Yarn Along

It is Wednesday which means that Ginny at Small Things is having a link up for lovers of books and things made by knitting or crocheting. I do not get a chance to post every week but I try as much as I can to go there each week to see what others are reading and making. I have come across new  books to read and new projects to make or put on my "things to do in the future list
(me and my lists)
So the book I am listening to now is a true story that takes place during the Great Depression here in the States.

Book Description

October 25, 2011
"A wonderful reminder that economic hardship can bring suffering but can also foster compassion and community." -The Boston Globe
In hard economic times like these, readers will find bestselling author Ted Gup's unique book uplifting as well as captivating. Inside a suitcase kept in his mother's attic, Gup discovered letters written to his grandfather in response to an ad placed in a Canton, Ohio, newspaper in 1933 that offered cash to seventy-five families facing a devastating Christmas. The author travels coast to coast to unveil the lives behind the letters, describing a range of hardships and recreating in his research the hopes and suffering of Depression-era Americans, even as he uncovers the secret life led by the grandfather he thought he knew.

I belong to a quilt group that meet at a local quilt shop which focus has been for the past few years the 1930's. We learn and do patterns that were popular during the 30's, in reproduction fabrics of the 30's. We also have a lesson/talk of something, someone, or some event that happened during the 1930's. So I find myself drawn towards history and stories of that time period. So when I was looking up Christmas stories that were written in or happened during the 30's, I had this one pop up. It is a wonderful story of one mans generously during the deepest depth of the depression. I would recommend this a must read for this Holiday season.

How to Make a Portable Design Wall

I had wanted to get a portable design wall to take to retreats but did not want to pay the price. Looked at various pins on pinterest and took ideas from more than one to come up with my verison. It worked out great and only cost a fraction of the price. The PVC pipes, joints and 2 yards of felt cost under $22.00 My design wall is 4' x 4' which stands approximately 5 1/5' tall. For this size need 2 - 10ft length of 3/4" PVC pipe for the frame and 4ft of 1" PVC pipe for the feet Cut the 3/4" PVC into 4 - 4' section                                                                                       2 - 1' section              Cut the 1"  PVC into 4 - 1' section        ...
