Let's talk Hand Quilting

I wanted to talk a little about hand quilting. I love to quilt and for some reason I have always gravitated toward quilts that are hand quilted. Do you too. I would  think about all those stitches taken by some women and wonder what was going on in her life while she was stitching. Then think about the love felt while laying under a hand quilted quilt. I am pleased to know I'm not alone, thank goodness there are others with this passion also and who are keeping it vital part of the quilting world. There are two blogs dedicated to hand quilting and the quilters. Caron has two blogs, first one is Michigan Quilts  and the other one that just started celebrate hand quilting . So part of the reason for this post is that I can join in with other hand quilters and share all things hand quilted. I have so many more tops that I has finish then quilts I have quilted, but here are a few I have done. The quilt pictured at the top is the one I'm currently working on. This was la

Apron Pattern #2

I promised another apron and here is my spin on a free pattern for a groovy apron . courtesy of http://www.sew4home.com/ This site where I found this pattern has a very good step by step tutorial. Better than I could do with what I have. But I will be adding in my spin on here. All you need is 1 yard of fabric, being 1/2 yd of one design and 1/2 yd of a coordinate. And 1 dish towel. All the cutting instructions for ties, waistband, hem band and a pattern for the apron are available for you to download , 11 pages total or  6 pages for apron pattern that you'll tape them together. I am going to have to learn how to make my own download file, that way I can post  them for you My spin to this apron is by adding a towel. I have a thing about wiping my hands on my apron/clothes instead of finding the towel. So what is better than putting the two together. APRON/TOWEL Now a regular towel  is a little too long, you will cut the towel 3"longe

Update on Civil War Blocks

Yesterday I was able to do a couple more so it brings my total to 9, whooo-hooo!!! #11 London Square #10 Lincoln's Platform I also had been working on some applique for the 30's clubs quilt.. Next month is the last month for the BOM of the 30's and I will be assembling all the blocks together I have one more that looks the same but is larger and then another to finish appliquing. Then I realize with all that I have been doing that I forgot to give  the conclusion of the snowman quilt and the putting on of the last border. I had full intention of completing it last week but I did not realize the fabric given and the instructions did not correlate until after I had cut the fabric and was assembling it. So that made me short. Not much, but enough where I had to go get some more fabric. I have to wait to finish because my quilt is used at my friends shop for the sample of a BOM offer this year. I'll have to wait to show it after next mon

More Civil War Blocks (spelling?)

Today I was able to spend a little time sewing and completed 3 more blocks. This time I did number and name them. Now if I would just be as productive on my Dear Jane I might be getting somewhere.  #7 Log Cabin #9 Birds in the Air #6 Richmond And guess what, I found another tub af fabric. This one had Jo Morton collections. So this make 7  of the 10 for this week aready done and I have 5 days left to do the remaining 3. Now if I can keep it up I'll be gaining headway quick.  Till next time Kat =^..^=

Baking and Sewing

It has been so windy today that I spent the day inside, so I did some sewing and the baking that I was going to do yesterday. Pam in my stitch group turned me on to King Aurthur Flour and it's where I came across this recipe for the best bread  I have made in awhile. It is so easy and tasty. This bread is made with white flour but I have another using whole wheat that I usually make but I was making this for others who do not eat WW. Besides being easy, it only takes 4 ingredients; flour, salt, yeast and water. Than all you need is a large bowl or a container like this, The recipe will make 3 or 4 loafs (depends on size you want) Oh, the smell of fresh baked bread, life gets no better. I can gain a pound just whiffing it up. So to keep my hands busy, I finally started Barbara Brackman's Civil War blocks. I have only been following her blog since she started it this year. Oh ya I know, your thinking I have had 11 months to be working on them. But it seems

National Corduroy Day

This day has so many recognitions attached to it 11/11/11 U.S. Veteran's Day and National Corduroy Day First and for most Thank a Veteran for their time served to our country. Then I want to show my corduroy quilt. This is a quilt that came from "the of the place" family. Not sure who made it since his mother past away and that is when we received it. There was no label or anything to say who made it. (we need to label our quilts!!!) It is so soft. I'm guessing used and washed many times. I love the simple bar pattern used. Batting is very thick, probably a Poly bat. Tied with red acrylic yarn about every 4". The back is done in flannel, again so soft. The colors are not what I would of expected to see from "the man of the place" family. You see it was a house of men except his mom. I became aware of this day from reading Deb Rowden"s Blog . I just love her blog. And that is where I saw this link. Now
