December 1st

Can you believe it... here it is 1st of December. Like the saying goes, time flies. Today I can say time flew by also.
When I went out to let the chickens out I did not see the buzzard  today. I did see him yesterday underneath the barn but not today, I don't know where it was.
One of the things I needed to do today was process the venison  that "the man of the place" had harvest Saturday.

It has been cut up and on ice aging the past 3 days.

I ground up 15 pounds of meat.

That went into the freezer.
Then I made a big batch of chili with a with a couple pounds of it.

I also worked on Farmers Wives 1930 Sampler. Was given 2 month worth to work on.

I would say out of 10 blocks, only two of them you can do without paper piecing.

So needless to say I am getting a lot of practice doing paper piecing.
I was able to get three blocks done today.

Also I was able to finish cutting out all the pieces needed for the rest of the blocks.

I have been using this vellum paper which I like a lot.

Finally after four days of rain and clouds the sun came out this afternoon and it was so nice to go down to the barn and feed the heifers with the sun shining on me.
I looking forward to this week of nice weather.
I can start cleaning up the gardens which should of been done earlier.

  1. I do wonder what happened to the buzzard. Impressive venison, a rare old treat. Great work on the blocks. Take care.

How to Make a Portable Design Wall

I had wanted to get a portable design wall to take to retreats but did not want to pay the price. Looked at various pins on pinterest and took ideas from more than one to come up with my verison. It worked out great and only cost a fraction of the price. The PVC pipes, joints and 2 yards of felt cost under $22.00 My design wall is 4' x 4' which stands approximately 5 1/5' tall. For this size need 2 - 10ft length of 3/4" PVC pipe for the frame and 4ft of 1" PVC pipe for the feet Cut the 3/4" PVC into 4 - 4' section                                                                                       2 - 1' section              Cut the 1"  PVC into 4 - 1' section        ...

Yarn Along 2/20/13 Spoon Pin Doily

It's snowing here and I know some of you are tired of snow but here we will take the moisture any way we can get it. Plus it just gives me a reason to stay in and work on some of my projects. In this picture I'm not sure if you can make it out but in the background there are some wild turkeys that hang around the house sometime, just  chilling This project I'm working on is Spool Pin Doilies.   I had never heard of them before until Bonnie Hunter had mentioned it on her blog . She a had a viewer send her one for her sewing machine along with a pattern. I did not like the pattern but loved the idea so I decided to make up my own version. I wanted a more simple, smaller and fuller doily. So I tried different thread sizes to get one that I like. (From left to right) I tried sock yarn, which I'll redo because I think I like that look. Heavy weight crochet thread, nope too big Bamboo yarn, I like it. Looks good on my Kenmore. Pearl c...

Countdown to Autumn. 18 days

After some thought I came up with a general "get to" list for a pre - Autumn preparation. I had mentioned a couple in the last post. I will keep those and have added a few more. I needed to remind myself that a lot of my ideas are a little premature hance the pre autumn and will be better done next month. So here is what I came up with... Deep cleaning is still on Planning activity for next month Decorating inside and out.   Making a fall outfit, sewing and knitting Find some new recipes to try Make a pair of fall or Halloween socks I will be focus on journaling with Autumn being the present subject.  Making sourdough bread again This one I have already started, Watching a cozy, feel good show. So "the man of the place" and are rewatching PBS All Creatures Great and Small. In a matter of a couple days we have watched season 1. I figure we need to refrain ourselves and keep it down to a couple episodes a night. Today I put a binding on another quilt from the pile. ...
