     Started and finished this back in April .  It was a simple and fun project to knit. I feel so much better now linking my finish at  she can quilt

My July OMG

Yesterday I was in Tulsa most of the day looking for new flooring samples to bring home. I'm narrowing down what looks good with the existing  woodwork I have in my home. Have the plushness decided now it's the color of the carpet. Linoleum I have already decided on. Becuase being gone, I did no sewing yesterday. But I do want to share what my OMG goal for this month. I found out about the OMG at Red Letter Quilts about a month ago, after I had gotten back from the boys. This is the first time I will be participating and giving myself this one month goal. If not like I haven't given myself goals in the past but first for this. So I'm being very ambitious and devoted to finishing my "Words to Live By quilt.  I pretty much have all the appliquéd blocks completed but still need to do some embroidery detail and a little bit more on my center block. That means after that is putting in all the setting triangles and making t
