Day 18: My Christmas Quilts

I said I would show you the Christmas quilts I’ve made over the years.  I never started out to have such a large collections of Christmas quilts but I’m planning on making more to have even a larger collection. I also have a few tops that need to be quilted still and my goal is to get those done next year so we can enjoy them next Christmas.  Well let’s get started…. Scandinavian Christmas by Lynette Anderson  This is a vintage top I bought on eBay, the pattern is from the 30’s product by mountain mist batting. Finished it off by hand quilting  #39 Poinsettia  You can still purchase this pattern Love my Gingerbread man quilt design by Marilyn McSpadden.  It was a Block of the month at Sager Creek in Siloam Springs AR This is an embroidered red work one. Came from a book I believe called Redwork Winter Twitterings One of my favorites next Not sure of the name, I just call it my Snowman quilt  this one was also design by Marylyn McSpadden This qui...

Sewing is a Stress reliever

It has been a stressful week in a few ways. Not just what happenings here in the States and in Spain. My mom was admitted into the hospital for a couple days. She was able to go home this afternoon and will need to still do a little recovering. Then it has been raining a little pretty much each day so far this week, we have received 3 inches this week. That is what we normally get in the whole month of August, we can add what we had the part of the month. But I loved the change. Was able to finish putting on the border to " Let it Snow Again" Finished out to be 67" x 67" I did go with a thin 1" border of some leftover fabric that was used in the strip sets, with a 6 1/2" border. Such beautiful fabric, made a pretty quilt top. Hadn't done any more on Dreamy Hexagon because I had left it at my mom's went I took her to the ER Tuesday morning. I'll pick it when I go over there tomorrow. So I started...

This and That

Today was a lot like most days lately, a little of this and that but today I was able to get in a little bit of sewing.  Did some prepping and cutting on the the last few blocks of Farmers Wife 1930's Sampler. I will ready for this quilt to be finished seeing how it's over a year and half. Decided on a setting I'll use, will be different than the book thou. I realize I didn't take new pictures of the Poinsettia quilt I mentioned yesterday. So here are couple new ones, with the help of Pete. You can see the stain very clearly in this picture. We have been having above normal temps now so I thought I would take advantage of it and do some overdue cleaning up of the lawn. I like to mow up all the fallen leaves and give it it's last mow but with company coming I focused more on the house and not the yard. It will look so nice when done and less of a fire hazard. It's getting close to the last of the y...

What's Up 12.26.16

Here it is the last week of December and all I can show is the Poinsettia quilt that I finished the binding on. Now it needs to get washed and hopefully the stains can be removed.  Being that it's an old quilt and stains are ones of age and not a substance. Little nervous because of all the red fabric but we'll give it a try. Want show what I'm excited about and that is my gift that will help me with future quilts. That is my cutter. Haven't gotten to use it yet but I do have plans.

What's Up 10.17.16

on the design wall is the same as it has been for the past couple of weeks, Words to Live By. I didn't do a thing on it today other than prep a section to sew. What I did do is trimmed 3 quilts for binding. My mind is on Christmas already. You see my daughters and their families will be here for the holidays. First time in ages, and being that is been a while I have to find the decorations. I haven't decorated in years and not sure if all will be fine. They have been stored in the crawl space above the garage and hope to get them down this weekend. Decided to start with the gingerbread quilt, have the strips cut  just need to press and attach. But before I can do that I needed to finish the last block of next months Farmers Wife Another paper pieced block, #97 Tracy. Using freezer paper this time all is going well except I did not receive enough of the dark purple print to finish it. I'll get tomorrow when I go to the ...

June Binding Blitz Quilt

I like what Julie is doing on her blog, encourages me to put bindings on a small pile of quilts I have in the spare bedroom.  This quilt was  a round robin I was very lucky to be part of and it was because I'm friends with Pam who owns Sager Creek Quilt shop. And she is a close friend to the others who were part of the group. All very talented designers, published quilters.  Talk about being out of my league, at least that's the way I felt but by the end of this robin, I felt better about my own skills. Still not near theirs tho. The other round robin members were; Pam Goggan Elsie Campbell Donna Lynn Thomas Marilyn McSpadden Talk about a lot of talent. Thank you ladies Well back to my quilt Pam Goggans did the quilting and it is spectacular I had fun playing around with the special effects on the photos This picture is my representation of Christmas in July I hope the info I shared on Sunday helped. I know the techn...
